Maerchen Maedchen

Hazuki Kagimura is a normal girl who is usually alone. Her relationship with her new family is not going so well, so she retreats every day to the world of stories and books. One day, after school, one of the library's bookshelves sends her to another world with a magic school, where she meets Shizuka Tsuchimikado. She finds out that girls (called "mädchen") who attend the school are selected by old fairy tales and folk stories to wield their magic, and are taught how to wield it in the school. The school has girls who are chosen by such stories as Kaguya-hime no Monogatari, Issun-bōshi, Der Freischütz, Shuten-dōji, The Little Matchstick Girl, The Gigantic Turnip, Arthurian legends, and The Ramayana. Hazuki herself is chosen by the Cinderella story. She begins her new life at the school to become a magic user, and be friends with Shizuka.

Giving this a low score due to the choice by the company to drop this, leaving it incomplete, rather than air the last 2 episodes. Failure to see something through and leaving something hanging shows lack of respect to their viewers, so they don't deserve any back. You can more or less guess how things will end, but it got cut off at the main event of the story which negates the whole purpose, leaving not a whole lot of reason to actually watch it. Will be updated if 11/12 are ever added. The title is German for Fairytail Girls. There are a few other German words and it does draw in on some German things, however they butchered the pronounciation which raises the question of why even use German. It would only take a minute or two to learn how to say the words reasonably. The fairytale aspect appears in the form of special books that give special abilities to the girl that are based off stuff like Cinderella, The Little Matchstick Girl, and so on. As someone that loves Fairytales, this is actually cool to see. There is a cultural aspect to the overall story. Schools from different countries compete in something like duels in order to win the special event, that is ultimately the point of the story (and where it never finishes). The cultural representation comes off as being on the stereotypical end. With the story not being completed, what you are left with for viewing are a few funny moments, lots of cute girls, and a girl who in the first several episodes, ends up naked (some of these scenes being quite funny actually). From watching the first several episodes, it's hard to make out exactly what the purpose is to begin with, as it seems to be about friendship and drama. The better stuff comes later with the whole tournament aspect where the fighting and magic take place. Overall, I was actually enjoying it around a 6.5/10 range. It was decent and for someone that enjoys Fairytales, it had it's enjoyable bits seeing the costumes, lore, and magical abilities combined with what was usually a cute girl. You can tell the quality and effort was on the lower end though. The neglect to finish the last 2 episodes off though, leaving the story aspect hanging, is disrespectful to their viewers and can't be overseen however. I would not recommend it due to the unifinished story, unless you just want to see lots of girls & Fairytale inspired aspects with some magic.

Would you be surprised if I told you this dumpster fire was axed? That's right no more episodes coming, but trust me when I say "Good riddance". My advice: Please skip this one, if the makers did then so should the audience. But do Google for pic's and gif's, especially from episode 9 and 10 to see some of the worst animation in quite some time. THE DRAMA IS REAL!!! STORY, or rather some interesting (or not) observations: Kusoki is a god, rules and regulaions don't apply. She can rewrite a Origin story and create new magic, how? We'll never know. Oh and later Shizuka also becomes a god when suddenly she can also rewrite her Origin story. If she has "story syndrome", why isn't she carrying books with her? It's mentioned many times Cinderella is one of the strongest books, but it's never explained why and how do they measure a books strength How were the Stains formed? Where do they come from? Kusoki is quoted being from the other side, implying that the other students are not, but later it's revealed that the teams are from real world countries, wtf is going on here?! Animation gets atrocious further down the series, episodes 9 and 10 are exceptionally bad. Unfitting music, exciting music when nothing exciting happens etc. Is it just me, or did some of the characters get new voice actors later on? Inconsistent characters that make no sense, often appearing out of no where and sometimes being in places they shouldn't be allowed into. Has the author ever met real people? Has the author ever been to an actual library?
