Both anime give off a similar vibe; that disturbing, wrong, underlying horror that some of these types of anime completely miss and lose out on, instead of going for the subtle approach. The key to successful horror is the stark contrast of what the story seems to be and the twisted and intricately horrifying reveal of what it actually is. These anime share this particular attribute.

At it's core, Magmel feels like the 'Great Value' edition of Made in Abyss where it attempts to emulate a similar exploratory, ominous, and often oppressive atmosphere - usually falling bery flat in the process. If you enjoy Magmel, you will likely enjoy MIA. If you simply want more of the locational horror and mystery from MIA while we wait for a second season, Magmel could likely help to satiate your appetite for a while.

It would probably feel like an alcoholic drinking some mouthwash just for that little kick.

Both very touching stories. Excitement, embarrassment, great story, getting in touch with a loved one, beating through problems and true friends with a little love.

Both are really dramatic and take place in a magical world. The difference is that made in abyss has an actual plot while mahoutsukai no yome focuses more in character development (evey single one). If you watched made in abyss and felt disappointed because the magical world wasn't explained much, I think you will like mahoutsukai no yome.

Both shows have protagonists searching for a lost parent who left a message leading to their location and a companion that is supposed to lead them through their journey. Both shows revolve around the journey the protagonists take in order to meet up with their lost parent and involve fantasy elements in their storyline.

A Place Further Than the Universe

A Place Further Than the Universe

Scenery that we have never seen. Sounds that we have never heard. Scent that we have never smelled. Food that we have never tasted. And the surge of emotion that we have never experienced. This is the expedition of recollecting the pieces torn apart and sensation left alone. When we reach that place, what will we think? Howling, 40 degree angle. Raging, 50 degree angle. Shouting, 60 degree angle. A wilderness beyond the heavy sea. The furthest south, far from civilization. At the top of the Earth. We will find lights through the girls' eyes to live tomorrow.

Same concept but on an inverse way if I could say, on Tower of God, the objective is to go up. On Made in Abyss is go to the bottom.

Two overpowered main characters who have lost their memories.

Not completely the same, but in some parts, it reminded me of Danmachi. Fighting against beasts. Abyss looked similar to Dungeon. The main characters looked similar. Both the animes are great and worth watching.
