Both of these anime are centered in a school, focusing mainly on comedy and parody. Each of these anime lean heavily upon references to other anime to create the comedy they employ.

AntiMemer AntiMemer says...

Lucky Star and Ichizon both are random animes. They are very humorous even if you don't know what they are referencing to. The anime are both full of moe as well. The theme of a school is also present within the anime. The comedy themes are also similar due to the randomness. Also, the stories center around school life. These are both great animes that are recommended for eachother.

TheQi2B TheQi2B says...

Random Parody Power! That would sum up either anime in 3 words.  If you like the humour style of one i guarantee you, you will like the sense of humour in the other.

While SnI makes references in rapid fire to more recent stuff- Lucky Star's  parodies tend to last longer and are of a more timeless nature. 'timotei' ftw!

Watch either for a great laugh!

chii chii says...

Both anime are filled with parody, students doing their own thing, and completely random ideas. I found lucky star to be much better but not by much. I'd suggest watching either if you liked the other though.

Konakaga Konakaga says...

As others have said both are parody based comedies that focus on cast of cute girls mostly, if you like one of the two series, I really suggest you try the other since their somewhat similiar, and you'll probably enjoy the other.

FrozenCorgi FrozenCorgi says...

Two sides of the same coin!

If you found one hilarious, then you're highly likely to find the other one just as great. Both series are packed with references to various other series and japanese otaku culture. They both live and breathe on the comedy, and Seitokai even has the token obligatory fanservice, though I would hardly call it an Ecchi series.

If you liked one, you definately want to check out the other!

mikupinku mikupinku says...

Both anime develop in the school and have comedy and anime's parodies. If you want to know "How is your level of OTAKU?" you must watch these anime

Both Seitokai no Ichizon and Lucky Star have a combination of a genre of comedy and parody.

Best of all, both of those 2 anime shows are completely random like a sit-com.

Takeya Takeya says...

Both series are slices of life about the life of four high school students. They don't have main plot - it's ordinary school life - talking about "problems" and spending time on silly things. Even if A Channel is not that good as Lucky Star, you can spend a good time waiting for LS2 :)

Aro Aro says...

Both Lucky star and A channel are slow placed, slice of life comedies about four high school girls. Even the stereotypes are the same. Both of them are relatively enjoyable sunday munches where the comedic aspect lies in amusement as opposed to hilarity that centers on the banter dialogue amongst the characters.  Both are also in chibi style art that's cute to watch on its own terms. If you like one, the other is a chip of the same block.

Kisaragi Kisaragi says...

Both series are based on yonkoma gag manga and have 4 cute girls do random stuff. Both have a similar high-school setting, are moe-heavy and lack a serious plot. Also, Run from A-Chanel has the same seiyuu as Tsukasa from Lucky Star.

If you like one, check out the other. If not, stay away.

Suimin Suimin says...

A Channel and Lucky Star are both school life comedies that center around a group of girls. They both contain yuri elements, and are animated in a chibi art style.

eaper eaper says...

These series are each gag heavy, moe heavy, and plot light. Neither of them have much in terms of depth, but, if you like all the cute characters doing... nothing in one series, you should give the other a try. Lucky Star is a lot more parody heavy than the other, though.

vernanonix vernanonix says...

Both Lucky Star and A-Channel have those kind of episodes that seem to only barely be able to hold a plot together for the duration of said episode. They may seem like just skits and the stroy telling can be quite shallow. But they have their moments and both are great for laughs. Both are school life comedies about a group of female friends.

Sayonara, Zetsubou-Sensei

Sayonara, Zetsubou-Sensei

Life is simply not worth living for down and out school teacher Itoshiki Nozomu. He has no hope of progress, no prospect of promotion, no chance at happiness… he is in despair! Even his name spells 'zetsubou' – 'despair', when compressed. But when the time comes to end it all, Itoshiki's attempted suicide on the first day of the new school year is foiled by relentlessly positive Fuura Kafuka. This saves Itoshiki long enough to meet his new class, and the quirky range of students under his care. Will Itoshiki Nozomu depress his students with his anguish? Or will Fuura show Zetsubou-sensei the joys of life and hope?

One of the recent fads in anime is the production of anime layered with innumerable in-jokes, tailored to appeal to the fans. This sort of fanservice has always been around, but a swath of anime from the last few years shows extreme tendencies in this regard.

From the ubiquitous "in-joke" blackboard writings to the constant verbal references, Lucky Star and Sayonara Zetsubou Sensei anime practically require a college-level course in Japanese popular culture and anime to grasp all the jokes. But if one of these appeals to you, then it's likely that you'll enjoy the other, as well.

ColdMero ColdMero says...

If you liked either Lucky Star or Sayonara Zetsubou Sensei, I'm sure you'd like the other. They both have a lot of otaku jokes and references that are hilarious. Lucky Star and Sayonara Zetsubou Sensei are both set in a school environment. They are also similar in the way that they are both very laid back and don't necessarily need to be seen in any order. They are both great otaku comedy anime series.

liquidhell liquidhell says...

The appeal of both these series is undoubtedly the humour conjured out of sheer randomness and what should be the most unimportant aspects of life brought into the limelight. Where Lucky Star uses a lighthearted, more 'child-like' approach to the everyday questions in life, Zetsubou Sensei takes a much more cynical and self-deprecating path, but to the same high level of hilarious entertainment. Both series have a cast of high school girls, all with their own quirks and behavioural irregularities, and these are often used cleverly as the butt behind jokes. The lack of a strong story arc lends a free and easygoing feel to both series, which will provide hours of enjoyment to those looking for quick humourous amusement without feeling tied down by a more plot-oriented comedy.

JAhU JAhU says...

Lucky Star and Sayonara Zetsubou Sensei have a number of similar characters. The style of jokes is also quite similar, but ZSZ is much more hardcore (for instance, they put some yuri in opening). Still if you liked one of those shows, then the other should entertain you as well.

P.S. Its also a good idea to watch the sequel Zoku Sayonara Zetsubou Sensei, which is somehow better then the first season.

TotallyLovable TotallyLovable says...

Great humour which, unfortunately, is brought only to the chosen ones, who have watched either Lucky Star, or Sayonara Zetsubou Sensei. Both shows take place mainly in the school grounds and have many similarities in the use of jokes. Also, the characters in both anime are strange and are not the typical ones you can expect from the average school related series. While Konata in Lucky Star is presented as a hardcore otaku with questionable morals, Itoshiki Nozomu from Sayonara Zetsubou Sensei has somehow weird understanding of very much ordinary things. Well, one's for sure - you won't get bored while watching either os these series!

Lucky Star and Hidamari Sketch definitely have the same style in comedy and character personalities. They're very subtle in the art, and events are not dramatic at all. Both anime are about a select number of girls growing up, and their take on life. These two titles are fun in a "perky" sense, and they both have energetic openings.

kenikki kenikki says...

Lucky Star is really slowpaced compared to most other anime in this style and while the artstyle in Hidamari is pretty wild and fast, the anime itself is still pretty slowpaced like Lucky Star.

Which is why I think that if you liked one of these two schoolgirl slice-of-life comedy anime, you should try the other.

Fans of either Hidamari Sketch or Lucky star will likely enjoy the other.  Both anime feature stories centering around the day-to-day lives of a group of school-age girls.  Both do well at making routine, everyday situations (and the character's reactions to them) entertaining by presenting them in a humorous way that the viewer can identify with.  They are also both visually stunning, but in different ways.

GA: Geijutsuka Art Design Class

GA: Geijutsuka Art Design Class

The students of the Geijutsuka Art Design Class study all the various fields of art, from sketching and painting to graphic design and photography. While the mischievous Noda is always thinking up new ways to have fun with her partner in crime - tomboy Tomokane - the ditzy Kisaragi is content with doodling cats in her sketchbook. With Namiko attempting (and failing) to keep the energetic duo in line, the quiet and mysterious Kyoujyu seems happy to observe the odd behavior of her classmates. Whether they are transforming a congealed lump of paint into a sculpture of a pudding, playing ‘color tag’, or making thought collages, the gang live their life to the max through both their friendships and their art.

Both Lucky Star and GA, have a very cutesy sort of feel to them. Add to that the comedy and that both series are about very little indeed, then If you liked one of these series, it might be worth your while checking out the other.

Kari5 Kari5 says...

Both of these are very random slice of life anime with an almost all female cast. Each episode usually jumps between several small stories randomly thrown together.

Omurqi Omurqi says...

GA and Lucky Star are both light and randomly funny Slice of Life shows. Both have their own way of bringing the comedy (GA through art, Lucky Star through parodies), but are in the end about the same thing: a group of girls having fun in their everyday school life. I'd advice neither show for marathoning, but they're excellent for your everyday dose of Slice of Life comedy.

chii chii says...

Both shows are about kids doing what kids do best in school. Goofing off and trying to make the best of school life with weird and wacky characters. GA takes a look at an art school childs learning experiences where Lucky Star there doesn't seem to be one single thing they focus on but making the viewer laugh. If you liked one check out the other.

AirCommodore AirCommodore says...

GA and Lucky Star have identical pacing. They'll start off talking about one thing, then switch somehow, again and again, until you have no idea how the current subject came up. It's pretty entertaining, actually. Both also have more characters than most slice-of-life series (which generally have exactly four schoolgirls), and jump around between different groups of people.

They are also more focused in terms of subject matter than most slice-of-lifes. They don't just follow around some people, regardless of what they're doing. GA is all about art, while the jokes in Lucky Star are focused mainly on general geekery.

You just couldn't get enough of the cuteness of Lucky Star, could you? I will admit, it was so cute and adorable how they took the smallest things and turned them into something outrageous and wonderful. If you're looking for some 'seeing is believing' action in a cutesy anime like Lucky Star, but focused more on girls growing up, then Bottle Fairy would suit you.

Bottle Fairy has an even higher cuteness factor than Lucky Star, but they are otherwise very similar to each other. Both have a great deal of humor and provide a good view of Japanese lifestyles. Both anime are definitely worth watching!

JAhU JAhU says...

Welcome to the NHK! is different than Lucky Star when it comes to style, but it is about problems existing in modern Japan. Not to mention that these problems are shown in both series. Lucky Star makes fun of them, while NHK is more serious and dramatic (some scenes look like comedy, but you may not feel like laughing).

freakzilla freakzilla says...

Lucky Star is a pure blooded comedy, while Welcome to the NHK is actually half-comedic, and half-serious. However, both anime provide excellent laughs with tons of references to other anime, games, and habits of mainly otaku Japanese people.

eaper eaper says...

Both of these shows focus around a piece of Japanese culture that someone just beginning to watch anime (if they aren't familiar with Japanese culture) would likely not understand completely. Although both of these series contain a lot of comedy, Lucky Star would be the lighter of the two.

Qplayer Qplayer says...

At first glance Lucky Star and Welcome to the NHK may seem like polar opposites. One is a lighthearted comedic parody while the other is a relatively dark satire. However, the similarity is its attempt to convey the inner workings of the complex world of otaku culture. These animes should be watched as a pair so that one sees both the "light" and "dark" side of the culture many of us hold dear.

I'd recommend this not just because it's made by the same company but because both animes are "slices of life" and both feature small hints of other animes, such as where in Lucky Star where the main character Konata dresses up as Haruhi Suzumiya and performs, along with the other characters who also dress up as characters from The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya.

Either way, both are excellent animes and I'd definitely recommend to watch either one after the other.

yelizaveritas yelizaveritas says...

Two animes created by one studio and two main characters - Konata and Haruhi - have the same seiyuu.

Also they're both are comedies (and kinda funny) and about high school students. And I have to admit, that they connect with each other - Konata is a big fan of Haruhi. Plus they have similar humor.

So It's the reasons why you would like both 'Lucky Star' and 'Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya'

bzeimen bzeimen says...

While the shows aren't exactly similar, both share a few qualities that definitely enhance the experience of watching both.Lucky Star is a much more comedic anime, and has great pace and timing. Lucky Star is full of references to other anime, from Kanon to The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzimiya and tons of others inbetween. Watching these other shows definetly enhances what the audience will get from Lucky Star, but similarly, watching Lucky Star will enhance those other anime as well! That said, The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzimiya isn't to be taken as lightly as Lucky Star. It's a more serious show with more serious moments in it. Similarly, don't take Lucky Star as serious as you might Melancholy. They're different shows in different genres after all. They're just really good together.

mil89er mil89er says...

Both stories are about a girl and her high school life, each story uses about the same level of comedy and if you like one, you'll probably like the other. What I mean is that these shows are very similar and if you're into this kind of anime you'll most likely like both shows (lucky star) or (melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya) but, if you dont you'll probably hate and possible resent both anime (shows).

Both Lucky Star and Seitokai Yakuindomo are life parodies about high school life. Lucky Star involves only girls and goes more in-depth into the personal life of the characters where Seitokai Yakuindomo I based almost exclusively on the school life of the student council.

They are both fantastic comedies with a little ecchi thrown in the mix (more like sexual content in Seitokai Yakuindomo)

Just be warned that Seitokai Yakuindomo is very much based around sexual jokes and awkward misunderstandings.
