Log Horizon takes place in an MMORPG, while Ragnarok is simply based on an MMORPG (and has the strong feel of one), but both will definitely appeal to the same type of fan. Each has different classes (mages, healers, etc), plenty of monsters, and other various stuff that you can easily find in such a game. Ragnarok doesn't have the whole 'stuck and can't get out of a game' element, but the tones are very similar.

Tower of Druaga: the Aegis of Uruk

Tower of Druaga: the Aegis of Uruk

In the kingdom of Urak, the tower of Druaga is a source of fear and death; it is the cause of disease and monster attacks, and climbing it is impossible given the ferocity of the monsters within – until now. It is the Summer of Anu, a period that occurs once every five years during which the monsters are weakened. Jil, a guardian, is one adventurer whose goal is to reach the top level and slay the tower’s creator, the demon Druaga, and finally bring peace to Uruk with the help of a powerful artifact found within. However, Jil and his friends aren’t the only ones who aim for the top; it’s a race to the finish!

Tower of Druaga, like Log Horizon, has a healthy mix of fantasy adventuring, comedy, and battles in an RPG-like (or flat out RPG) setting. Tower of Druaga leans a little more on the comedy side of things of the pair, but both will appeal to the same audience for sure.

Outside of the fantasy element in both of these shows, there is something else that they both share that is not fantasy. For Scrapped Princess it is a bit of a mystery, for Log horizon it is the game aspect.

If you enjoyed one you might like the other.

Slayers

Slayers

When she meets Gourry, a swordsman whose skill with the blade is rivaled only by his stupidity, Zelgadis, a grumpy sorceror who's been turned into a golem, and Rezo, a priest known for his benevolence (with a dark secret), you know her adventures are just beginning!

Comedy and Fantasy, are you kidding me?

No I am not. Are you looking for some lighter, comical fantasy tales? Do you enjoy the moments in Log horizon where they divulge in a humorous moment, but then spike it with action?

Then give Slayers a try. Mind that Slayers is set in a fantasy land and Log-H is in a virtual world that is fantasy.

If you like anime with a high fantasy setting with swords and sorcery then try these titles. Both these titles have a strong theme of political intrigue, unique world building mixed with some action and a strong dose of comedy.

The obvious difference is Log Horizon is about a group of characters stuck in an MMO, but the characters aren't trying to escape the game, but instead trying to make the best of the new world. In Log there's a lot of talk about MMO mechanics, but once you reach a certain point in the series, it becomes a lot less about MMO mechanics and more about the fantasy setting.

Legend of the Legandary Heroes is a much more typical fantasy set up about warring kingdoms and has a more serious tone.

However, both shows do have a strong element of comedy. They both include a lot of politicing and intrigue. They both have magic, ridiculous swords and armor and just enough action to keep you satisfied through all the talking.

High Fantasy isn't a very common setting in anime, so if you're looking for it then try either of these titles.

Utawarerumono

Though his courage, skill, and wisdom quickly gain him the villagers’ respect, the same traits soon land him in hot water with the local feudal lord. Not one to back away from injustice, the path he must follow will lead him to confront his enemies, and his hidden past.

While Log Horizon is based on a game as a plot point and Utawarerumono is based on a game's story, both have more in common than other common links like Sword Art Online and .hack.

In both these series, the main character is a leader first and a warrior second. While strong, the core of both series is not just the individual battles, but also on the development of community and a nation, as well as how that nation deals with those around it. Both have deep political explorations in a fantasy realm. If you like Game of Thrones (with less bloody carnage), you'll like both of these.

In both of these anime, the main characters are stuck inside a game like scnenario. The plots are very similar and if you liked one, I would suggest watching the other.

Both are set in a different world with fairy tale being set in a different universe entirely and log horizon being set inside a game.

both animes make great use of their characters and each of them has their own personality and strong lead protagonists, which both have a side which you'd probably not want to be on.

Both shows are an easygoing story that describe people trying to figure out how a totally different world works. Very similar in pace and humor and characters have very similar types of quirks and charms.

.hack//SIGN

In a massive online world, people act only as well as their conscience demands. When one player's punishment is to be trapped in this world, a disparate group of people seek the answers why. Their motives are varied; their methods even more so. What stands between when we tear down the walls of reality? Where does our soul end and we begin?

SeprithLiCastia SeprithLiCastia says...

Both shows have a similar theme: characters inside a massively multiplayer online game. If that alone is not enough for you, both shows are very heavily dialogue based and characcter driven with focus on the "how" of anything going on.

Key differences come in the execution: .Hack//Sign focuses on its own story while Log Horizon focuses, at first, on the machanics of the game it is set. Many of the characters are also fairly similar in overall purpose and that makes it easy to go from one to the other. Both are fine shows for someone wanting to see that "life in a game" done in different ways with similar tone and intentions.

However, be warned: if you are going into either expecting an action thriller, you are not likely to enjoy them.
