Tomoya Okazaki is a third-year high school student who is generally bored with life and doesn't take his studies, future, or anything else seriously. One day, however, he meets a lonely-looking girl in the school courtyard, Nagisa Furukawa. She explains to him the source of her loneliness: she had missed a lot of the previous school year and thus is repeating her third year; everybody that she knew has already graduated, and she is lonely. Tomoya is rather indifferent at first, but decides that he has nothing better to do and spends increasingly more time helping Nagisa restore the school drama club. As his relationship with Nagisa grows, Tomoya begins to open up to various other people around the school as well...

Reasons you might like Clannad...

Sev229 Sev229 says...

Clannad and Little Busters! are both visual novels created by Key, so right away fans will notice the similarity of both series. While Clannad focuses more on the concept of family and love, Little Busters! is more about friendship and the innocence of discovering first love. Both have emotional and touching stories which constantly take you on a fantastic roller coaster of laughter and tears. In the end, both are beautiful stories that should not be passed up.

DuckPhlegm DuckPhlegm says...

Little busters is very much like Clannad. Both anime show a story about a group of friends trying to recruit more people (in Clannad it was drama club, in little busters the baseball team) and the plot shows the main protagonist going through each of the girls past in a dramatic way before recruiting them and going back to the original comedic format.

Nanamy Nanamy says...

Both are created by Key so the story of the characters are similar with painfull and lonely pasts making you cry sometimes, both deal with the importance of the family and friendship in our lives, the feels are too much, the storys are very heart worming.

Rifunger Rifunger says...

This anime takes the priority in character development and got kinda like dramatic-nostalgia feels. It is also very sad like Clannad and Clannad ~Afters Story~ and also very funny. You will definitely enjoy this anime. A must watch for Key and Clannad fans.

Clannad After Story

Clannad After Story

Summer break is now over; the second semester has started for Tomoya, Nagisa and the others, and little has changed. Since Tomoya's relationship with his father is still troubled, he continues to live with Nagisa and her family, even if it means getting roped into organizing a baseball team for the family bakery. Life at school continues as normal with Sunohara as carefree as ever; however, when his sister Mei voices her concerns about him, the series of events that follow place a strain on Sunohara and Tomoya’s friendship. Whether it's saving a person from themselves or passing on a message from the past, one thing’s for sure: no matter how tough things get, good friends will always be there to help out.

Reasons you might like Clannad After Story...

Sev229 Sev229 says...

Since Clannad ~After Story~ is merely a continuation of the story in the anime adaptation, everything I said before about the first season still applies to After Story. However, it is within After Story of Clannad that the real potential of the series is brought to life. It will also be this way within the Refrain arc of Little Busters! later on within the series. Visual novel wise, both After Story and Refrain are continuations of the main heroine's stories (Nagisa in Clannad and Rin in Little Busters!) and they wrap up the plot of each series within a whole. Each have a stunning and beautiful ending.

Hierophant Hierophant says...

Little Busters! and Clannad (the whole series) bear a lot in common with each other. In the first place they were both based off VNs which were done by the same company and the creative mind which brought Clannad about was the same that brought about Little Busters! The animation is a bit different between the two, but that's not really a big issue. The music is done by the some composer (Jun Maeda) which is excellent. Both are highly emotional and have supernatural undertones and occurences which are roughly the same in function and tone in both series. The big difference is that whereas Clannad focuses a little more on romance, Little Busters! focuses more on friendship, which is actually a little refreshing. If you like one, DEFINITELY try the other.

Made by the same people, Little Busters and Clannad are both set in a school and also follow the story line of trying to get people to join a club/team (Drama club and Baseball team) Each include an emotional rollercoaster and tons of loveable characters.

Reasons you might like Angel Beats!...

Sev229 Sev229 says...

Angel Beats! was created by Jun Maeda, one of the people who worked on Little Busters! and other visual novels by KEY (Clannad, AIR, Kanon). Angel Beats! explores the meaning of life while Little Busters! focuses more on the strength of friendship While Angel Beats! serves to be much shorter than the other series listed, it still captures the importance in one's life and explores in-depth character development present in all of KEY's works, notably Little Busters! where it remains a hidden theme within the story. Both series eventually explore the meaning of life and death and what it means to sacrifice for those you care about.

snivets snivets says...

The characters and character design in Little Busters immediately reminded me of Angel Beats, as well as similar themes of memory loss, building friendships, learning to deal with traumatic pasts, and contrasts between past and present realities. This recommendation is more of a gut feeling than anything else, but fans of either show should give the other a try.

shikikywketsuki shikikywketsuki says...

ok, someone quite recently asked me to name an anime just like angel beats, first thing I think of is little busters puting the fact that they are both by key aside. they are both very sweet and cute with a underlinning depressing romance story line. As well as both taking place in a "school" situation, these both have similar characters and themes. So as far as anime's go these two animes are very similar and I cant recommend these more!! and why there isnt that many people making this connection I dont know?

Shaward Shaward says...

Even if the basic plot is quite different, there are few themes in common and a dramatic-romance underline

This recommendation probably won't much sense for those watching the Little Busters! anime until it reaches its conclusion, or unless you've played the visual novel. But, both series focus on the importance of friendship and the process of moving forward after the death of someone you care about. Each series has its ups and downs, but in the end they'll be jerking tears from your eyes. How do I say this... upon experiencing both series, it felt as if a hand had reached deep down into my heart and tugged it around a bit, but it wasn't an unpleasant feeling. In fact, I rather enjoyed it. Not very many stories can do that to you, but these two will.

Takafumi Takafumi says...

Little Busters and St. Luminous don't appear to be all that similar at first glance. Admittedly they both take place in schools and both have a mystery element, however they are very different synopses with very different characters. You wouldn't notice a similarity if you only watched 6 episodes of each. Nevertheless there is a deeper similarity to both. This similarity comes from moral and motif; a belief that a wish can do powerful things. Both of these shows tread the same path, cover the same ground, and present the same type of imagery, ultimately reaching seperate conclusions. In a way, they're the same show, but created with very different mindsets.
