Minori is an illness-stricken, constantly bullied orphan. After one rainy day, she doesn't turn up at school, having been admitted into a hospital in a distant town. Two months pass, and the girl's two school friends, Takashi and Kyouko, receive a mysterious email with no sender listed. The email reveals a summer festival taking place at a nearby town.
I'm sorry, but this isn't actually worth watching. It's made up of 12 eight-minute episodes. The story is about Minori, a bullied girl, who also happens to be sick, orphaned and friendless. I guess they didn't make her maimed or blind as well, because she's already affected by a nameless - but undoutedly serious and life-threatening - disease. Her classmates, fearing to become the targets of the bullies themselves, don't have the courage to intervene and just watch as she is mercilessly harassed. Two of them in particular, out of guilt, try to get close to her, but obviously secretly and always out of sight of the other classmates. The plot doesn't sound too bad, but really it's how the whole thing is narrated that leaves a lot to be desired: I found a lot of unnecessary repetitions, superficial feelings, nonsensical reactions and illogical statements. Too many contradictions in such a short anime. And believe me, the eight minute episodes ended up feeling too long for me. Another thing I didn't like because it made me feel more than a little uneasy is how the whole thing plays too much on the viewer's emotions. It's a kind of emotional pornograhy, hyperbolized situations intended exclusively to stimulate the viewer's emotional response. I see no artistic value in this, I'm sorry. The animation is also terrible.
