Kuragehime: Soreike! Amars Tankentai is a difficult anime for a Western viewer to watch, as it is based on a series of Japanese societal gags, necessitating cultural note popups to be read at the top of the screen simultaneous to subtitles appearing at the bottom of the screen. The story is a continuing string of very short episodes featuring the Nunz (Sisterhood) characters from the original anime out walking in various nature settings (primarily a forest) collecting verbal clues to lead them to a final destination. Animation is a much lowered quality as compared to main anime - extremely washed out colors, and less fluid animation. Soundtrack is barely there, serviceable and unremarkable in every way. The characters are lifted directly from the main anime and there is no development or surprises that we learn in this journey. The entire point is basically a Japanese verbal gag, using the Kuragehime characters to set it up. There is no story above and beyond the joke; this adds nothing to our knowledge of these people nor what has happened in their lives. A bit of adjunctal fluff, truly skippable except to completists who want to see everything related to Kuragehime. Posting this review as part of my 2013 Anime Planet Secret Santa participation.
