Cute, heartwarming, and some sad moments Kotaro lives alone is a great watch for anyone who wants to feel jealous as well as sad towards the young kindergardner who lives by himself in apartment 203.  The animation is simplistic and with the animation with the anime tonosaman which bears resemblance to Doraemon but human like. We also get to Kotaro's neighbors like unsuccessful manga artist Shin Karino, thug with a kind soul Isamu Tamaru, and the hostess club girl Mizuki Akimoto who has a boyfriend who lives off her money. However the comedy about this is that Kotaro seems more mature than everyone as they all have their own vices whether it be alcoholism, divorce/estrangement from family, or not focusing on anything except an upcoming deadline.  The show is nicely organized mixing comedic moments to the sad ones, with those later moments are mainly being about Kotaro's living situation and the things children his age experience. I also want to express how impressed I am about Kotaro's Voice actor and how he had perfect timing and how his voice encapsulated the "wise beyond his age" child. All these people have a part in Kotaros life whether it be him wisecracking about lying, helping Kotaro get through nightmares, the cancellation of his favorite show, injuries, or picking Kotaro up from school. But what I enjoy most is how each episode places several mini storylines to broaden the cast so we get to see more hijinks and emotions.

Amazing anime carrying difficult topics many struggles to overcome. I cried so much since Kotaro didn't deserve that much pain. I wish the neighboor at room 202 could adopt him or something. TT  The depths of the characters is really good and makes you feel sympathy for them.  It's a really wholesome anime, loved it all the way through. Hope Kotaro will grow up to be a fine man. :))) (i know its just an anime, leave me be).

The concept behind the plot was a bit too outlandish and took me out of the scenes at times. There is a satirical aspect to this show that makes it relie so heavily on the fact that its narator is a too mature 4 year old boy. While this makes the show just that more gut wrenching the perspective can be jarring at times. That's the biggest problem with this show, it blurs the lines between when you should and shouldn't suspend you belief. However what they don't have in concept they more then make up in execution. Its heartwarming, entertaining, and sad all at once. I really enjoyed watching. It was emotionally exhausting is a good way.
