STORY -- 5/10

The story wasn't that bad, but it wasn't that good. It actually grew on me towards the end with them defeating Verdia and the haunted house episode, but then I skipped the one about the succubuses because I didn't have the energy to watch a bunch of phallic visual gags and then I was at the end, which was pretty tired.

Seems like most of the budget went into art, because I don't think anyone knew what to do beyond that. This is a classic example of "get a real plot down before you start production". Comedy isn't really an excuse. Keijo was way way more over-the-top than this and it had a better story. Make it episodic or give it a good plot. Don't go in the middle. It never works well. Just commit to something, you know? People will notice the confidence. At least then you'll have done something noteworthy, even if it sucks.

It wasn't awful. There were some moments that had more energy. But the majority of it felt lazy.

ART/ANIMATION -- 7/10

The art was actually really good. Lots of creative prop pieces like the point cards and the quest requests. The spell animatics fit each type of magic well.

Backgrounds were never boring. Definitely had some effort put into them. My personal favorite was the death screen pocket dimension where we first saw Aqua.

The character designs were good too. I could actually tell apart the background characters, and liked them. That's not something to be taken lightly. Background characters are usually pretty under utilized and it was refreshing to see ones that had different faces and more than two words of dialogue ever.

Favorite thing visually in the whole anime was the little snow sprites.

Where it fell flat, though, was the animation. Really jarring at times. That laborer sequence in the first episode was a fever dream. There is such a thing as too much. And sometimes people would just flail for no reason? Maybe they felt like everything was too still? Idles and background humor exist. Use them.

SOUND -- 4/10

I watched subs. I watched it all on mute after the first episode. Voices didn't fit their characters at all. OP was super generic. ED was pretty for like thirty seconds and then it got annoying.

CHARACTERS -- 4/10

Fuck MC. Hated him. Absolute dick, boring as hell. The only shred of personality he had was "o no dont burn my tracksuit!" Are we supposed to root for this guy?

Aqua being ditzy was at least more entertaining to watch than whats-his-face being whiny. Sorry, but village idiots will always be funnier than assholes. Also her magic was pretty.

Darkness's masochism thing got old after a while but she wasn't the worst ever.

Megumin and the townsfolk were absolute delights. Best part of the whole anime. Where's our Megumin spinoff? Give us a Megumin spinoff. It would be a better anime. Show us how she grew to love explosions. Show us demon lore and worldbuilding. Show us, like, a real story arc involving her and the townsfolk. It can still be comedy. Just do away with this god-awful MC you gave us and let our true hero shine.

OVERALL -- 5/10

I've sat through worse anime. Hourou Musuko gave me a headache in all four categories. At least this had consistently nice visuals and one single main character to love. It gets a medium score.

This first season doesn't have much of a plot, but it is Isekai. What can I expect. there is some Character developement. Honestly this is good for a few laughs and occasional ecchi moments. Don't watch this without realizing it is just silly. Nonetheless I don't regret watching it.

Title: KonoSuba – God's blessing on this wonderful world! - A Wacky and Flawed Adventure

Story (5/10): "KonoSuba" follows the misadventures of Kazuma Satou, who finds himself in a fantasy world after a rather embarrassing demise in the real world. Along with a quirky group of allies, he embarks on comically inept quests and faces bizarre challenges. The story's premise is intriguing, offering a satirical take on the isekai genre by highlighting the absurdity of RPG-like worlds. However, it struggles to maintain a cohesive narrative, often devolving into episodic, slapstick humor. While this approach can be entertaining, it leaves the overarching plot feeling underdeveloped. The source material, both the light novels and manga, provide more depth and character development.

Animation (7/10): The animation in "KonoSuba" is serviceable, featuring colorful character designs and fluid action sequences. While it may not reach the visual heights of some other anime, it effectively complements the humor and wackiness of the story. Character expressions are exaggerated and convey the comedic elements well. Overall, the animation style suits the comedic tone of the series.

Sound (6/10): The sound design in "KonoSuba" is adequate, with a catchy opening theme and suitable background music. The voice acting performances, particularly for the main characters, are strong and enhance the comedy. The humor often relies on vocal deliveries and reactions, and the voice actors excel in bringing the characters to life. However, the sound quality doesn't stand out as exceptional.

Characters (6/10): The characters in "KonoSuba" are the highlight of the series. Kazuma, Aqua, Megumin, and Darkness each have distinct personalities and quirks that lead to hilarious interactions. Their flaws and comedic attributes drive the humor, making them memorable and endearing in their own ways. The character dynamics, particularly within the dysfunctional party, provide much of the series' charm.

Overall (5/10): "KonoSuba – God's blessing on this wonderful world!" is a mixed bag. It offers a unique and satirical take on the isekai genre and delivers plenty of laughs thanks to its well-crafted characters and humorous situations. However, its disjointed plot and episodic nature prevent it from reaching its full potential. If you enjoy zany comedies with RPG elements and eccentric characters, it's worth giving "KonoSuba" a try. My overall score for the anime is 5/10, reflecting its entertaining moments but also acknowledging its narrative shortcomings.

'KonoSuba' is a short anthology series of the Isekai genre. It released on the 14th of January, 2016 and was adapted from a manga series of the same name. As of now, there are 2 Seasons, with Season 1 consisting of 10 episodes, each being around 23 minutes. Here is my review of the first Season.

The show follows our rather unfortunate hero, Kazuma, after an embarrassing and untimely death. Upon meeting a Goddess by the name of Aqua, Kazuma is offered a chance at a new life in a new world. Unsatisfied with his previous life, Kazuma takes the chance at a new beginning with the Goddess.

KonoSuba is a parody of the Isekai genre and the typical shenanigans you would expect from one: Horny main characters, over-the-top jiggle physics and barely any sense of direction. It knows this and rolls with it, not taking itself seriously at all. That's one place where KonoSuba shines. Each episode is tasked with trying to outdo the previous one in terms of just pure absurdity and I love it. If you're looking for a show that will leave you craving more, this is it.

While the shows main purpose is to mock the Isekai genre, what it does best is character. After arriving in the new world, Kazuma's gaming know-how tells him that the first thing he should do is apply for the Adventurer's Guild as he would do in one of his typical role-playing games. However, before he is able to go on quests, he must put together a team of competent hardworking adventurers, or at least try to, as the teammates he ends up finding are anything but. Aqua, the Goddess that brought Kazuma to the new world, accompanies him on his adventures although, despite being a literal Goddess, she turns out to be incredibly useless. Megumin, a magician with a love for explosion magic and ONLY explosion magic, joins them after not being able to find a party herself. While her magic is very powerful, she is only able to use it once a day before being unable to move from exhaustion. Pretty useless too. The final member of the team is Darkness, a Knight from a wealthy family. Sounds somewhat competent, right? WRONG. She's not only a masochist who runs headfirst into battle, but she can't hit shit. Overall, not really the best team, is it?

However, despite being very incompetent, the four of them are the reason I'd recommend this show. Watching them interact with one another is so charming, funny and oddly wholesome at times. The chemistry they all share whenever they're on screen make this otherwise by the books Isekai immensely enjoyable. These guys carry the show so hard.

Other than that, there's not much else to talk about KonoSuba. This risky mockery of the Isekai genre is very entertaining thanks to the very strong main cast and an interesting animation style. Apparently the Dub is also meant to be pretty good, so that's a few extra brownie points. Unfortunately though, I can't give it many more points due to its rather unfocused story and short runtime. Regardless, I'd highly recommend KonoSuba to anyone who loves a good laugh.

I give 'KonoSuba Season 1' an 8/10

Thanks for reading and I hope you found this helpful!

Konosuba is the best comedy anime out there. I could go around making aguements on WHY it's so good, but truly It just made me feel the happiest. Anime has been flooded with trash copy and paste isekai, but this is an exeption. The MC is weak, actually acts like a human being, and has a lot of common sense. Kazuma is for no good reason my favorite character in anime. Konosuba is the anime equivilent of a sitcom, but with the best art style there is. Any hate toward konosuba takes nothing from the masterpiece that it is.
