Both of these comedy anime take place in school and the main character is a girl with communication difficulties and they struggle to make friends. Also, the other main character in both is a boy who can understand the main girl quite well. Both of these shows are pretty wholesome and worth watching especially if you liked the other. Both series can feel a bit episodic but there is an overarching plot.

Both characters start off with having a hard time communicating with each other in the beginning and develops towards each episode, most of the characters have similar personalities and give off the same vibe, and it has almost the same comedy.

Both shows have high school girls that have communication issues that they want to overcome. They both have goals to make an absurd number of friends.

Both feature socially anxious characters wishing to make friends. And, both feature an accommodating supporting cast who help the main character form relationships despite their difficulties. Very healing shows for socially anxious people.

Both of them revolve around protagonists suffering from social anxiety but their goals are to acquire friends albeit, the goals are set differently (one wants to befriend her entire class whereas the latter wants to make 100 friends at best). 

Both are also very wholesome series with characters having bountiful personalities.

Both are adorable, wholesome slice-of-life series about a very socially anxious girl trying to make new friends.

There's really not much else to say, they have pretty much the same brand of humour down to the punny names for the characters; pretty much the only difference is that Komi-san has just a tiny bit of romance mixed with the comedy bits, if you particularly care about that.

Anyway, both are very nice feel-good titles, so give them a try!

Both animes deal with a character who is misunderstood and ostracized (though komi positively so and sawako negatively so) from real connections and relationships.  Both animes begin when the character meets someone who makes them feel safe and their stories begin when they take a first step outside of their comfort zone with the support of that character.  During both animes, the character works through their feelings of inferiority and takes steps to be brave through their feelings of wanting to help or be close to others, though komi focuses more on a more light-hearted story of comedy and sawako's story goes deeper into the emotional experience and development of the characters and relationships.  Also, we do not ever know what komi is thinking and do not experience the story from her perspective whereas sawako is telling her story.  Both have an element of potential romance as well, though komi is more subtle in this vein.  Depending on which elements of storytelling a watcher prefers, there is potential to enjoy both stories as heart-warming and funny.

While the basic plot is pretty different, both of these shows derive a lot of their comedy from the socially awkward main characters getting badly misunderstood and revered as some kind of divine being... when they really only want to enjoy their everyday school life.

Handa-kun doesn't have any romance if that's what you're looking for, but other than that, I feel if you enjoy one of these series for the comedy, you'll surely get a few laughs from the other too.

Both feature mute characters who communicate via writing, and both feature happy, wholesome storylines where the mute characters are able to form bonds with others as they naturally are, without them being forced to speak.

Both feature quiet "outsider" main characters who find it hard to connect with those around them. In both cases, the character is able to connect with certain people, even despite the difficulties they face.

They're pretty similar. Both center around a character that has a condition that makes it hard for them to make friends. Both of them make their first friend, who helps them try and make more friends. If you want to watch animes that have a similar story, then maybe give this a shot.

Komi doesn't go as extreme as Asobi Asobase, even if some characters act abrasively/irreverently in both shows, it does compare with both series taking place in school and take a mundane enough situation but because the characters we follow can't act normally the whole thing takes an extreme turn which results in laugh-out-loud comedy. Both shows are famous/infamous for the various reactions which elevate the comedy aspect of the series, Komi character expressions are intentionally dull but are usually placed intense situations while Asobi Asobase's facial reactions get intentionally disgusting or unappealing in their explosive humor.

If you're seeking something stronger than Komi, Asobi Asobase is the way to go. Komi is more traditionally cutesy in its presentation while you could say Asobi aims to be a subversion to conventional "cutesy" school anime.

Kono Oto Tomare is a better slice of life anime than komi. Kono oto tomare is more on a serious tone than komi and also its got a soft romance with not one but two couples going on. im sure youll love it.

Komi can't communicate is a heart felt lovely anime that will make you fell warm inside!
