From their focus on an introverted pianist and his group of friends, to the depth of character development, they both vary their tone between lighthearted and darker emotional moments. If you liked either one of these, it's a good bet you'll like the other.

Both are noitaminA anime about pianists who begrudgingly take on changes to their style. This sudden immersion in a new piano "scene" opens the doors to new friendships and romance and general growing up. If you liked the sense of coming of age wrapped up with the music of either anime, you should definitely try the other! Both also have gorgeous animation and very pretty soundtracks. The characters and their relationships are delightful to watch, but not without drama. They are very similar shows that complement each other well.

I'd have to say between Nodame and Apollon this one is the most alike to Your Life in April. Both about male main characters who have 'sad' pasts that have their lives changed by meeting someone else and subsequently change their music style because of that. Romance is also subtle but present in both of these.

From what I've seen so far, Your Lie in April is going to end up being slightly MORE serious than Apollon, which though it too has its deep moments, ends fairly well and keeps a light hearted vibe. While Apollon seems a little more whimsical as it takes place in a small town near the sea (going to school still involved) without as much emphasis on school life, Your Lie in April seems more modern and sticks it out in the old school setting for the most part.

Sakamichi No Apollon and Shigatsu wa Kimi no Uso are quite alike. They both share common themes including music, and romance. They both can be serious and some points and extremely lighthearted at others. Both shows feature a MC that is a Pianist who grows through music and friends. If you liked one I'm sure you'd like the other.

Both shows are about music and both have a deeper plot behind music.. Though one's about jazz in 70's and the other's about classical music now, they both have a similar feeling..

Both anime involve teenagers coming of age, romance/love triangles, and music (albiet different genres of music).  Both series contain both comedic/light-hearted moments as well as sad/dramatic moments (though Your Lie in April is ultimately the more tragic of the two).  If you like one, then you will probably like the other.

While Your Lie in April showcases much more melancholy themes, I feel that the character developments result in similar relationships between the characters. While Kids on the Slope is shorter and more light-hearted, they offered up the same emotions for me at least.

Both make me think of music in a completely different light, as I've never seriously taken up an instrument, but for both series, their craft is their main means of expression. Whether it's to exhibit what they're going through to others or just to help them clear their heads, the amount of passion in their playing is something to appreciate.

Kids on the Slope and Your lie in April similar but also not lol. While Kids on the Slope is about jazz music and Your lie in April is about classical music, they both are about music and force you to perceive the idea of music in a different way. With that said, Your lie in April is a lot more emotional and suspenseful while Kids on the Slope is easygoing but both are enjoyable.

Beck: Mongolian Chop Squad has an extremely similar atmosphere to Sakamichi no Apollon in many ways, though the setting and style of music vary greatly. The emphasis on a developing friendship between two young men is strikingly similar, as are the tribulations they go through as their bond deepens. The music is fantastic in both, though more rock and punk centered in Beck. I'd have to give Beck a slight edge over Sakamichi no Apollon in quality, though it pains me to say so being a huge Watanabe fan. Both have top notch writing and well developed characters though, again, I'd rate Beck higher in both.

If u like Sakamichi no Apollon, u will like Beck and vice versa as Beck is rock and more modern verison of Sakamichi no Apollon and Sakamichi no Apollon is Jazz and 60's version of Beck

Both of these shows are centered around boys who don't belong but find their place in rock/jazz. You will see many of the same struggles and joys of finding friends with whom you can play music with. While there is the obvious music connection, the similarities go beyond that into a similar atmosphere and feel.

Both animes deal with the themes of using music as a release to help their teenage main characters deal with loneliness they both try to identify the themes of their respective music. Rock music for Beck and Jazz for Kids On the Slope (Sakamichi no Apollon)

Sakamichi no Apollon and Beck both share themes of friendship, love, and passion. The styles of both shows do a great job of creating a realistic feel and get you to like the characters through tales of their feelings.

Additionally, both shows do a great job with their soundtracks and implementing music into the show without getting into a supernatural theme. If you want a realistic story of friends, aspirations, music, and life in general, Beck and Sakamichi no Apollon go very well together.

If you liked Beck, and seeing the interplay of characters to whom music is a big factor in their life, then I'd recommend checking out Kids on the Slope.  And if you enjoyed following the growing friendships and ties main guy Kaoru Nishimi makes due to his music in Kids on the Slope, then check out the formation and trials and tribulations of newly formed rock group Beck. Kids is a bit more slice-of-life and features jazz rather than rock as Beck does, but both anime are about how music changes the life of the main protagonist.

I think both the shows relate because they both are about enjoying music and how it be used to show/share emotions. The both have sub plots which makes the show even better. The only difference in the type of music the show cover. Beck is more rock while kids on the slope is jazz.

Coming of age anime about starting a band anyone? well say no more. Though i prefer kids on the slope mainly because it's directed by one of my favorite directors (Watanabe is a asthetic god). the animation in both even though beck is a tad older is pretty darn good. Ofcourse because they are both coming of age anime it gets a bit cheesy but because beck was made in like early nineties  the cheese got a little too dated and moldy

Waiting in the Summer (Ano Natsu de Matteru) and Kids on the Slope (Sakamichi no Apollon) contain a group of friends, school life, love triangles and an art form (filming and music respectively).

I think that if you liked one you'll probably like the other because of these elements, including the love and friendship story.

Both of these shows are charming and bittersweet. The clumsy way the characters try to express their feelings for each other is similar, as is the drama that results because of people's romantic interest. I'd recommend both to people who like a tangled mess of love triangles.

the "love triangles" in both are similar. in both, person A likes person B who has been friends with since childhood and is in love with person C, who likes person D, likes person E, who likes person D back. The way the characters interact with each other is similar and the both end in a way that may make you shed a few tears, but its happy.

Apollon is so underated in my opinion, but then again its rather hard to come across. (thus the rec.) Apollon and Ano Natsu is a strange combination. Story wise both wereexcellent in character development and plot. It might be better to point out some diffrences first though.Apollon focuses a lot on music, whileAno Natsu uses the slice of lifecard. Now Ano Natsu is deffinitelynot just slice of lifein fact Apollon shares some of this as well. Another key note in differentiaing between the two would be is there isa little more romancethan in Ano Natsu than in Apollon. They do have some "love traits" in common though.

Both of these shows are about new friendships, personal growth, and beautiful music. They are relaxing stories with amazing music, and have similar vibes. Young musicians meet amd form unlikely friendships and deal with the hardships of youth and creating music. If you enjoyed one, I highly recommend the other.

This slice of life anime Kids on the Slope is very reminiscent of Carole & Tuesday for me. Maybe it had do with the young characters trying to find themselves through music or that I could relate to the characters themselves. It might have both. But depsite the two genres of music being different from one another, I love the passion and growth that each show gives to the audience. With it's steady pace of plot, likable characters & well-written backstpries for it's characters I enjoyed both of these shows greatly.

Although the characters in Sakamichi no Apollon are younger than Honey and Clover's, both shows tell coming-of-age stories about friendship and complex love triangles (or maybe pentangles?) with a serious-dramatic tone and a side of light humor.

Another josei series about a love dodecahedron that's as complex as it is unrequited. While Kids on the Slope features jazz music, and Honey and Clover focuses on art, both are full of characters with passion and drive. If you liked one, and are looking for another mature series with bucket loads of drama, definitely check out the other.

Sakamichi and H&C both center on relationships between people first and art second. While H&C has the main cast doing some rather crazy antics at times, when it comes to drama between people, they're both pretty normal. People have believable issues instead of gigantic problems that would require psychiatric aid. Their relationships are riddled with the same uncertainty most people can recognize. A lot of introspection, stupid decisions and one-sided love with the hope of it turning into something else. Sentaro and Morita also reminded me of each other with their random appearances out of nowhere and complete indifference to what other people thought of them.

Nana and Sakamichi no Apollon are both anime with heavy themes about friends, love, and music!

Nana centers around adults in the Punk Rock scene (in 2003) trying to get famous whereas Sakamichi centers around teens who play jazz (in the 1960s) and are just trying to figure out life. Despite the differences, both anime have dynamic main characters and interesting secondary characters. Both have fast-paced stories that tug at your heartstrings.

If you liked one, the other is a must-watch, even if the music isn't to your taste the anime surely will be!

Both animes focus on the premise that music is an integral part of their lifestyle. This includes both animes cast members forming a band and the enjoyment of playing as a group. Romance and love triangles are also key factors during both shows tenures.

White Album 2 and Kids on the Slope (Sakamichi no Apollon) are about a group of friends, their school life, the love triangles between them and their passion for music.

I think that if you liked one you'll probably like the other because of these elements, including the love and friendship story.

Both of these series use music as a way to form a truly intense love triangle. Both tore my heart to pieces. White Album 2, I'd argue, is more relentless than Sakamichi no Apollon / Kids on the Slope in how it treats its heroines. Sakamichi no Apollon / Kids on the Slope spends more time building characters before dropping into the drama.

Both anime have a delightful adult feel to them while exploring the characters within the show. Both have a very similar art style to them and make you feel happy just to watch even though neither show is super light-hearted. Both also have an underlying plot of food (risto) and music (apollon) while still keeping up with the romance and drama. Check out one if you liked the other.

Ristorante Paradiso and Sakamichi no Apollon don't have a common plot idea, but there are many minor thing that bonds them. Firstly - the "warm" animation. Then the OST. Both animes' seem to have a very delicate and elegant music track. Also, both are about romance that focuses on one-sided love which then turns into something else.

In both animes, there is a strong love for the music they make and play. In La Corda there is a focus on classical music and Sakamichi focuses on jazz, but they both depict music the same way. They both have plenty of romance and drama in them too. If you liked one, you'd like the other.

Same vibes in plot and art. Feels kind of like the sun on a nice spring day, it just makes you happy. Take your pick of jazz, classical, or watch them both. I recommend watching them both

Both of these animes involve a little bit of romance, a little bit of drama, and plenty of beautiful music. While Whisper is more classical than Sakamichi, they both have the same feel. If you like animes about kids reaching for their dreams, these are the animes to watch.
