Shakugan no Shana

Shakugan no Shana

Sakai Yuuji thought he was a normal high school student, until one fateful day when time stopped. Watching in horror, he witnesses a monster devouring the "frozen" people around him; but luckily for Yuuji, he is saved by a sword-wielding red-headed girl that calls herself a "Flame Haze". The girl informs him that he has been dead for some time now and that his current self is merely a replacement for the human that he used be while alive. He is, she says, merely a torch whose life will come to an end when the blue flame in his chest ceases to burn. After this rude awakening, Yuuji realizes that he is able to see the flames of life in other "torches"; and after discovering that a friend of his is also a torch -- and her life is burning out faster than his – he gains the courage to live out the rest of his life with meaning. Will Yuuji be able to find his place in the world before he ceases to exist?

The relationship that is shared between the two main characters in Kaze no Stigma is a spitting image of the relationship between the two main characters in Shakugan no Shana. The girls are both tsunundre-type characters, the kind that no one can hate.

Canal Canal says...

In both Kaze no Stigma and Shakugan no Shana the female lead is hot-headed and wields a fiery sword which she uses to fight supernatural enemies. She also tends to argue with the male lead even though she secretly likes him.

If you like the idea of an episodic series with an overall plot/mission wherein your protagonists face some dark and sinister group to overcome look no further. You get humour, good action sequences, cute love story and definate character growth. Everything you see in Kaze no Stigma, you'll find in Shakugan no Shana with a slight bend to it, yet still enjoyable on the same level.

Licious Licious says...

Both shows have a similar feel to them. They have similar characteristics, like magic and fighting, but also have some differences, within the story and characters, that are to be appreciated. Although both the shows lay low on the story side of things, if you like fights with magic you'll be sure to like these two shows.

The main girl character are almost the same in both animes. They look, fight and act extremely similar! Also there is a hidden romance. The boy and the girl love each other without even knowing about. In a part of the anime the also have in commun that the girl is jealous of the boy looking at other girl

BRID BRID says...

Yep, well if you really enjoyed shakugan no shana you might want to watch this,  but when i saw the first episode i was like "wow this is alot like Shana"but when you get further in you see the differences between the 2 so its not exactly the same.although they are very similar still.contracters, fire chick, wind guy, main guy teamed up with fire chick. magic, fight other guys. with a bit of romance in it.

Well like everyone says this anime is very similar to each other .. A red haired girl with a flaming sword and spoiled attitude but the diffrent is that Ayano isnt that strong as Shana... ;D I recomend you watch the english dub version of this anime its way better

Added to the fact that they both are drawn alike and that they give the same feeling when watching the surroundings, Shana and Kaze no Stigma resemble in the way the characters act, talk and use magic. In each anime they have to fight , mostly to protect. If you liked one, you'll most surely like the other!

KittyEmperor KittyEmperor says...

In both series we get a tsundere female types who go around swinging a sword of fire.  Each series for the most part tends to focus more on the fighting make the battles look good and interesting and focusing on building on the feelings that the characters experience in each series in particular the romance between the male and female leads.

Both anime have a girl, with a sword, a "fiery nature" and who both like a guy but pretend they don't. Kaze no Stigma involves families with magical history, unlike Shana, but they are still very similar.

A girl with a sword that can control fire and meets a guy who she does not like at first but eventually falls in love with him. Sound familiar? Yep both KnS and SnS have that

Kaze no Stigma and Shakugan no Shana are both very similar in a lot of ways. In both series you get a strong, firey, almost violent girl and a quiet boy. In both series you get a girl character that wields elemental fire magic. Both series are also a like in their tone and pacing. If you like the firey blend of magic and tsundere in one you will like the other.

Zaig Zaig says...

Tsundere flaming sword-wielders are the heroines of both these tales about monsters threatening everyday lives of normal humans, ignorant of the world’s true nature. Each female lead is partnered with a guy who is much more levelheaded than herself, though Shakugan no Shana’s male doesn’t have any battle expertise unlike the capable other from Kaze no Stigma. If you enjoyed all of the scorching action in one of these, you’ll get just as overheated from the excitement that watching the other brings.

saying saying says...

If you kaze no stigma then'll there is high possibility of you liking Shakugan no Shana. These two anime aren't very similar in the story concept, but the main characters of both are very similar.                                                            I'm not gonna go into great detail because it'll just be a pain to read. So lightly....Both main characters are female both using fire magic, similar sub characters, Shana is about spirits and that.

I recommend it if you like Kaze no Stigma, go give the first ep a shot!

Allismon Allismon says...

The main character is a girl who fights with a sword and fire. Both tsundere. Both have good storylines, but Shakugan no Shana has more romance.

Both of the Shakugan no Shana and Kaze no Stigma are amazing and very similar. Both leave you craving for more and are alike in the way that the caractares love eachother (they don't fully know who they love until the end). With both of these shows there is magic, fighting, and a few jokes here and there. Shakugan no Shana is my favorite anime of all that I have watched, and Kaze no Stigma is a very possible runner up. Unfortunately both shows have one flaw, they end. If it were up to me these two anime would never end. But alas, all good things must end at one point or another. Anyway, both these shows are great and should be watched.

Grach Grach says...

The most obvious feature is that both Shakugan no Shana and Kaze no Stigma have a flame-haired girl who weilds a firery sword who knows how to use it! However, they share a similar presentation of the relationship between the protagonists, and have a small dosage of comedy interwoven with the plots. There is also the fact that both fight against a seemingly unknown enemy.

TallyCrow TallyCrow says...

I think that there is some unique qualities that are the same, such as a powerful girl.

Both girls use a sword..  hair is red/pink.

Both animes use magic.. though diffo kinda.

There is most likely more.. but yeh deffo if you like one, you willl most likely like the other.

phoniefly phoniefly says...

Both of these i  Loved they have the funny love story going on and which jsut makes it an all around fun anime to watch but ye they always show both of the leads growing in power reachign the full extent of what they can really. Even thought they have a funny love story they always have serious moments which is what i love about both of these animes. And we can't forget the action they have in them.

i agree with this recommendation because i watched all seasons of shakugan no shana and kaze no stigma, they both have spirits and stuffs and some character simalarities. ill warn you ahead though that the series kaze no stigma is hiatus and no more seasons will come out, even though the work is actually amazing.

The Familiar of Zero

The Familiar of Zero

In a world where magic is a reality, the young Louise is at the bottom of her class. Dubbed "Zero" by her classmates at Tristein Academy (due to her zero success rate for magic), Louise (along with all first year students) was charged with summoning a familiar; and instead of a cute magical creature, the familiar arrived in the form of... Saito Hiraga, a normal Japanese boy who was abruptly teleported from his own world?! Can both Louise and Saito come to terms with their new and complicated "relationship" and (more importantly) help Saito find a way home?

In both Kaze no Stigma and Zero no Tsukaima there is romance, comedy and action. The main female character is not true to her feelings about the main male character. When she is jealous she gets violent. The male character is perverted and not really sure about his feelings until near the end.

eaper eaper says...

Both of these series are led by a tsunundre female that doesn't grasp their own feelings and are set within a magical world. Also, Zero's and Kazuma's types of power are extremely rare and powerful.

KittyEmperor KittyEmperor says...

Both series center around who are somewhat outcasts of society.  In Zero it's Saito who comes to this strange magical world and ends up the familiar to Louise and in Kaze no Stigma we have Kazuma who was kicked out of the Kannagi Household.  In both series we also get tsundere females who try to figure out their own feelings in a magical world.  Also in both cases the male lead turns out to be quite the fighter and nowhere near was wimpy as some males in other series turn out to be.

kmiklaus kmiklaus says...

Both series male and female leads are very similar.  Louise and Ayano are both strong willed ladies used to getting what they want.  Saito and Kazuma are both wise-cracking cool guys with powers of their own.  How the relationships between the male/female leads develop throughout is pretty much the same as well.  I think if you like the style and humor of one you will definitely like the other - both have a little action, a little romance, and a lot of laughs.

Buso Renkin

Buso Renkin

Some things in life are so bad that you'd like to pretend they're just a dream. Unfortunately for Kazuki, trying to save a strange girl from being brutally killed by monsters (and ending up dying instead) is an unfortunate reality. Out of pity, the girl replaces Kazuki's heart with an alchemy-based artifact known as Kakugane, so that he may live on. With this strange device, Kazuki gains the power of Busou Renkin -- Arms Alchemy; a power that will come in handy when monsters (and worse) begin to plague his town! Kazuki soon meets the girl from his “dream” (named Tokiko) in reality, and she tells Kazuki to get on with his life; but with his sister and friends in danger, that might not be possible. Besides, if Kazuki gives up the chance to show off just how manly he can be, how can he hope to win the heart of the alluring older-sister-like Tokiko?!

Busou Renkin and Kaze no Stigma both fit in the Romance and Action categories. Both feature a lead character that starts out cold, and eventually warms up to the other lead character of the opposite sex. Both feature main characters with an obscured, dark past that motivates them to gain power. Besides the setting, there are several key differences in the execution and direction of these two anime.

Kaze no Stigma has a slightly darker tone, more concrete villains, dryer (and more frequent) humor, and starts the romance more or less from the very beginning of the story.

Busou Renkin has a noticeably lighter tone, similar humor (though not as dry and dark), a more complete execution of the romantic elements, and villains that exhibit duality (in fact, I believe all of the main villains have at least 1 extra facet to their character)

The last difference I would like to note (though very vaguely, as not to spoil anything) is that there is a definite difference in the relative power of the main characters between each anime.

While seeing all these supernatural abilities, we somehow want to become closer to that kind of world. In Kaze no Stigma is exposed only the one side of it - the direct use of magic without a thought about how it was gained and how it is supposed to be used. But there is Rental Magica that not only focus on the supernatural, on the magic itself, but on explaining the things we don\'t know about it - how it is related to martial arts, what are the different kinds of magic (e.g. Celtic, Shinto, Solomon) that come from different places on Earth. So if you are fascinated by Kaze no Stigma, you\'ll just need to learn more about magic with Rental Magica!

Merryberry Merryberry says...

Magic has a tendancy to be different in every serie, and these two are no different in that respect. However, they are similar in the aspect that both have different types of magic within the magical world and that ultimately there are those who wish to distrupt the peace of the world and the knowledgable heros always tend to be placed with the unknowing main characters. Either way, both Kaze no Stigma and Rental Magica, exhibit a display of comedy with very serious situations enabling a good gentle viewing that many people who have watched one will mean that the other one is also of suitable viewing. Finally in addition to these, both are of show the progress of how the protagonist improves throughout the series, an added extra if you like those kinds of things.

Cetonis Cetonis says...

Aside from basic genre similarities, Kaze no Stigma and Rental Magica both use a straightforward arc-based structure. Each is comprised of a set of simple stories in which the characters get involved in some sort of magic-related circumstance, using a mix of action, light comedy and some character development to pull itself along. Kaze has better fight scenes, while Rental has its well-known focus on "real" magic - either of which makes for an added reason to try the other if you liked one.

KittyEmperor KittyEmperor says...

Both series are for the most part centered around magic and a small group of people dealing with it.  Kaze no Stigma has better fight scenes than Rental Magica giving that more action feel.  But Rental Magica deals with a larger variety of magic and explaining how that magic works than Kaze no Stigma making it a good idea to watch the other after seeing one of them if for nothing else to just give it a try.
