Sweetness & Lightning

Sweetness & Lightning

Having lost his wife, math teacher Kouhei Inuzuka is doing his best to raise his young daughter Tsumugi as a single father. He's pretty bad at cooking and doesn't have a huge appetite to begin with, but chance brings his little family and one of his students, Kotori Iida, together for homemade adventures. With those three cooks in the kitchen, it's no wonder this dinner table drama is so delicious.

Both are light hearted animes with a bit of drama revolving around a single dad taking care of their daughter. sweetness and lighting focuses around cooking and food. Kakushigoto about manga creation.

both are really endearing with likeable characters. Sweetness is probably more cute, whilst kakushigoto has much more word play and manga references

If you enjoy a good father daughter bonding anime, both of these are sure to warm your heart! Both are very endearing as well as being comedic as well.

Bunny Drop

Bunny Drop

When Daikichi's grandfather dies he leaves behind a young daughter named Rin. However, as most of the family is embarrassed at the idea of a 79-year-old man having a six-year-old child, they can't seem to figure out what to do with her. Disgusted by this behavior, Daikichi decides to take care of her himself, but he's a bachelor, has no idea how to raise a child, and isn't even all that comfortable with kids! Now, Daikichi must do the normal things a parent does such as enroll her in school, buy her clothing and teach her about the life and world around her. But more importantly, he must also help her deal with her father's death and decide whether or not she should try to find her mother. Together, the two begin their unlikely relationship as father and daughter, navigating each of life's bumps along the way.

Kakushigoto is a bit more focused on the comedic aspect of life, but both centre around a father daughter relationship and navigating life.

Both animes represent a father-daughter relationship where the father is a single-parent. The Bunny drop feels more realistic and there the man is learning to become a father. Whereas Kakushigoto is full of comedic material and the father is trying to protect his daughter from his odd job.

Sayonara, Zetsubou-Sensei

Sayonara, Zetsubou-Sensei

Life is simply not worth living for down and out school teacher Itoshiki Nozomu. He has no hope of progress, no prospect of promotion, no chance at happiness… he is in despair! Even his name spells 'zetsubou' – 'despair', when compressed. But when the time comes to end it all, Itoshiki's attempted suicide on the first day of the new school year is foiled by relentlessly positive Fuura Kafuka. This saves Itoshiki long enough to meet his new class, and the quirky range of students under his care. Will Itoshiki Nozomu depress his students with his anguish? Or will Fuura show Zetsubou-sensei the joys of life and hope?

Barakamon

Barakamon

Far from the modern conveniences of the city, the moody artist must adapt to his rural environment and his quirky but well-intentioned neighbors. How can he focus on his art when his appliances frequently don't work, his neighbors keep bothering him, and the neighborhood children have turned his house into a secret base?

Both are endearing animes revolving around a male guardian taking care of a young child. both are intensely funny whilst maintaining a degree of drama.

both male leads are artists who somewhat have an existential issue in being unable to come to terms with their jobs; barakamon, in terms of calligraphy and kakushigoto in terms of hiding his manga career from his daughter.

lots of insights to the profession and a funny and cute kids.

despite the premise of kakushigoto writing perverted manga, all of the animes are quite pure and innocent. Kakushigoto is also more heavily about father-daughter where barakamon is non biological.

Bokura Mangaka: Tokiwa-sou Monogatari

Tokiwa was the apartment complex where a group of stellar artists lived in 1953. Hiro Terada, Motoo Abiko and Hiroshi Fujimoto, Shotaro Ishinomori and Fujio Akatsuka shared the trials and tribulations of being struggling young artists and writers with no money and no luck with editors or girls, with a spirit of insane youthful enthusiasm that enabled them to survive the lean years and emerge as stars of the manga firmament.
