Gakkou no Kaidan and Kaidan Restaurant both follow a group of kids as they experience usually horrific, but often lighthearted encounters with the dead. Each can be considered fairly episodic and definitely has the same tone and feel, though I like Kaidan Restaurant a little more.

Galadriel Galadriel says...

both Gakkou no Kaidan and Kaidan Restaurant focus on a group of kids which deal with ghosts, undead, zombies, supernatural creatures in other words, experiencing horrific scenes. Both animes are kinda episodic so if you like one of this two then for sure you will enjoy the other one as well

Both are shows about elementary school students encountering supernatural phenomena and dealing with it.  They both have a light-hearted (considering the subject) feel to them and are fairly easy to watch.

Eneeli Eneeli says...

Both feature a bunch of kids experiencing ghostly adventures in a small town. However, do not underestimate these shows simply because it caters to kids. In their own way, both shows serve their purpose in scaring the audience.

Kaidan Restaurant makes use of the slice-of-life story-telling which lets your imagination run freely (and against you). Ghost Stories uses scary animated scenes, which despite the quality, works pretty well.

In Kaidan Restaurant, the stories are narrated by the friendly spooks themselves while in Ghost Stories, the kids are aided by a reluctant supernatural sidekick. Yet, the audience gets drawn into the tales anyway.

Ayakashi: Japanese Classic Horror

Ayakashi: Japanese Classic Horror

The dark and brooding Ayakashi is composed of three horror stories: the narration of a young woman named Oiwa who was abandoned and betrayed by the one she truly loved, leading her to curse all who stood in her way; a story of two star-crossed lovers – a human and a forgotten god – and their struggle to have a future together; and the tale of an evil and malicious demon who is haunting and murdering a family for unknown purposes. Though different in animation style and tone, each story shares a similar theme: the darkness of the human heart.

Admittedly, Ayakashi is way more adult than Kaidan Restaurant (as the latter is more lighthearted - sort of - and deals with kiddy type ghost stories), but if you're into episode ghost stories these are two great ones to check out.

Eneeli Eneeli says...

Stories are told in that same calm manner, like typical Japanese ghost storytellers do. There is little dramatics in the narration which is good, since it lets the anticipation build up slowly and the mind gets to run on its own.

That's how I like my ghost stories.

However, in Ayakashi, the stunning visuals speak for themselves. In Kaidan Restaurant, your imagination is merely aided along by the friendly subtle scenes which comes across as creepy rather than full-blown scary.

Both anime are about a group of people that hunt supernatural things to solve the case. mystery surrounds both anime and both have a wide range of interesting characters that you'll love to hate or just plain love. Kaidan restaurant seems to be a little more childish as the characters are all kids where ghost hunt seems to be more mature. check one out if you liked the other!

Haunted Junction

Haunted Junction

Haruto Hojo is the son of a priest, which might sound normal. However, his school is the ground zero gathering point for everything ghost, spirit, and likewise, thanks to the obsessed (and also a ghost) headmaster of the school! In order to make sure everything runs normally, Hojo (who just wants to live a normal life), along with Mutsuki (prodigal Japanese priestess), and Kazumi (a frequently possessed monk), complete tasks that only seem to make the school more strange and hectic!

These two are about unlucky students who manage to keep running into supernatural trouble!  HJ is way more "grown-up" than Kaiden Restaurant, but they both deal with death and the beyond in a light-hearted, episodic way.

Gregory Horror Show

Gregory Horror Show

A man approaches a sinister-looking house, not knowing how he got there or where he is. He has arrived at the Gregory Horror House, a place where strange creatures and mysterious specters float the halls and inhabit the rooms. From the teetering, toothy Judgment Boy who roams the corridors to a sexy and bloodthirsty reptilian nurse, from a gun slinging compadre and beyond, there are plenty of bizarre tenants of Gregory Horror House; but what's really going on, and why do people find their way to this place?

Both of these are anime that re-use different cast memebers to tell episodic horror stories (I'd just consider them eerie or creapy).  They cover all kinds of different horror stories involving demons, zombies, ghosts, and everything else superntural. Fans of one might enjoy the other.

Toshi Densetsu Monogatari Hikiko

Toshi Densetsu Monogatari Hikiko

Satoshi returns to his hometown after years of being away, carrying with him terrible memories of his past. He remembers the day Satoko Kisiki joined his class – it was the rainy season, and her unusual body made her an easy target for cruel bullying, though Satoshi never took part in the mean tricks that were played on her. However, soon he found himself relentlessly chased by a mysterious and deformed girl whose long dark hair obscured her face. Was this a simple case of a joke gone too far, or was a poor, mistreated girl looking to take revenge on those who made her life miserable?

Enjoyed some of Kaidan Restaurant's scarier tales, and ready for something a bit more intense? Try Toshi Densetsu Monogatari Hikiko. Although the animation isn't the greatest, it still pulls off a scary story!

Aside from their supernatural themes and short-story-style setup, these shows have similarities in art style and the elementary school age of the kids. Additionally, in both, there is a female protagonist who gets pulled into solving problems that are a result of otherworldly beings acting on the world. Spooky, and at times, comedic.

While Kaidan Restaurant is specifically designed for kids, these shows are still very similar. They are horror anime that are very spooky and focus more on suspense than gore. They are both also regular length episodes that are divided up into multiple independant stories. If you liked one, you'd probably enjoy the other.

While Kaidan Restaurant is for slightly younger viewers, both of these shows are short episodic horror series. They have a repeating cast, but new ghouls every episode. If you liked one, you'd probably enjoy the other.
