Tomie Kawakami is a femme fatale with long black hair and a beauty mark just under her left eye. She can seduce nearly any man, and drive them to murder as well, even though the victim is often Tomie herself. While one lover seeks to keep her for himself, another grows terrified of the immortal succubus. But soon they realize no matter how many times they kill her, the world will never be free of Tomie.
Anime Review #19 - Junji Ito's Tomie you love her so much that it makes you want to cut her to pieces.</3 this review is gonna be a little brutal, but I swear i love junji ito’s work, the anime just didn’t live up to his legend!!! right off the bat you’ll notice that this anime adaption had a completely different art style than the manga, and it just wasnt giving off the same vibe that i was imagining when i read it. the plot also felt rushed (given that the episodes were only like 10 mins each and they only animated 2 episodes) i feel like they could’ve added more background info, or at least given some sort of creepy opening for tomie and who she is before jumping right in to the story. If they had just done more than simply copying the manga and instead created a bigger story, that wouldve been more enjoyable. I’ve read the manga though, so i know they were just trying to stay true to that, but i wanted ~more~. Also the gore censoring was sooo annoying :/ If im trying to watch tomie, im expecting to see blood and gore lol. overall, i love tomie and i think shes an icon, but this couldve been conveyed A LOT better... i hope they try again though and take a whole new approach if they decide to animate another junji ito work. I think it would be cool if they made it a short movie rather than a series of episodes. edit: i think there is a movie ...? idk i will have to find it O___O
