Two hilarious titles where someone is thrust into an unfamiliar world and proceeds to make an ass out himself accidentally, with plenty of fun monsters and comedy to boot.

Both anime are about a teenage boy suddenly being dropped into a strange world very different from their own. The animation is also very similar. I think if you liked one or found it funny/interesting you would think the same of the other.

Gintama

Gintama

In Gintoki's Japan, the arrival of the various space races known collectively as the Amanto ended the era of the samurai. The Amanto's highly advanced technology resulted in total conquest and a severe economic shift. Now, former samurai such as Gintoki scrape together whatever livelihood they can. Gintoki's profession of choice is that of a yorozuya: he'll complete any job for money. However, he’s unmotivated; and spending most of the day on the couch with the latest issue of Jump and a carton of Strawberry Milk is his preferred pastime. It turns out that his new unpaid employees, Shinpachi and Kagura, are going to interfere with his pastime even more than with his "work"! Of course, none of this means he has really given up on his samurai ideologies!

In both anime's there is the character who tries to act all cool in fights, then runs away and later you find out he is supper strong (Kon and Gintoki) Both anime's have similar jokes. As well as, they both have two sides of main characters. The group of three (Kon, princes with the other two and Gintoki, kagura and shinpachi) and (the incognito and the shinsengumi) if you liked the jokes and story of gintama, you would love ixion saga, or the other way around.

The humor in Ixion Saga reminds me a bit of the humor in Gintama ... only a tad bit more juvenile...

So if you're a fan of Gintama I believe you'll enjoy the somewhat random moments in Ixion Saga, and, of course, the comedy. If you're a fan of Ixion Saga I believe that you'll really enjoy Gintama and will notice their comedic similarities, and will appreciate the more in depth character development.

Sword Art Online

Sword Art Online

The year is 2022, and gamers have lined up on launch day for Sword Art Online, a hotly-anticipated MMORPG that lets players connect to an immersive virtual reality world with special helmets called Nerve Gear. Kirito is one such gamer who's eager to jump back into action, having spent a great deal of time as a beta tester, and quickly becomes friends with newbie warrior Klein. But soon, Sword Art Online's 10,000 players discover that not only are they unable to log out, the only way they can return to their physical bodies is by beating the 100-level tower's final boss - that is, if their HP doesn't drop to zero first, for death in the game means death in the real world. Now, with no one else to turn to, Kirito and the other participants must survive the game as best they can – some forming guilds, others ruthlessly leaving their peers behind, and many tragically falling by the wayside or to the merciless monsters populating the lands...

both are about the main character stuck in a video game. Sword of art online is a little different since its not big on comedy as much as Ixion sage: dt is. Both animes are a great watch i recommended both greatly.

Both anime revolve around a teenage boy being pulled into a different world he knows very little about filled with strange powers. One thing is for sure though, an exciting journey is just around the corner.

Amatsuki

Amatsuki

When Tokidoki Rikugou donned a pair of virtual reality glasses and entered a Bakumatsu-era exhibit at a museum, he had no idea that his life would drastically change. While walking across a bridge in the fabricated reality, Tokidoki ran across a small being and a monster called a nue - and he was promptly attacked. His eye was damaged, but more importantly, Tokidoki discovered that he was now stuck inside the "virtual reality" filled with samurai and spirits. Now, with the help of Kuchiha, a warrior woman possessed by a dog spirit; and Shinonome, a fellow student who has been stuck, just like Tokidoki, for the past two years, Tokidoki must search for the truth behind the nue and try to find a way home.

Another super-excellent person-in-a-strange world anime.  In Ixion Saga, it is the Otaku dating-sim-boy transported into the game, in Amatsuki, an unassuming school boy goes to a VR exhibit of Bakumatsu Tokyo/Edo and ends up there.  Both are really good, I liked them.  Enjoy!!
