This anime stands out and has its unique charm. Don't let the title fool you, dungeons are a big aspect of this anime but picking up girls within the dungeon is definitely not. This Anime is better than Sword Art Online in my opinion. This anime will be extra enjoyable for gamers or dungeon crawlers familiar with the dungeon environment. Of course anyone else can enjoy it too as it heavily revolves around the daily life of a city, the nearby dungeon, and adventurers. It also has some really touching moments, the supporter - Lili, has quite the sad background and the change in her character shown is extremely cute and touching. This fact and her animal side made her my favorite character in the anime.

There is a small amount of romance involved but only very lightly. Basically you have a bunch of different types of cute girls trying to win the attention of the main character, yet he has eyes for someone else who is not trying for his attention. Never is the focus based on romance aspects heavily, just what drives some characters motivations more or provides comedy. There are a lot of funny moments so this is quite the comedy. Expect a short scene of fan service involving the classic hot springs concept. Other than that the anime plays out focusing on the daily life of adventurers from a different perspective than we may think of when gaming which is quite neat. Gods and Goddesses also play a role in the forms of having a "familia" with the adventurers under their guidance.

Combat and action is quite existant else the comedy is there so it has no boring moments or fillers. This anime doesn't feel like it has ended in any way and leaves lots of questions still and room for a lot of development, both from the glimpses we get of some evil goddess and from the romance aspect which could play more of a role. A second season is highly expected.

Why the name was chosen remains the biggest mystery as again, this is not about going into dungeons to hit on girls.

For those that may not have noticed, this is the same company that brought us Shakugan no Shana.

Where should I even start with this? I guess the good.

Bonsai Pop's Is It Wrong To LOVE This Anime? video led me to actually considering a series with such a blantant title. And yeah, it's good (in some ways). To keep things short and simple, though, this is for teenagers. I'm a full decade past that era of my life, so... well... the problems are very blatant to me. The lack of, let's say, reasonable character development presented to the audience. For example, why the harem? Seriously, this is noticeably better than freaking Kirito from Sword Art Online, but bruh. It's cheap. Tenchi Universe makes this look like junk food and SAO look like it should've never been written.

I'm not joking. This is lazy writing. We all know why they're building the harem the way they are. Why the female characters like the guy-with-the-special-hair-and-eyes so much. Why he gets so many cool scenes where he impresses everyone (including the women) and gains their respect & affection (especially the women). It's junk. The blatant "he's mine" dialogue between Hestia and Liliruca was the moment it was clear as hell.

You know what, now's a good time to bring up the character design.
Oversexualization. Blatant as hell, and without decent reason. Sure, there are two male characters (from a single scene) who're barely wearing anything, but that's it. Hestia's skirt is rediculously short and her "members" are jello at times. Liliruca's freaking outfit is nonsense. Don't give me that "she's impovershed" excuse. How many other "impovershed" characters are wearing tattered clothes like that and never trying to replace them? Nevermind how much the camera loves showing off skin (e.g.: Ais' armor).

This is for perverts and teenagers. Nevermind the interesting plot and world they created. It's too... basic to be enjoyed. I didn't even get into the many scenes that had me rolling my eyes. To keep this short, I'll just say this: he's a somewhat better Kirito. And that's all he is. Kirito 2.0. And you know what... I wouldn't be surprised if, like SAO Abridged, Dan Machi Abridged (or "How To Be An Adventurer") is the superior version.

I finished episode 8 a few days ago and have no interest in continuing this junk. Again, though, if you're a teenager this'll probably be fine to you. You probably won't even notice the, uh, barenness of the story. Just do yourself a favor, remind yourself daily that this is fake entertainment. If you're thinking "duh", keep in mind that some people's expectations have been altered by the false god known as "Reality TV".

And I just realized something. I barely touched on the good at all. The bad's so bothersome to me that I can't even list out the good of the series. The things it does interestingly, well, and in such a way that I expect it to influence future series for the better. Why? Because it don't even matter how much nutrition is in your food when it's junk.

An other review for french peoples who love anime-planet !

Yosh !

Cordialement!

Is it wrong to pick up girls in a dungeon follows the story of Bell Cranel's journey in becoming stronger and being a hero. This takes place in the fictitious land of Orario, where inhabitants are divided by families of Gods. I want to start by saying that the English title of this anime is deceiving and that the description offered on this website was not accurate in my opinion. I think the tag “harem” should have been used as we see many girls fighting for the attention of the main character. The title is deceiving because Bell does not seem to have interest in “picking up girls”, he is more focused on his goal of becoming strong and be a hero than any potential romantic interests. It is evident that he shares deep admiration for another female adventurer and perhaps this could develop into a love story, but this is hardly the main purpose of the plot. The first few episodes were a bit boring, perhaps because they are setting the mood for the story, but the pace was actually very slow which almost made me give up on it. Around half way through this anime, it picks up very well and gets better by the minute.

I would not say that this work is original but the fight scenes were well made and the variety of characters made up for some of the weakness in this anime. This definitely has potential for a second season as well.

The animation was good, nothing in particular stood out to me other than the fighting scenes which I really enjoyed. The characters were appealing to the eye and varied significantly and consistently between one another. The sound was good as far as music tracks and voice actors.

Bell is a sweet young man with big dreams and it is hinted he had a difficult past. He is relatable because he has great sense of ethics and wants to shine, giving his honest disposition is not hard to fall in love with him. The Goddess Hestia seems like a good person but she seems infatuated with Bell. She appears supportive of Bell’s growth and helps him as much as she can. Her personality is okay, but nothing special in my opinion. Other characters play important roles, some whose stories and interactions with Bell are explored in more depth than others. I don’t believe the characters are a redeemable quality of the overall quality of this anime. I think the variety of characters used is more of a statement than the uniqueness of them all.

I think a person who enjoys actions, harem and mythology will enjoy this anime. I do not think there is much romance or an insightful story to tell.
