The Hybrid Child is an amazing android that can grow if it is lavished with enough love and care from its owner. Neither fully machine nor fully human, the various Hybrid Child models develop strong emotional bonds with their owners. This series contains several short stories of love, sacrifice, and drama: Young Kotaro learns the importance of responsibility when his Hybrid Child's lifespan runs out. The tragic swordsman Seya learns to love again with the help of his Hybrid child, Yuzu. The final tale tells the story of Kuroda, the creator of the Hybrid Child designs, and how his lost love inspired their creation. As a fan of shounen-ai I eagerly went into this anime with certain expectations ... and got something completely different. The plot is separated into three different arcs that will each touch your heart. All of the stories are rather sad and bittersweet, but incredibly moving! I loved each and every story, though the first arc was my favorite, closely followed by the third. I did like the second arc but it paled when compared to the other two. For only four episodes, where the first and second arcs are only one episode each and the third is only two episodes, you wouldn't expect there to be much character development, if any at all,  but Hybrid Child is an excellent example of when things are done right. Superb character development in a twenty minute episode is an extraordinarily hard thing to accomplish, but HC did a fabulous job at doing just that! Overall, I was pleasantly surprised by just how incredibly sweet and touching this short little anime was! Definitely worth watching!
