*This review is NOT spoiler-free, read at your own risk.*

I started this anime with too many expectations cause I saw lots of good comments before I start. I saw someone who watched all 148 episodes in 3 day -that's too much episodes for me- and I thought 'oh okay, then it will be super gripping story.' Having expectations is good, but having them too much is not.

Story: It was actually good, the advantures of a boy who wants to become a hunter in order to find his father with his assassin bestfriend. Yorknew City arc was my favourite arc, besides that, the other arcs wasn't bad or boring but actually interesting EXCEPT Chimera Ant arc. The thing I didn't like wasn't the story but the lenght of it. It is something like 60 episodes. The episodes were too slow, I dropped the anime for 2 or 3 times during the arc. But when I finally achieved the end of the arc, it was the end of the anime too.

Animation: Animation was okay, honestly I'm not the type of person who really pays attention to the animation or drawings unless it is crap. It wasn't the best but far from the worst.

Sound: Soundtracks during the episodes weren't bad. But using only 2 opening theme for the whole anime is a different level of unconcernedness for a studio. Yeah they weren't really bad, but it is the same feeling when you find a great song and listen it whole day and then you don't like it anymore. I appreciate the fact that they changed at least the ending theme.

Characters: I like the main characters. I love how Gon and Killua really act as if they are 12. They are still children and you can feel that, they are not like mature adults. That is the very thing I like the most in the whole anime. About Kurapika and Leorio, I don't know what I like about them, they just look likeable to me. And the thing I hate most was King Meruem. It's an insect, yet it starts talking about wars and other wrong things that humanity do, out of nowhere. Dude, you are an ant, an insect, you have to reproduce and increase the number of Chimera Ants and aim to take possession of the world. Oh but no, I guess mangaka thought that an insect which talking about humanity's faults'd be interesting. It's not like I don't like characters who talk about how filthy humanity is, but was it really have to be an insect?

I said few things about expectations at the start, I expected that it'd be really gripping anime but it wasn't, at least for me. It was a good story and characters after all, but its rewatch value is highly low for me, because of Chimera Ant arc.

Before i get into the review, i just wanna say that i personally think this is the greatest anime ever and everyone should watch it! So welcome to this 'biased' review.

The story revolves around a young boy named Gon setting out on a journey to become a hunter in hopes of finding his father and understanding why he chose that life-style over a family-life. So he starts his journey from the secluded town of whale-island and heads over to the hunter-exam site for his first stop on his journey to becoming a pro-hunter and we're introduced to some seriously interesting characters, some of which friends, other rivals. He makes his first friend ever named Killua. A white haired boy with a mysterious background (i won't get into it to avoid spoilers). I will tell you though, that he is seriously damaged despite being only 10yo.

And after passing the hunter exam, Gon and Killua reunite and start their journey to become stronger. This is where we are first introduced to the power/strength system of the anime. Its so detailed and its very interesting how it actually all works and how different individuals can develop/train various 'abilities' depending on personality as well. This is where i think hunterxhunter really seperates itself from anime like one piece, naruto and dragonball. Its based on aura and theres all these different techniques you have to master to use it efficiently and then you still have to grow your aura.

After powering up, they continue gon's journey together for the rest of the series. Its amazing, just watch it haha. The last two arcs are actually on another level. Its seriously so goood.

Warning! The ending is bittersweet, as the two friends serperate ways for the first time in years. I cried, and I never cry. I usually just sweat from my eyes hehe.

The animation is simply amazing. Fights are beautifully animated and the animation style really emphasises the psychological aspect of the show. MADHOUSE is always a win.

The sound is great. Particularly the songs used throughout the anime are really catchy and I would say iconic. Heads up, the two male main characters are voiced by women, but it shouldn't really bother you too much.

The characters are breathtaking, so much depth and attention is put into displaying all the aspects of the various personalities and not only their physical journey, but the mental evolution as well. Especially Killua's development I find really intriguing.
