If you like one, you're gonna like the other. The stories may be different, but some themes are similar with physical exams that the character is relatively clueless about, yet rocks the shit out of it, story from the point of view of a younger boy, and green/black, spikey/curly hair :D Seriously though, mark my first sentence. ;) enjoy!

Both are shoneon type shows with adventure and all that fun stuff but there's a lot more character development and depth to both these shows that sets them apart from other shonen anime. Hxh has more character development and depth but it's had much more shows to do so in. If you like the training and idea that an underdog can use strategy and willpower to win instead of just getting some random power up at the last second then you'd definitely like Gon and the other characters in hxh

JonnySQ JonnySQ says...

Both series encapsulate a world of people with supernatural power and their different ways of using these powers in combat. In both series, it makes the fights captivating and interesting as you watch power/fighting styles match up to each other.

Additionally both shows emphasize the using each other as a means of motivating each other and doing their best in order to get better and growing stronger together and show off a world where in order to make your mark you must be able to hone in on your skills and powers. Both shows also have a sense of lightheartedness and optimism, even in a world where darkness seems to be hitting its peak.

Both Hunter X Hunter and My Hero Academia are very action based, Along with a fair amount of fighting scenes. But overall there both about a character over coming a lot of odds when the odds are not on there side.

My Hero Academia and Hunter x Hunter are both shounen and they both have a similar MC (with Gon and Midoriya). They're also both the best out of the genre and there is a lot more in both these anime besides fighting and power-ups.

Both are really good. I like the fact that the main character fights to archive his dream with everything they have. Both are mostly about action and frendship

hunter x hunter and my hero academia have similar themes. the main characters are similar in many ways as well, such as midoriya and gon both trying their hardest to reach their goals, no matter how challenging it may be. both of the main characters also make many new friends along the way. one thing in particular that i like about both of these series is how the characters are presented. in hunter x hunter, there is a lot of character development throughout the whole series. in my hero academia, the majority of the characters have some sort of relevance towards the plot, rather than just being there to make another, more significant, individual look better and they're learning new things throughout the course of the story. in both shows, the villains are very likable which is also a plus. all in all, both of these animes are definitely a couple of my personal favorites and they're totally worth watching.

If you like My Hero Academia, you are sure to like Hunter x Hunter, at least the earlier arcs before things get noticeably darker, and vice versa. Both are feel-good action-packed shounen shows with an underdog lead.

Midoriya and Gon share many similar traits besides their wild green locks. They have a very similar personality in that they both have immense willpower and are incredibly clever. They use these traits to win their fights because unlike some other shonen anime leads, they're not OP. This also means that they can loose and get hurt, which adds quite a bit of tension to the fights. In regards to injuries, they both seem to care very little about their physical health and continue to put themselves in dangerous positions.

Both shows display darker elements wherein Hunter x Hunter explored them further having more episodes under its belt. They are presented mostly through the side characters. It adds to the complexity of the shows and the world of the anime.

really well written fight scenes that play creatively with the rules of each character's powersets, also distinctive unique character designs.

the main characters are really endearing and experience impressive power growth. The story is not the same at all but, in both animes, you will have these epic moments that will bring goosebumps. While watching HxH (specifically the Hunter Exam and Yorknew City arcs), i noticed MANY things that reminded me of MHA. I would write about every single similarity, but I think this would turn into a whole fucking essay if I did so.

Both anime take place in another universe that's slightly fantasy-related. There is an occupation that is well known, earns a lot of money and is seen as strong/heroic. In order to achieve this occupation, you need to take very difficult exams.

At around the halfway-point of HxH, we realise that the characters have their own personal powers, like quirks from MHA. Most, if not all, characters in HxH have very specific Nen abilities, such as chains, electricity, needles, super strength, taking away others' power, fortune telling, portals, creating bombs, etc. The list just goes on and on.

There are a ton of parallels between Naruto and Hunter x Hunter (2011). The main characters are determined to meet a certain goal and make friends along the way. There are characters that are similar, like Kurapika and Sasuke for example. Naruto took many influences from Hunter x Hunter (the 1999 version), so they have many similar themes and characters.

Actually, Naruto was kinda inspired by Hunter x Hunter series. If you saw them both, you know that there are some connections between those 2 series. In Naruto there are ninjas and in Hunter x Hunter there are hunters. Main characters and their friends in both series are similiar somehow. However, main stories are really different but still awesome and extremaly interesting. I recommend Hunter x Hunter for everyone who watched Naruto and liked it, as also I recommend Naruto for people who enjoyed Hunter x Hunter.

Hmmm, lets say that Naruto is way worst than Hunter Hunter (Dont take it personally Naruto Fans), why you ask well at first naruto has a back story but its pretty much empty, secondly if i or maybe you take the jokes funny or not like me because its so bland and pretty much a classic.

But either way Naruto is on par because it has UNIQUE moves, Amazing Designs, UNIQUE charaters, Story line is good and thoughts on the personality and how they kept it. :D

Either way its both good and you an disagree with me but in my opinion its on par.

Dargon Ball and Hunter x Hunter share similar themes to a previous recommendation I made to "Pokemon". Goku (Dragon Ball) and Gon (Hunter x Hunter) are both young men that set out on an adventure in search for action and the solution to a noble cause. In both anime, they meet friends and enemies along the way. Tons of characters and creatures to learn about and connect to as you watch either shounen anime.

Anathemus Anathemus says...

Altough the plot is farely different, the universe of DBZ and HxH are quite similar, Gon and Goku, the main characters also look alike in personality.

Justaway Justaway says...

Both are about naive, easy-going young boys who set out in the world to find something (DB = The Dragon Balls, HxH = Gon's father). Both have action, comedy and a great cast.

Dauntes Dauntes says...

One of the things I look for in animes is the sense of adventure. Dragon Ball and Hunter x Hunter (1999 & 2011) both got me sensing this in every episode.

Beyond that I believe Gon and young Goku have many many simularities. They will make you lol and their bumbkin manerisms and eternal optimism will endear them to you instantly.

Hunter x Hunter (2011) is my favorite shonen anime ever watched, by far. And Goku, from Dragon Ball, is arguably the best young shonen character. At the moment he is setting the bar imo.

Give it a watch, it won't disapoint.

Synthwaver Synthwaver says...

Dragon Ball and HunterXHunter are some of the best shounen ever created about talented powerful young boys with good willing spirits fighting their way to the top and making friends along the way until themselves become the very best. There's an incredible resemblance between the relationship of Goku/Krilin and Gon/Killua.

miko miko says...

as this could be applied to also any dragon ball, there's no way to argue with this mash up, as these two are based off of two boys trying to be the best they can be.  even those the other dragon balls would be in the adult variety, they would still fit into this situation, in my opinion.

Well lets ut this simply:

The Main characters, Gon and Goku, are both incredibly strong. They have the purest of hearts, the biggest of appetites, and the smallest of brains.

The fighting is very different, as you wont see as much screaming in hunter X hunter. but none the less they are still the same in terms of how awesome they can be. Ranging from long and epic, to short and expected.

The strength levels: Now one thing way different about hunter x hunter is the main character (Gon) is weaker than the villains. And his transformation requires a large buildup of rage and nen, which he is then sacrificing his life just to get lets say x3 stronger. Dragon bal Z? No, they can turn super saiyan without moving a muscle

They are overall very similar, but can be different.

Yu Yu Hakusho. Hunter x Hunter. Both these shows were made by the same creator, Yoshihiro Togashi. Both shows are also great action/adventure shows and both have qualities that make them unique. While Yusuke, the protagonist in Yu Yu Hakusho is a badass delinquent Gon, the protagonist of Hunter x Hunter is a hardworking good-natured boy. Both protagonist show strong love and conpassion for the people they care about most. Both series also have 4 male leads. While Yu Yu Hakusho is about being a Spirit Detective and Hunter x Hunter is about being a Hunter both series highly focus on tournament like events and both series have the same "feel" to them if you have seen both. Overall, these two shows are a perfect compliment to each other and Yoshihiro Togashi really outdid himself in both of these works.

The only thing is that Yu Yu Hakusho is a bit more on the mature side as it has a lot more blood, gore, and death while just about no one dies in Hunter x Hunter.

trinity873 trinity873 says...

For one thing, same original author, that guy is pure genius. i Wouldnt say they give the same feel, but i would say that The type of entertainment and awesomeness is th same from both animes. You see an awesome scene in one of them, there is going to be an equally as awesome scene in the other

They have so much stuff in common but one of the main differences is Hunter x Hunter (2011) has hunters while Yu Yu Hakusho is youkai world.

All of the MC are really similar , Gon and Yusuke have similar hairstyle and love to fight. Even their parents are same. Kurapika > Kurama , Hiei > Killua and Kuwabara > Leorio. But what would you expect when both titles are from same creator?

Lots of action , Tactics and both have tournament arcs.

Yu Yu Hakusho may have romance but Hunter x Hunter (2011) doesn't have any. Also both are heavely focused on friendship. HxH (2011) have less comedy than YYH.

Protags (Gon and Bam) are both naturally OP and weirdly innocent and embark on this journey with the single goal of finding someone they loved and lost (Ging/Rachel). Best friend characters Killua and Khun are similar in that before meeting the protag, they had no friends and craved love. They soon became fiercely loyal to the protags. More importantly, both animes are fantastic and you should watch them.

These are both enjoyable series with comedy and action.

Along with lovable side characters.

shiishki shiishki says...

They both introduce their own power systems and use them for fights. HunterxHunter may not be as Supernatural or more Horror-like like Jujutsu Kaisen but if you enjoyed one, you should definitely give the other a chance.

Darkangel9042 Darkangel9042 says...

because they both are very similar and focus on power which everybody has but only a few can only master it and above that, they both are one hell of a masterpiece. And one thing if you have watched it you're gonna regret it

CosmicDeven CosmicDeven says...

Both have overpowered white hair characters that are incredibly badass. Killua and Gojo are fan favorites. Both are solid shonen animes and if you like one, you'll probably like the other.

notawaffle notawaffle says...

they have a very similar premise, not at the beginning but abilities wise there is a wide range and the jujutsu really reminded me of the nen usage in hxh when i was watching JJK. There are also creatures, the monsters that the jujutsu sorcerers have to exorcise are similar to the chimera ants.

Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood

Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood

The foundation of alchemy is based on the law of equivalent exchange; you cannot produce something from nothing. As such, alchemy is bound by one taboo - human transmutation. Four years ago two young brothers, Edward and Alphonse Elric, broke this taboo when they tried to resurrect their dead mother. During the process Al's body disintegrated and Ed lost his leg. In a desperate attempt to prevent his brother from disappearing completely, Ed sacrificed one of his arms so he could affix Al's soul to a suit of armor. When his missing limbs are replaced by auto mail parts, Ed bears the name of the Fullmetal Alchemist - the youngest ever State Alchemist and dog of the military. Now, alongside his brother, Ed uses his status within the military to attempt to find any way that he can return their bodies back to their original state.

I can't help it but find these two very similar , both are remakes and full of tactics.

Even both mc has difficult relationship with their father and are really awesome action shounen.

Though FMA:B focuses more on storyline but Hunter x Hunter (2011) instead has more action & more friendship oriented.

FMA:B is great and although there aren’t any particularly strong similarities between both shows they both have a strong plot, great character development, and awesome abilities. And if you’re looking for something to watch after HxH then you should definitely try out this anime.
