Had this been a stand alone series, I would have said not bad but not really great either. However, this follows 3 very good seasons, and cast in that light, it was horrible. The characters new personalities were cheap slapstick knockoffs of the originals. The new animation style was good but didn't fit the series. The storyline had little cohesion and was well below the standard set by the previous 3 seasons. All togehter it simply doesn't live up to the previous seasons
Really after watching the last 3 seasons, I had really high hopes for this season. The story-line for this anime lives off of a good, well-thoughtout story that deals with the house of Germory, that thrives off Issei's obsession towards boobs. But this season looks like a joke, as if it's a cartoon. Nothing like the other 3 seasons which I enjoyed every episode of. I'm on episode 3 of this season and they really don't need a season 5 because not only are Rias and Akaeno seniors and will be graduating, we are losing our King(President) and queen. The club really wouldn't be the same, and the storyline is messy. Overall, just not a good season, should have stopped at season 3.
The 4th season was produced by a different studio because the original writer felt that the studio that produced the first 3 seasons was not following the story strictly enough. You will certainly notice the difference in art style from the first moment of the season, but I actually really liked the new art style and colors. Overall I felt that the story carried on well from the 3rd season despite having to bridge the creative gap between seasons with a few flashbacks at the beginning. The 3rd season was a little bit of a mess in my opinion, but the 4th season carries on the essence of this show really well. If you've watched the show up to this point, I think you won't be disappointed by the direction this season takes. This season has good plot progression and leads really well into a potential 5th season, although I haven't heard any definitive info about whether that will happen yet.
