Another solid show wraps up this season, High card (thankfully a small name) is a decent show that lucky for the fans quickly announced a second season at the end. Now onto the show the animation.... works its not bad but it didnt really wow. the sound was mediocre so thats pretty par for the course. the characters are a frustrating they are almost ALL coined characters and the 50/50s are very annoying most of time which isnt a good thing. the story is all over the place becasue the MC really doesnt have one but instead the world just drags him into doing this instead of him driving the story forward. Yes the shows got some issues which makes it difficult to reccomend, still give it the old 3/4 episode watch if your tired of the kpop style characters or the lack of coherent story then drop it, it really doesnt improve the problems just sweeps them under the rug for other ones. thats it for the quick review, now to the more detailed spoiler free reivew
alright the animation yeah there isnt much say, its consistent but not eye poping.
the sound is the same thing but thats normal
Now to the characters, yes the 2 sided characters are all over and the only ones that break that rule here are 1 dimensional(butler and mfaia boss lvl 100). The bright colored playboy is a passive liar but loves his sister(girls dont trust a guy like this), the great-valued 2% "street kid" is just a sweet orphaned boy, the hooker dressed party girl is just looking for the right man and just wants love someone(guys do not trust a girl like this ). the list goes on and on for the enitre cast which once you notice it is impossible to unsee.
the story again doesnt exsit for the protagonist(At least not pending any spoilers), so there are only 2 story lines one is a simple race to the end of the rainbow(collect all the magical poker cards) and the other one isnt even alluded to until later. Which leads me into the next problem, a BUNCH of people die not characters to the story oh no that would imply consequences that type of story telling is becoming less and less common making the destruction porn and conficlt more grand and less meaningful for the whole run time. especially considereing theres is a telekinetic psycho who has zero remorse just lets people live because ... she just wasnt feeling violence on that one particular person? not great
I dont reccomend this one, theres better shows to watch in this soft modern fantasy style. That wraps up this one if you do watch high card i hope you enjoy for everyone who made it this far thanks for the read and have a good one!
After seeing the "Gambling" tag, if you are expecting some intense card games like the ones in Kakegurui, you are wrong.
First of all, this anime is action based. So, they are not gambling for money but gambling with their lives. They use cards to collect cards and collect cards to stay alive.
Characters designs are cool and fight scenes are pleasing. I'm writing this review without actually finishing the series but I guess I know where this is going.
The only thing that I find unsatisfactory is that the main character is weak, at least up until episode 7. In High Card, every card has its own power. And the most dull power is possessed by our dear main character.
Overall, give it a chance, it deserves it. It may not be your cup of tea, but I found it fulfilling enough.
MILD SPOILERS, READ AT YOUR OWN RISK....
This is so good!!! I literaly fininshed it in 4 days, I would have fininshed it in 2 or 1 days but me have to school sooooo..👉👈
anyways onto the review, so when I started watching High card, at the begining of the first episode it kinda reminded me of the art of scoobydoo (。· v ·。) dk why but yeah, that kinda intrigued me, any way it was so different from my expectations but at the same time it was a bit of cliche anime about how Fin has a traumatic past about that his parents were killed in a fire and that and Chris has only one family left to take care of and whatnot, one funny thing about the anime I found that literally Fin's full name is FIN OLDMAN like really, it's so funny to me like indirectly u are callin him an old man 😂. This anime has the tag gambling to it, but yk they do play cards in the anime but yk in a different way, they don't gamble with money they gamble with fricken lives, The last episdoes, Fin literaly gambaled Chris life like wth or not.
Any a good watch definately watchin season 2.
Unfortunately that was kinda below my expectations, I was hyped when they first announced it , I anticipated for some time but I'm just disappointed, the just got I really good intro with some action and mystery moments but after that you gonna feel this show is missing something , it had really good potential but they just ruined but rushing the story and the plot itself can be really superficial like no deep scenario, for example this happened because of that period . Atleast try to make it more interesting , it has some good moment or emotional ones but that was for short time besides that sometimes I feel they just missed the point of anime and they ended talking about other thing that has no connection with the story , and the ending was really avreage with a short cutscene at the end to add more thriller but I guess it is what it is , let's wait for the second season and hope they gonna fill the story with some interesting stuff .
The story seems pretty basic, considering it just the chaacters collecting playing cards. But, Magic Playing cards. The Protag Finn is fun to watch and each character feel fresh and fun. The magic card gimic is fun to watch and the animation is beautiful!
