In both of these anime, a group of high school friends gets involved with strange powers, like bodyswitching and wishes coming true. Kokoro Connect is more dramatic, and Hentai Ouji more comedic, but if you like the "high school drama with a twist" setting of one show, you might like the other.

silentsam84 silentsam84 says...

Strange mystical things causes the cast to rethink their relationships.  Also, a lot of comic happenings result with a lot of heart mixed in.  Both shows have a very simular feel and if you like one then you will like the other.

YuiYui YuiYui says...

Well they both are about high school students who somehow get involved with supernatural things. However I think Kokoro Connect is more about the drama compared to HENNEKO but I still think that these two animes are pretty similar and if you liked one you should like the other!

If you liked Yahari Ore no Seishun Love Come wa Machigatteiru or Hentai Ouji to Warawanai Neko then there's a good chance that you would like the other. Both of them are harem-type animes with a lot of humor thrown in. They also focus on only a couple of girls so it's easier to keep track of them. The MC in both is an outcast of sorts, who doesn't have top notch social skills (a pervert in one and an anti-social kid in the other). Despite that they end up having to help people and make new friends along the way.

ndesi62 ndesi62 says...

Both are refreshing, modern stories that have a very similar sense of humor and make damn good use of it. Moreover, the emotions they explore are very similar. Both are about anxious teenagers trying to get around their social facades so that they can be themselves, express their identities, and express their respective romantic feelings. Oregairu gets deeper into the philosophy and emotions, however despite supposedly being ecchi Henneko also manages to pack a good emotional punch. If you like one you will definitely like the other, although fans of Oregairu migrating to Henneko will have to give some leeway for fan service.

Now, amidst helping various cats with mundane and trivial issues, Kousaka must try to dispel the jinx and attempt to salvage his self-respect – not to mention his love life - along the way.

"Nyan Koi" shares the same premise, young boy geting involved with a cat statue resulting in obtaining supernatural abilities. In Nyan Koi the male lead need to help out 100 cats in trouble to get rid of the curse. Of course he also has to juggle his huge harem. While "Hentai Ouji to Warawanai Neko" has bit more moe and fanservice, "Nyan Koi" focuses more on the comedy aspect.

These two are definitely similar in story and in light comedic atmosphere. A cat god statue, strange curses, and a harem of girls surrounding the main male character make up the substance of the plot. If you like one, check out the other.

the style of the animation and the perfect mix of comedy and seriousness in these two are obvious.

lualdu lualdu says...

These two anime actually aren't all that similar, but the Female protagonist in HENNEKO and Sakurasou are extremely alike both are almost completely expressionless (although the one in HENNEKO literally is) and, overall HENNEKO has a much lighter mood throughout the series but it still has a very similar feel including animation style. So for the few of you that actually care how it looks, they're made by the same company so the characters feel VERY similar. So for those of you that like a show that makes you laugh (and has a few tear jerkers) I highly recommend that you watch either of these shows.

My Mental Choices are Completely Interfering with my School Romantic Comedy

My Mental Choices are Completely Interfering with my School Romantic Comedy

Good-looking Kanade Amakusa would prefer nothing more than to have a normal high school life. But due to his "Absolute Choice", a mental curse compelling him to decide between two outrageous options such as sniffing a smutty magazine on the ground versus eating it in public, everyone thinks he’s a total weirdo! One day, the boy chooses that a beautiful girl will fall from the sky, and much to his surprise, his choice becomes reality! Her name is Chocolat, and she’s come with a message: God will strike a deal with Kanade in the form of missions that might just cure his suffering. Sounds trouble-free enough compared to what he’s already gone through - except they’re on a whole other level of extreme craziness than the choices he already makes daily! Can Kanade successfully clear these outrageous challenges, or will he be forever rejected by his classmates and remain an outcast?!

So to start off both are comedy, school life and slice of life about a boy and a bunch of girls. Both main characters get involved in some wierd magical/fantasy thing and end up involving the people around them (who are mostly girls anyway)...so in conclusion if you like My Mental Choices you should like HENNEKO and the other way round.

AardvarkRex AardvarkRex says...

Both are quirky ecchi harem comedies with a wacky premise and a similar overall vibe. In both a god is giving the chars a hard time by forcing them into bothersome and often socially inappropriate situations, which they then have to overcome without embarassing themselves too much. Lots of fanservice and semi-random weirdness in both but Henneko also has some serious/dramatic episodes as well.

They both look very similar and have a way with Magic, both are very strong on comedy too. The main guy is a pervert and theres a cute and quiet girl, both of which Rurumo and Henneko have. I see a huge amount of similarities, and i reccomend watching both of them if you enjoy either of them.

Stoic female, perverted male and supernatural happenings. Both shows do indeed seem very similar. As someone who enjoyed both, I can vouch for this recommendation.

Both of these romance anime are about a wish-granting tree/cat, with brownhaired and blonde girls central to the plot. As the male protagonist becomes involved in wishes, he meets even more girls as they, too, fall in love with the guy. However, while most of the time the characters are quite carefree, the plot always thickens whenever the wishing cat/sakura goes out of control, causing problems for the cast.

Karin

Karin

Karin is a vampire, but as fate would have it she is a freak among her own kind; for Karin doesn’t drink the blood of her counterparts – she is cursed to be a blood maker, forcing her to inject her extra blood into her victims. In Karin's twisted day-going state, she finds it nearly impossible to find safe victims; so, nose bleeds are a major problem. When transfer student and new classmate Usui Kenta proves to have exactly the kind of emotions her vampire nature most enjoys, she finds herself in comedic dire straights!

I feel that anyone who watches this anime will enjoy Karin, I found much of the relationship between two of the main characters to be the same. I feel that sharing the similarities of a young love with mystical powers being factored into the equation make these two anime similar in their outlook.

Hyouka

Hyouka

"If I don't have to do it, I won't. If I do have to do it, make it quick," is the basic principle by which energy conservationist Houtarou Oreki lives. But after his sister convinces him to join the Classics Club, Houtarou's life is turned upside down when he meets Chitanda, a perpetually-inquisitive girl who challenges the boy's easygoing existence. Intrigued by the slightest hint of a mystery afoot, Chitanda doesn't hesitate to pester the reluctant yet highly analytical Houtarou into satisfying her curiosity at every turn, no matter how small the problem. Alongside fellow members Satoshi and Ibara, the group tackles cases ranging from a self-locking classroom door, a strangely-popular library book, and even the shadowy history of the very club to which they belong!

Epimondas Epimondas says...

The basic story between Hennko and Haruhi are very similar.  The neko statue and/or those who use it's power are on par with Haruhi's supposed but unsubstantiated power and especially Yuki's if not more powerful and even with more immediate effect.  The style of animation is not all that different either nor the opening or closing songs.  Both stories take place in a high school but not the most elite one or the most centered in a large population area.  Tsukushi is similarily as pushy, bossy, arrogant, tomboyish, and demanding as Haruhi.  So effectively at least 2 of not 3 or more characters share a lot of similarities.  Itsuki and Ponza might be similar characters or if nothing else serve similar roles within their respective animes.  Mikuru and Azusa might also be quite similar in character.  Tsukiko is alot like Yuki Nagato even down to nearly the same size, stature, cuteness, look, and personality.
