WTF?

Introduction:

In this review i will conclude both the manga and the OVA series, because they have they are basically the same in plot. I don't want to waste my time writing two reviews. I will write another review for the first anime series, because of the original story. In short, Hellsing is about the Catholic church, vampires and Nazis, fighting over their own interests. Sounds like a typical plot for an anime.

Plot:

The story makes no sense. What started out as an interesting concept, ended with such disappoinments. Like in the manga and in both animes, the beginning plot is interesting enough in keeping you watching and wanting more. The first episode, or rather, the first chapter, introduces you to the main chracters right away. Sir Hellsing is a woman, who leads the vampire-hunting organization with an iron hand, Alucard is a badass, gun-kicking killer, who, due to his immortality and presumely near invunerability, likes to show off in front off his enemies in an open field and be massacrated. Every goddamn time. Just so he can show, what kind of badass he is. After that, he kills all his enemies. Without any explanation, his many powers, unknown to the audince, just pop out in next fight. Think the enemy is to strong? How wrong you are! Despite being impaled, cut off multiple times, he just regenerates and releases many of his forms, as if he needs rage and his own seeping blood, just so he can unlock his own powers.

The plot stars tipically slow-paced, with a focus on lesser important villians, who happen to be part of something much bigger evil. The Valentine brothers were annoying and completely unnecessery, just a bunch of fools walking into a death trap. Why is every villian in Hellsing like that? Each one of them grins like an idiot, confronts Alucard like he's some small fry and then, later, scream after seeing his true form. Just like the hermafroditic angel in Kuroshitsuji. Yes, the grinning, my GOD, what with all this grinning? Everyone is DOOING IT( Just do it!), and the only normal smile we get are from the police girl named Seras Victoria and Alucard in his form as Vlad Tepes, AKA his true from. It was a nice change, I guess?, but it didn't affect me in any positive way. Like, it's supposed to be cool, with them all smiling like that, and to put emphasis on their characters. Basically, everybody is nuts in his own way , suffers from some kind-of-like psychosis and thinks that he/she is a badass (which they are, until Vlad gets them).

Media:

The anime and the manga are both boring, mediocore. In the manga, the first 30 chapters are good enough and in the first anime, it's till the 5th episode. In the second anime it's till the 4th OVA episode. The plot starts getting downhole with the introduction of Nazis. They're are small group, remnants from WWII and for unexplained reason, want to raid London. Oh,ok, but why London and not Russia? The author prolong the whole manga from this point till the end of the manga. SO, what starts off with investigations quickly kicks into a overlong plot of Nazis on their way to destroy the capital of Britain and then leaves the fight between Alucard, the Nazis and the Vatican for the very end. It made me furious to have read 40 chapters that were just concetrating on the conversation between the Nazi villians and their unseemengly long journey to London. The other part of the plot was the fight between Alucard and Rip van Winkle. Poor woman, she got devoured alive by him.

The characters have forced personalities. Alucard knows no fear and loves bringing his enemies down to their knees, while Integra is a ruthless and coldhearted leader of the Hellsing organization. So, by the end of the manga, they are supposed to have the hots for each other? There is no romantic development throught he manga whatsoever. All I saw was a typical relaionship between a msster and its servant. He never shows any interest in her and all Integra has showed was her disconcern before he went to fight the Paladin. I think the romance was thrown just for the sake of it. And her butler, Walter, I still don't get it why he had betrayed them. I'm suprised that nobody hasn't shot the short, fat, Nazi idiot before. Father Anderson is Vatican's counterpart to Hellsing's Alucard, ... The Paladin was a baddass in his own right, at first I though that he was gonna be a stereotypical hardrinking and smoking priest. And Enrico Maxwell, he's screwed the Vatican because he had an infeority complex. Now THAT was selfish.

The soundtrack was watered down, typical music you see in every action movie/anime. It was only slithy dynamic, just to fit into the story. The art was gorgeus, they made a great job of imitating the autor's drawing style. I like it how the characters hair and eyes were detailed, and oh man, the vampires teeth before they had bitten their prey.

Overall:

To conclude this review, I would like to say that Hellsing is a missed case. What started as a intriguing story quickly turned into a huge mess. It had lots of plot holes, many villians were unnecesseray and the final chapter was too short. Only read/watch this if you're into hardcore fighting and don0t mind seeing invincible vampires show off their skills.

"Hellsing Ultimate" takes the vampire-hunting action of the original "Hellsing" series and amplifies it to the extreme. Here's my review, breaking it down by different aspects:

Story (8/10): "Hellsing Ultimate" follows the same premise as its predecessor, with the Hellsing Organization fighting supernatural threats, primarily vampires and ghouls. However, this adaptation sticks much closer to the source material, the manga, and delivers a more coherent and faithful narrative. It explores the same dark and complex themes of morality, good vs. evil, and the consequences of immortality, but with greater depth and consistency.

Animation (9/10): The animation quality in "Hellsing Ultimate" is a significant improvement over the original series. The character designs are detailed, and the action sequences are nothing short of spectacular. The series doesn't shy away from visceral and intense combat scenes, which are brilliantly choreographed and visually stunning. The animation brings out the gothic and brutal nature of the story.

Sound (8/10): Similar to the original series, "Hellsing Ultimate" boasts an atmospheric soundtrack that enhances the dark and supernatural themes. The opening and ending themes set the tone effectively. Voice acting, particularly in the English dub, is remarkable, with Crispin Freeman reprising his role as Alucard and delivering a memorable performance. The voice cast as a whole adds depth and personality to the characters.

Characters (7/10): The characters, including the iconic Alucard and Sir Integra Hellsing, continue to be the highlights of the series. Alucard's enigmatic and powerful presence is even more pronounced in this adaptation, and his complex character is further explored. While some secondary characters receive more development, others still feel somewhat underutilized. However, the villains remain suitably menacing and intriguing.

Overall (7/10): "Hellsing Ultimate" is a faithful adaptation of the original manga and offers a superior viewing experience compared to the original series. The story is more coherent and engaging, the animation is top-notch, and the sound design contributes to the eerie atmosphere. The characters, especially Alucard and Sir Integra, shine in their respective roles. Overall, I'd rate it 7/10, making it a must-watch for fans of the supernatural action genre. If you enjoyed the original "Hellsing," this adaptation is a definitive and satisfying version of the story that stays true to its dark and gothic roots.
