Story: 8/10
The story at first sounds really generic. Small town, childhood friend who happens to live next door and is well endowed, and a mysterious "angel" falling from the sky. Yeah, so it is generic BUT throughout the series, the story gains more depth and eventually becomes interesting and enthralling. As a reader of the manga, the plot follows it to the dot and the pacing is also quite similar. Sometimes it does feel slightly rushed but keep in mind they are trying to condense about 5 volumes of manga into 13 episodes. The more you delve into the universe the more interesting it gets.
Animation: 9/10
One word :wow
The animation in this series is flawless. The quality of the animation is simply amazing and this anime isnt even based on action. Animation is smooth and consistent throughout the whole series and camera angles are interesting and dynamic enough to add realism in dialouge. In every scene there is something moving and in most cases it is multiple objects (i.e consistant blinking, arm gestures etc). The bigger scenes that incompass massive explosions and giant crap are also done very nicely. Also, there are always different animations for the credits so there is more new animation packed in every episode.
Sound: 7/10
Im not a real expert at sound but there is nothing wrong with the sound in my opinion. Ambience sound are consistant and sound realistic. The voice actors were nicely chosen and all act out their respective characters well. I've heard people say that Tomoko's voice (the protagonist) is annoying but i've had no problem with it. Maybe i'm just tolerant?
Since there is always a different credit theme, it means different songs. WOW. Some of them are just plain silly and some are strangely addictive. Also watch out for ep 10, two great songs.
Characters: 8/10
The character designs are nice and certainly live up to the generic ecchi anime standards. With this in mind however there really isn't anything ground breaking when it comes to the characters. Still though, like the plot line there is more than enough character development to keep the series interesting.
Overall: 8/10
An anime that probably has the highest production value of the season (and dare i say the year), a deep plot and truckloads of humour, this anime cannot be missed. Seemingly neglescted due to its appearance as a "generic", this anime is anything but. A must watch
Sora No Otoshimono (being released by FUNImatin as "Heaven's Lost Property") is an ecchi series that has one purpose and one purpose only -- to entertain the audience with bouncing boobies and panty shots. Just like every other ecchi series. But, oh, does it have its moments of brilliance.
Tomoki dreams of a life of peace and quiet. However, he had a hard time getting that with a neighbor who karate chops him when he expresses his perverted thoughts, a student body president with a sadistic streak, and a club president who is possibly a bigger pervert than he is. One day, while waiting for the others to show up under a tree he gets a call to get out of the area, and finds himself face to face with a big breasted (of course) Angeloid named Ikarus who has fallen out of the sky. Now Tomoki's peace and quiet has been broken since he is now imprinted onto the angeloid as her master and his attempts to keep her under wraps.
STORY -- The series itself has some amusing moments -- you wouldn't think an episode about flying panties would be that funny. Going into it you have to realize that the show doesn't take itself that seriously at all. Although there are some decent action scenes (and some sad scenes with the Angeloids and their backstory), the comedy should be what makes this show. It's kind of hit and miss, but it's never really boring to watch.
ANIMATION -- The battle scenes are very well animated. But you often forget what Tomoki looks like in his normal form since they seem to like to keep him as a "chibi" through most of the show.
SOUND -- Have some decent voice acting, and the changing ending themes is a welcome change from most shows. The opening song is pretty good, but the "boing" sound when boobs bounce can get annoying, if only because of how many opther animes you've seen it in (unless that's the point?)
CHARACTERS -- You've got some likable characters in the mix, like Tomoki and Ikarus. Others are hard to like, like New World Discovery club president Sukara -- he's supposed to be a bigger pervert, but he seems to hide it rather well in the episodes I've seen.
OVERALL -- Worth checking out if you're into ecchi type series. Just don't take it too seriously.
Sora no Otoshimo... This is the first time I've ever seen an anime that revolved around 1 perverted guy who suddenly is blessed with not 1, but 2 ANGELS!!! Honestly, this idea struck me like a boulder! Plus, the characters in the story were pretty unique, to tell the truth. Not like one of those animes that contains parodies in every 2 minutes of clips, like Sayonara Zetsubou Sensei (it's still pretty funny though). However, it seems as if the anime doesn't completely end the story on the last episode though! Like:
Anyhow, I'd recommend this anime for anyone who's into ecchi, and random ideas that float around in this anime.
Also, I'm hoping for an OVA, since there's only so little to close on this anime. :)
This is my first review that I've ever written, so it may seem a little biased... Anyways, it's yours to judge if you want to venture into watching this anime or not...
This show tries to be too much at once. Mostly, it tries to be a trendsetter. And yes, while some of the charcters such as Nymph and Ikaros are awesome, so many of the others are just..... They're some of the worst I've ever come across. The show tries so hard to be the next Highschool DxD or the next To Love-Ru. But what it fails to realize is that those animes were successful not just because of the fanservice, but because there were likable charcters to go back to in them. SnO does not have that. Tomoki isn't Issei, and Ikaros isn't Lala Satalin Deviluke. Again, Ikaros is a good charcter, but they try way to hard to make her an awkward alien-type character that they leave out any true personality traits. And while Issei is a perv, Tomoki goes way too far way too often, and the show's attempts to make his pervertedness funny just comes off as gross. While I will admit that the series made me laugh at a few points, and the fanservice is sometimes nice, it's not enough to save this cookie-cutter wannabe with no real purpose or true likability behind it. For me, at least.
Sora no Otoshimono is definately an anime I would suggest
to anyone looking for something good to watch. The characters are
easily lovable to me, especially the characteristics and
personalities of the Angeloids.
The plot was decent, but was strayed from a lot. Mostly
focusing on the daily life of the Angeloids adjusting to the human
world and not the impending trouble; The perverted-ness got a
little out of hand in some episodes as well. Even though it was a
bit out of hand, it was still great as for the comedy of it (which
was mostly the intention). It could've definately had more battle
scenes. (which I really hoped they would've. They were awesome.)
But overall, the anime came together quite great even with some of
the things that could've been enhanced. They did a great job
pregressing into the moods and building the suspense working up
into a harem. You could feel the tension between the group, and
sometimes feel their hearts break from jealousy or any other mood
that hits them. You feel like a part of it.
My favorite thing about this anime is the comedy style.
Whether it be perverted, ordinary things, references to other
animes, or just the plain adorableness and ignorance of the
characters at times. By the way, totally caught the reference to
the anime 'Ouran High School Host Club' in episode 9. Loved it! But my all time favorite thing about this anime is Ikaros. Her
ignorance of the human world and how she acts in general as she
tries to adapt is just plain adorable and funny. She is definately
my favorite character, and I'd find it hard for someone to say
they didn't like her. (plus she's pretty badass in a fight.)
I give this anime 4.5 out of 5 stars. It would've been 5
altogether, but some episodes dub it worthy to lose .5 from my
rating; mainly episode 2. I just found this episode to be quite
odd because of the whole 'flying panties' thing that seemed to be
the craze for some odd reason...and don't forget the Panty Robot.
This episode seems like drugs were involved in it's creation, and
I wasn't exactly a fan of this particular episode. But other than
that element, I would give this the 5 stars it deserves.
