Japan has reclaimed its former glory under the guidance of Kings, charismatic individuals wielding incredible powers. But now, one of the Red King's vassals has been murdered, and a viral video shows the killer's confession at the scene. He is one Yashiro Isana, claiming to be the Colorless King; and he is now a wanted man - not only to the Red King's faction, but also the Blues charged with keeping the peace. He is even sought by Kuroh Yatogami, a knight of the former Colorless King sworn to slay any unworthy successor. Only, the subject of their struggle, "Shiro", is a nondescript young man living an unremarkable life in an island academy, and seems to have no recollection of killing anyone. To keep his life, Shiro must prove his innocence; but what is the truth behind his mysterious past, and what will be the outcome of this confrontation of Kings?

Same beautiful art style, directing and color filter. Also has similar use of magic. The computer graphics as well as the band drawn art blend very well together. Camera angles are phenomenal.

The style and background of Hand Shakers is similar to K. They are both very good Shoujo anime too. The background in Hand Shakers and K are very similar because they both look very brand new. They are also action-packed and have a focus on white haired characters.

These have fairly different backgrounds, but Karas is another style-over-substance, action-packed series with bad CG (not nearly as bad as Hand Shakers). If you liked the action elements then Karas will work for you, and it's better anyways.

While they don't share much in common storywise, neither Handshaker or Karas give a shit about their plots. Both shows use the story as a way to string together their highly stylized action sequences. Both shows have some really dodgy CG. Karas is the better of the shows with it's action actually being stylish and its CG having the excuse of being dated. On the other hand Handshakers' "stylish" action is likely just going to leave you with a mild case of nausea that will not be eased by the uncanny valley of the breast physics.

Pandora Hearts

Pandora Hearts

On the eve of nobleman Oz Bezarius's fifteenth birthday, he and his loved ones gather to celebrate in a coming-of-age ceremony. But after Oz steps under a long-stopped clock and the hands finally move once more - thus fulfilling a mysterious prophecy - he is violently thrown into the legendary prison known as the Abyss by three cloaked intruders. Existing in another dimension, the Abyss is home to lifeforms born within its walls known as Chains; these beings can only live in the real world if they make contracts with humans, binding their power to the person's body. However, there's a catch - in time, the human will be overcome by the Chain's power and then thrown into the deepest level of the Abyss. When Oz wakes up in the Abyss he is quickly attacked by hungry Chains, only to be saved by one named Alice - a Chain who appeared just before he was thrown into the prison. Together, the two make a contract and return to the real world, where they are enlisted into the Pandora organization - a group researching both the Abyss and the trio that threw Oz into it.  Along with members of Pandora, the duo searches to find Alice's lost memory fragments that are scattered throughout the world, to discover the secrets of the Abyss, and to determine if there's a way their contract can be broken without killing either Oz or Alice.

I've admittedly not fully finished either of these, but both have convoluted, fantastical stories filled with chains and action, and for whatever reason I think they have a similar feel. Luckily Pandora Hearts has much better animation.

If you were intrigued by Hand Shakers surreal art style, but want to watch something that is easier on the eyes and executed better, I’d recommend checking out Gankutsuou.  It still has a somewhat surreal style but is much easier on the eyes and has a better overall story and presentation.
