K-On!

K-On!

It's the first day of high school, and plenty of school clubs are doing their best to recruit new members, but for ditzy Yui, none of them seem to fit the bill. However, when she accidentally signs up to join the light music club, Yui begins a hilarious adventure to become a world class guitarist! There's just one problem: she's never played the guitar before in her life! Joined by bassist Mio, drummer Ritsu and keyboardist Tsumugi, Yui and the gang will juggle their studies with buying instruments, learning how to read music and even performing in the school festival, all in the hopes of someday becoming a successful band!

Both shows have similar style of drawing, both are school-girls-centric and both focus on a cultural activity, good for people who like to watch anime about school clubs and hobbies. Music and dancing are close enough to reckon people would enjoy watching both.

Cute anime girls in a club that revolves around the preforming arts? Young, if not slightly immature teachers? Yuri subtext? Check, check, and check! If you like one of these moe titles, you'll without a doubt want to try out the other. Both anime feature passionate and cute girls as they learn a new skill with their friends. Both have really, really good animation and catchy music. Definitely try one of you like the other.

Encouragement of Climb

Encouragement of Climb

Aoi's childhood dream of climbing the tallest mountains in the world was destroyed when the girl fell off a jungle gym, developing a crippling fear of heights in the process. Now in high school, the teen enjoys more mundane activities like knitting and sitting quietly, and has absolutely no interest in risking her life in the wilderness. But Aoi's sheltered life is shattered with the reappearance of Hinata, her boisterous childhood friend who's determined to pull the girl out of her shell and scale some mountains! Together, the two learn about climbing gear and try to face their fears, all while becoming the best of friends!

Shy female lead and her energetic friend doing some sort of hobby that's uncommon in an anime. The friend is more experienced in the hobby than the beginner lead. Both are very cute shows that act sort of as a how-to guide for getting into either hiking or yosakoi. They take the characters and the viewer through all the steps of starting their new hobby, from the first shopping trip to actually hiking/dancing. Both shows also show a progression of the girls' friendship. If you likee Yama no Susume but find the 5 minute episodes aren't enough, definitely try Hanayamata. If you like Hanayamata and want more like it, Yama no Susume is a great starting point.

An anime a lot like this one, about a group of friends who have a dream and try to pursuit it.

Unlike Natsuiro Kiseki, in Hanayamata they are not childhood friends.

KINMOZA!

KINMOZA!

Shinobu Oomiya is a 15-year old Japanese school girl who did a homestay in the UK when she was in junior high. One day, as she is missing her time abroad, a letter arrives for her from the daughter of her UK host family, Alice Cartelet, announcing that she is coming to Japan! With Shinobu’s classmates Aya Komachi and Yoko Inokuma, as well as Alice’s childhood friend and rival from the UK, Karen Kujo, the lives of the five girls sparkle like a mosaic, and an airy and sweet school comedy starring Japanese and British schoolgirls is about to start!

Both anime have one (Hanayamata) or two (Kinmoza) foreign students from an English-speaking country. Alice and Hannah are also quite similar. Both are SoL anime with a similar vibe to it and they both feature japanese culture, though Hanayamata focuses on Yosakoi. To me, Hanayamata felt like a cross between Kinmoza and K-On.

Have you seen the store managers from each anime?  Strikingly similar character designs.  Tall, muscular, bald types intimidating until you get to know them.

Both are CGDCT shows that are centered around team performances with dance moves (cheerleading/yosakoi) and follow a newly formed team working to become stronger and more competitive. Anima Yell has a lighthearted mood throughout, whereas Hanayamata has some drama in the 2nd half.
