Working!!

Working!!

Self-professed lover of all things small and cute, Souta Takanashi finds himself dragooned into working at the Wagnaria family restaurant by the diminutive and vivacious Poplar Taneshima. Though the pay is reasonable and the clientele polite, the high school student is often at his wits' end when dealing with the quirky staff. If the indifferent and street-tough manager, katana-carrying floor chief, and terminally weak Poplar weren't enough, Souta frequently fears for his life, as every encounter with the violently androphobic Inami ends in injury. How long can he survive before the combined stress and harm do him in?

When I first started watching Working!!, the first thing I noticed was that Takanashi was obviously Tsuchida after wandering into the wrong anime. And while many other characters are also similar, the two male leads are the most noticable.

rhibob rhibob says...

If you are looking for a comedic slice of life about workplaces, these two shows are for you.  The main characters in both shows are similar in appearance and in that they get dragged into things easily.  There is romance in both shows, so really there is something for everyone.

Innocent Innocent says...

These two animes are so much alike, their style of anime looks exactly the same. Their plot is somewhat the same. Even their main character looks like they could be twins!

captaincrunch captaincrunch says...

Although the situations and environments are different, both of these series share a similar style both of comedy and animation.

Hanamaru has much younger characters, but the range of personalities is also somewhat similar between the two shows.  The two main characters from each show could easily be mistaken for each other, both in terms of personality and appearance.

If you enjoyed one, you should enjoy the other.

KittyEmperor KittyEmperor says...

If you like one of these then you'll probably like the other because both series just have this happy feel to them that makes them relaxing to watch.  The main point to each series is the comedy that they provide that will get a few laughs out of you no matter who you are.  Each series also at times tend to get somewhat serious but they never last long before they each get back to the laughs.  While Hanamaru Youchien has a male lead who becomes a kindergarten teacher and Working!! has a male lead who is a server they each display a certain lifestlye that a person can lead and some challenges that they may face.

wolfangel87 wolfangel87 says...

With a slight draw of romantic style Hanamaru Youchien and Working!! Have a similar characteristic style.  The two series focus on the lives of characters in the work environment and the troubles that go into their everyday lives.  Needless to say if you see either of these series, the two main characters could be twins.

Potemayo

Potemayo

Sunao decides to take care of Potemayo and takes her with him everywhere he goes, and as a result Potemayo quickly becomes popular with Sunao's classmates. However, the tranquility of the new friendship is broken with the arrival of another creature from Sunao's fridge – this time a scythe-wielding laser-shooting horned creature he dubs Guchuko. Now, every day brings new adventures and surprises with Potemayo and Guchuko around!

At first, these two animes have really similar characters. For example Potemayo and Anzu. Similarities don't go only for appearance, but also for their behaviour and character. Art in both animes is similar too, thought Potemayo has less detailed background. You can find lots of other common features, like jokes.

So if you liked one of those two, you'll like another one for sure.

thisdudearound thisdudearound says...

Potemayo and Hanamaru Youichen are similar when comparing it's cast of characters. The main hook for both series' are that they involve small story events (with no real depth) of chibi-like characters with a lovable, eccentric approach. Enjoying one will ensure you'd enjoy the other.

cassiesheepgirl cassiesheepgirl says...

My main reasoning behind this rec is that both of these series are incredibly cute and feature tiny, adorable protagonists. While Hanamaru actually features humans as opposed to whatever Potemayo actually is, they both give off the same sort of easy-watching, comic vibe.

yugure yugure says...

If you liked Potemyo or Hanamaru Yochien, you'll like them both. Both anime are very cute and a lot of fun to watch. The characters are cute and funny. Also, some characters are similar, like potemayo and anzu, Tuchida and Moriyama. I recommend both anime very much!

Mayobe Mayobe says...

These shows both attempt to capitalize on the concept of a tiny bundle of cuteness that's completely in love with the main character. In Potemayo the small cute thing is some kind of plant/alien/mystery baby, and in Hanamaru it's a kindergardener. There's a slightly creepy vibe to Hanamaru, because there's something innately uncomfortable about a tiny little girl trying to hook up with a grown man, but the show makes sure to stay light and innocent with it, so it's not too terrible. Potemayo dodges the issue altogether because it's obvious that Potemayo's love for Sunao is clearly platonic, almost as if he were her father, or more as though she were a strange kind of pet. In any case, if you like Hanamaru then you'll probably like Potemayo, and if you like Potemayo then you may want to look at the first couple of episodes of Hanamaru and see if you can enjoy it.

If you enjoy Hanamaru Youchien you may also enjoy Kodomo no Jikan.  The two shows have a similar set-up and type of humor.  The shows both use a male teacher with three young girls; and at least one girl puts him in situations that make him seems like a complete pervert.  Though Kodomo takes the eichii-ness quite a bit further than Youchien does.

Curlypanda Curlypanda says...

Kodomo no Jikan is basically the ecchi version of Hanamaru Youchien, Although Both Animes have different audiences they are both similar in many ways; A student falls in love with a teacher who is new to the job and puts him in a place that makes him seem like a pervert, the student who falls in love with the teacher has two best friends who she asks advise about how to get him to like her, the personalities of the best friends are that ones really shy and the other just wants to look out for the girl who is in love. These are just some examples of what the animes have in common. both the animes have similar types of humour and are both set in a similar environment.

KingArthur13th KingArthur13th says...

Two series revolving around an incredibly young girl falling in love with her teacher. Both are filled with misunderstandings and sexual innuendo. Kodomo no Jikan is a bit more serious and more ecchi than Hanamaru Youchien.

ForTheLoveOfLoli ForTheLoveOfLoli says...

The main plot in these both animes is very much the same and most of the characters are quite alike as well. These are comedies about clumsy, inexperienced, awkward but kind-hearted male teachers, and the little school-/kindergarten girls who fall in love with them and complicate their lives. Be warned that KnJ is a much more mature, true-to-its-form lolicon anime, steeped in heavy loli ecchi, and with a few dark twists.

SugarTitSenpai SugarTitSenpai says...

The two are set about the relationship between a very yound student and a newly employed Teacher.

Kodomo no Jikan is a heavy Ecchi series, with lewd moments and very perverted jokes.

Hanamaru Youchien is a very laid back series, with a strong comedy but a nice and laid back romance backing.

Depending on what you are looking for, Hanamru Youchien was a nice anime, pulled off very nicely by Gainax (I know Gainax for their nuts seris like FLCL, TTGL and NGE) so this was a tad surprisng. If you are after something with a more depth backing with characters, but a bit on the cheesier side of things, go for Kodome no Jikan.

I wouldnt recommend Kodomo no Jikan to younger viewers though!

School Babysitters

School Babysitters

When Ryuichi and his 2-year-old brother Kotaro's parents die in a plane crash, the brothers are adopted by a woman who lost her son in the same incident: the wealthy chairwoman of Morinomiya Academy. She's empathetic to the brothers' plight, but her kindness has a cost: she's opened an on-site daycare for the staff's children, but doesn't have enough people to run it. None of the students have been interested in helping, and the only adult childcare worker spends more time sleeping than caring for the children. The chairwoman's solution? Put Ryuichi to work as the very first member of the school's new "Babysitter's Club"!

Both shows are sweet and cute comedies about childcare. The children are typically around 4-5, and are literally knee-high. Gakuen Babysitters involves a high school student taking care of his little brother after the death of their parents. While there are some serious and sad moments when this is addressed, the series is a comedy overall, and laughs abound. Hanamaru Youchien is about a young man who becomes a teacher at a kindergarten to meet female teachers. (It's not a harem show.) Once there, one of his students thinks he was flirting with her (he wasn't) and believes that she's fallen in love with him. Comedy abounds as he tries to tell the young girl that 15-20 years is too much of an age gap without breaking her little heart.

wolfangel87 wolfangel87 says...

If you are looking for cute fun series Mitsudomoe and Hanamaru Youchien are great for each other.  Each involving little kids each with their own unique personalities and sense of humor.  The male teachers are drawn into many humorous misunderstandings along the way, solely because of the kids around them.

Darkrystal Darkrystal says...

I like to think of Mitsudomoe as 'what happened when the kids in Hanamaru Youchien got older'. While Hanamaru only alludes to a more adult edge from time to time, Mitsudomoe goes all out, guns blazing, and nothing is sacred! Both shows focus on schoolgirls and the innapropriate situations they find themselves in, more often than not with the involvement of their slightly inept male teachers. So if you enjoyed one series, I'd recommend giving the other a try too!

The girls in Magical Chocolate and Hanamaru Youchien are both a bit too young to understand the complexity and intensity of real love, but they're both willing to pour their hearts into the pursuit of it nonetheless. If you like childish romance, give these shows a try. ^_^

Hanamaru Youchien and Magical Chocolate both have young girls with an intense desire for love.  Even in their childish ideals of what love is they push through everything to try and make it happen.

Pugyuru

Pugyuru

In a normal neighborhood in a normal city, a young maid arrives from the maid village to help out a young unnamed girl. But this battery-operated being is no ordinary maid! Not only can she remove her head and turn her body into glue (amongst other things), Cheko-chan also has the wackiest of friends. From Mizore, the edible snow spirit from the north, to Nachiko, a large squid who likes to change faces, to Kanato the Yankee, the bully who is the strongest of them all, it seems the craziness has just begun in the life of a once typical high school student.

Both Hanamaru Youchien and Gakuen Alice revolves around children at a young age. Both anime have characters that are so adorable despite the difference in age. The animes mostly tells about characters' adventure in their everyday life and how they view their surroundings and the adults around them. Both the main character has a tendency to get into trouble despite their good intention. Both anime also place importance in friendship.
