To be honest i'm kinda shocked this anime doesn't have five stars. ITS AMAZING! THE CHARACTERS ARE PEEERRRFEEECTTT! it's basically impossible to not become attached. The amount of savageness from tsukishima and tanaka, parental supervison from daichi and suga, uncle vibes from nishinoya, shyness from asahi, talent and king vibes from kageyama, and happiness and cuteness from hinata, IS JUST TOO MUCH! UGH ITS JUST AMAZING! especially if you like sports animes, its perfect in my opinion!

Hinata at the beginning of this series was cringy, I couldn't stand him. He was that annoying kid in your 2nd period English class in High School who always had energy at 8:00 in the morning annoying everyone in the classroom and the teacher. I originally dropped it after watching the first five minutes because I couldn't stand Hinata.

However just like that annoying kid, he calms down (somewhat) the later you watch the season.

In the beginning he is a happy-go-lucky boy who wants to play volleyball against the king Kageyama however the unknowingly become teammates. Then with the help of their teammates the once flightless crows fly again, reigniting old rivalries and starting new ones.

Although everything fell into place the plot however was predictable and not as great as it could have been. However, the thing that does save the show is the characters. They're memorable as well as hilarious when the time comes, we know the motivations of the teams and learn their backstories which is something that occurs throughout the series.

The animations through each volleyball game are astounding, the sound, pacing, technical factors, lessons, comedy. I enjoyed this more than I thought I would.

This review is applicable to all seasons up to 2020. [Might contain minor spoilers]

Haikyuu is a show that I wanted to love. Unfortunately, it just wasn't for me. The story is typical, but nothing I hate. I love tournament arcs, after all. It starts off alright—you have a kid who's enthusiastic about volleyball and chases the dream despite the disadvantage of his height. I love that he became a secret weapon of sorts as he got better, but that's it. Once you see him spike and dash about enough times, it gets repetitive and boring. This is repeated n number of times throughout the story. But okay. Sometimes it just be like that...

Then I remember the characters. How soulless they were. One-dimensional and flat. The main characters, the extras... All of them. At times, I think to myself: why should I care about xxx character? Why are you giving me his backstory and what has that accomplished in bringing his character closer to me, the viewer? And the answer is always disappointing.

I think part of the issue is that the cast of characters is just way too big and there's not enough pages or time to shine the light on all of them.

In any case, if you're looking for brotherhood and friendship and lightheartedness, HQ is (perhaps) the show for you. But if you're looking for a story with more meat and characters that have more to them than just one defining quality, I suggest you look elsewhere.

...... How do I say this politely? I came in with high expectations because of the high rating and ended up dropping it because I feel asleep watching it. Like, c'mon, I was so bored.
