These two Anime are very similar indeed, which is why I think you'd like them. Timid central characters with the ability to acquire a "living" armour when they feel threatened or under attack

But rather than finding themselves at the gates of heaven, the duo materialize in a room full of strangers and a giant black sphere known as GANTZ. As if dying once wasn’t bad enough, the occupants of the room are then forced to embark on dangerous missions to kill strange aliens; missions that very few return from. Now, Kei, Katou, and a well-endowed friend must fight for their freedom with an arsenal of guns, high powered suits, and a very low chance of survival.

Although there are some differences visually, these animes are actually quite similar. The main characters are forced into a world where they must fight for their lives. In most cases they are aided by enhanced suits and weaponry. The protagonists are similar in the way that they hated how this was pushed upon them with no other choice and try to find a way to cope with it, and still live their lives.

If you are looking for something similar with a more futuristic tone, Bubblegum Crisis is it! These female vigilantes use form fitting suits to fight crime and try to prevent the end of humanity.

Bubblegum Crisis

Bubblegum Crisis

The year is 2032. Tokyo has been destroyed by a great earthquake and a new city, MegaTokyo, has risen from the ashes. Humans now live side-by-side with androids known as Boomers who perform many of the menial and laborious tasks that humans despise, but these artificial servants come with a price: they have a tendency to go haywire and attack those they were built to serve. The A.D. Police force was created to try and stop this menace, but its weapons can do little more than annoy the Boomers. Hope lies with the Knight Sabers, four young women with high-tech, armored suits and enough firepower to stop an army - but will it be enough to stop MegaTokyo's greatest threat?

In both animes the protagonists wear special suits to fight evil. Both evils are manmade, mechanical and biomechanical monsters that are bent on world domination. The Knight Sabers wear mechanical suits to battle boomers, evil machines. Sho wears a biomechanical suit to fight biomechanical monsters, and also formerly human. Both, Knight Sabers and Sho, use suits that are much more powerful and the evil organizations want the suits for themselves.

Watching Generator Gawl felt like I was watching a secondary story in the Guyver universe. There are a lot of similar idea's and themes, interesting plot twists in both that are pretty cool, some characters are pretty similar (especially Guyver's Mizuki and Gawl's Masami), and of course bio-mecha action with characters that transform. If you like any of the Guyver shows, definitely check out Generator Gawl.

Both series have a lot in common. They are both very dark and shounen in feel and have teenagers suddenly acquiring power and then being aggressively pursued by an evil multinational company that doesn’t care about casualties and is determined to recover their technology with an apparently limitless supply of progressively stronger goons.

If you liked Guyver but you wanted a darker show with better characters, a stronger story, a more complex world and battles that involve tactics and strategy instead of simply hurling powers around along with a complete ending then you should check out Project ARMS. However be warned that the production values for Project Arms are much lower (weaker animation and music).
