Full Metal Panic!

Gonzo does it again with this action-packed mecha comedy. She's an ordinary high school girl. He's a counterterror agent assigned to protect her from those who would steal the information locked in her mind. OK, so she's not so normal after all. Armored Slave battles and lovers' spats abound as Sousuke and his comrades try to track down the mysterious Gauln before it's too late.

Another mecha series...... it does involve love, comedy , mecha , highschool students.... A great series

A little more fanservice, a little more action, a little less of a focus on everyday life -- Full Metal Panic! is a well-executed take on the teenagers/mecha angle of shounen anime.

Kensai Kensai says...

Teenagers, mechas, all twisted in a love story makes these 2 series very similar imo.

FMDGandi FMDGandi says...

Both animes have much Mecha action, and both share the theme of growing up, and relations between young people. Gunparade March takes place in a parallel reality where the earth is taken over by aliens, Full Metal Panic has also futuristic elements, such as the mechas, weapons etc. but this scenario is more realistic. Both animes are packed with a good portion of humor and love. If you liked one of them I'm sure you will like the other too

Lothar Lothar says...

Both FMP and Gunparade march are mecha shows that focuses a lot mor on the characters than on the actual mechafighting. They feature romance, comedy, drama and action in a very good mix. Character designs are beutiful, especialy in FMP (think Tessa, Chidori). Both are enjoyable throughout the show and I promise you won't regret seeing either one of them.

Roxas Roxas says...

Both series center around both mech fighting and the relationship between the two main characters. FMP seems to center more around the action, while GM focuses on the relationship more. Full Metal Panic, being longer, has an overall better storyline, but if you liked one, you would surely like the other. Neither is even remotely original, but both are highly enjoyable to watch.

kristianmorris kristianmorris says...

Once again young love blossoms in the shadow of war and gigantic robots. Ya it has been played to death but it still works in my opinion.

Guitarpro Guitarpro says...

You must definitely watch Gunparade March and Full Metal Panic. They are both mecha/school life anime with humour and action. I think that the most enjoyable things are comedic parts. FMP has more action parts than Gunparade March, which is maybe because it has more episodes than GM. GM doesn't have much room for action because the love story is important and needs more episodes to "grow up." :)

Pippin4242 Pippin4242 says...

Both series explore themes of love and war in a mecha-based environment, capturing beautifully the awkwardness of young relationships. Neither shie from showing death and violence, but it is never gratuitous. 'Full Metal Panic' seems to be better known than 'Gunparade March', but this is rather unfair, because they're doing a similar thing, and they're doing it incredibly well. Both are recommended viewing in my book.

stingreis stingreis says...

Both of these anime's require a very quiet... military driven character to get along with a random outgoing character.... They both involve machines and fighting, they both have a romantic sub-storyline... so many similarities. If you liked one, you're sure to like the other.

Boys Be...

Boys Be...

There is nothing more sad and pleasant than love in its various forms, and a group of high school students will discover them in this melancholy series. The focus is on Kanzaki Kyoichi, an artist and a dreamer at heart, and Nitta Chiharu, a track star and a childhood friend of Kyoichi's. From spring to summer to fall to winter, love will grow and fade, and grow again

kaz kaz says...

Take the mecha out of Gunparade March, add a great deal more drama, and you have Boys Be -- an extremely atypical shounen series that looks at romance from a boy's perspective. Girls will love Boys Be because of the way it pulls at the heartstrings, and even guys may need to reach for a tissue.

sothis sothis says...

While Boys Be and Gunparade March might SEEMINGLY be totally different, they both are very sentimental romance type stories about a group of friends who grow together. GM definitely has the additional sci fi element to it, but when it comes down to it, both have a remarkably similar feel. I can't see how you'd like one and wouldn't like the other.

For Katase and her friends, their training at the foundation Stellvia is just the beginning of an adventure that could lead to saving the world, or seeing its end...

sothis sothis says...

If you liked the slice of life daily sci-fi feel of Gunparade March, Stellvia is definitely something you should check out. Though it boasts a far heftier plot, it still has the same sort of character development and slower feel to it. I thought both shows were amazing anyways! If you liked GM, definitely give Stellvia a try.

freakzilla freakzilla says...

The idea of fighting to protect those we care about doesn't have to be the main subject of an anime. Both Gunparade March and Stellvia show us who their pilots are and how they interact with each other, in addition to a romantic side story.

Mobile Suit Gundam SEED

Mobile Suit Gundam SEED

The universe of the future is divided between the Earth Alliance and ZAFT. After a year of war, ZAFT attacks the neutral colony Heliopolis to steal five prototype mobile suits. The mission is a success, but a young man named Kira stumbles upon the fifth Gundam, and he may be the Alliance's only hope...

kaz kaz says...

Throw a bunch of confused teenagers together, and add in mecha -- this formula shouldn't be all-too-unfamiliar to anime fans, but each series differs in the various nuances. Gundam SEED uses a well-known franchise to deliver this formula with a slightly different angle, focusing more on love triangles than on a galactic struggle.

Roxas Roxas says...

Obviously, both are mech-based shows. However, both of these shows differ from most other 'mech' shows in that they focus far more upon the characters' relationships with one another than on the wars and political situations. Gundam Seed obviously has more well-developed characters and a more involved plot, being over four times as long, but fans of either show should like both.

Roxas Roxas says...

Kare Kano and Gunparade March both have a cute, emotional romance between the two main characters. Both also have the characters really wanting to put up a good 'image.' Kare Kano has more comedy, while Gunparade March has some mech action. While watching GM, I was often reminded of Kare Kano, so they're probably more similar than what could be seen at first glance.

freakzilla freakzilla says...

The way romance is coupled to character development in both Gunparade March and Kare Kano feels quite similar. You won't find the same comedy in Gunparade March and you won't find any mecha action in Kare Kano, yet nonetheless, the feeling one gets from the characters approaching each other and dealing with problems is very reminiscent.

Seiryu Seiryu says...

If you liked Gunparade March, you would also like Suzuka. The girl in Suzuka is very similar to the girl in Gunparade. Her behaviour and even her past are almost the same.

Suzuka has nothing to do with mecha fighting or saving the world, but the relationship between the main characters is quite similar. It does takes more episodes to get them together, though.

freakzilla freakzilla says...

Gunparade March and Suzuka have a nice love story. Although some comedy can be found in Suzuka, both series have their times when a serious note is thrown in to ensure the atmosphere becomes more gloomy.

The main characters of both Gunparade March and Eva have the same personality types. They all fight evil alien invaders using giant robots as well. So if you liked one take a look at the other.

Both anime's incorporate mecha fighting on earth, with a plot driven storyline... Though Neon Genesis Evangelion doesn't have as much romance, they are both intense in the battles and show the sadness of a fallen friend...

Both series have their share of Mech action and defending the humen race from bug-like monsters. But the really great thing about them is that they not only focus on action but also on humen relationships during extrem situations. To put it simple they both have a well made love story which goes great with the action sequences.

Ryuuhei Ryuuhei says...

At first, you can tell, each other are taking place in different ages, but the plot is nearly the same. But, they're not the same. Simply, if you want more action and battling with great post-apocalyptic atmosphere, choose Blue Gender, but, if you want something more focusing on romance, less gore and with some comedy in it, choose Gunparade March. However, both series are great and worth seeing.

Aquarian Age

Character relationships. Love, and fear -- that's what's at the heart of Aquarian Age's story, and while traces of this, most notably the love element, are present in Gunparade March, Aquarian Age is much more serious fare. If drama is what you're thirsty for, look to Aquarian Age.

Although the graphics aren't as good, they share many similarities. Dual! has mecha which does include high school people. It has a good combination of ecchi with mecha. Definitely a must see if you liked gunparade.
