Grand Blue - Reviews

I was looking for a newer anime that featured Comedy and Ecchi that I could stream without commercials. That is how I came to watching Grand Blue. First and foremost, it is definitely a Seinen anime due to the extremely high level of drinking (alcohol). That alone makes it anime not really suited for teenagers. It is even the rare instance where all of the characters are 20 years old or older. It's not one of those clichéd high school School Life anime that can over saturate the anime market during any given season. So with that in mind, let us begin the review.

The story is nearly plotless unless you enjoy anime that feature Oceans or deep water diving. Even then there are a couple of instances with back-to-back episodes having absolutely nothing to do with actual diving. However, the story does flow very nicely with each episode leading into the next almost seemlessly. And where Grand Blue really shines is in it's Gag, Slapstick style of comedy with some meaningful morale lessons slipped in throughout, which was an unexpected surprise.

The animation is detailed and the art style is pleasantly appealing and colorful. The characters are well drawn, although the slapstick art style can be overly done on occasion. The scenery is nothing overwhelming but is nice to look at none-the-less. However, the best part is the high-quality and consistency in the animation itself. With so much fluent movement visually happening all the time it's difficult to not enjoy what you're seeing on screen.

The OP and ED theme songs are both sound good with the OP being the better of the two in my opinion. It especially suits the series. Other than that, there isn't much to say about the sound in Grand Blue. It's there but it doesn't really affect the show positively or negatively. It's just present, which is OK.

The male characters are just crazy and fun. To the same token, some of them can be annoying as well. Both Iori and Kouhei could learn to get along just a little bit better. They're the main reason the slaptick art style is sometimes overly done due to them fighting all the damn time. Iori needs to learn how to stay away from unwanted trouble that prqctically falls right into his lap. Ryuujirou and Shinji are both good guys and freaking riots (of laughter). They're so badass sometimes that they could be crossover characters in a fighting anime, such as My Hero Academia or History's Strongest Disciple Kenichi.

The female characters all have their own personalitites that stand out as well, for the most part. Chisa is quiet and somewhat reserved, but is also fearless. She's quite independent and strong willed. She makes for a solid leading lady. Azusa fits right in with the boys. "Cakey" is timid and afraid to come out of her shell. She has two forms: crazy drunk makeup girl and her normal, short blue-haired self. Both versions of her are fun in their own positive way. Nanaka is probably the only significant person that doesn't really shine through enough on her own. If more of all of them were like her then this anime would be lacking personality. She's not a bad character, just one without a truly strong enough presence compared to most of the others.

Overall, there is plenty to like about Grand Blue. It's laugh-out-loud funny at certain times with an unexpected morale compass slipped in here and there. The characters have a really good presence and animation is near top notch. If what you're looking to watch is similar to what I just mentioned and what I said in the very beginning, then you're sure to enjoy it. I can easily say that I recommend it.

I would like it a lot more if it was only a comedy not a rom-com.

This show is a must-see for anyone in college or wanting to reminisce about college days. It's a pretty great slice of life comedy with lots of heart put in it and the only way You could be disappointed by it is if You're looking for a show about diving.

First - the story. 

The plot revolves around antics of two freshmen in college, their budding relationship with each other and the diving club they join.  There's also a little bit of romance sprinkled in for the main protagonist.

The story is pretty episodic and lets the viewer experience the everyday lives of the characters. College life of the characters is depicted ... how to say it ... VERY realistically (at least from my point of view) and drives the comedy parts of the show. 

Second: the animation and artwork.

The animation is quite nice and I liked the character designs. It's not groundbreaking or anything but it doesn't have to be with this genre.

Third: the sound.

The sound is ok. I can't really say anything more about it.

Fourth: the characters.

As with all slice of life anime, the characters make or break the show and fortunately for Grand Blue its characters are its strongest part. 

First of all, every character has a logical motivation for his or her actions and is very believable. Sure they might act dumb sometimes ... or most of the time ... but you're supposed to act that way in college. Or at least I did.

Secondly, the characters (two protagonists, in particular) are very likable, which makes You want to watch their new adventures every week.

Lastly, the main protagonist and most of the other important characters have their arcs which makes it satisfying to watch them grow and change little by little. 

Verdict: It's definitely worth checking out - the comedy is great and you'll fall in love with two main protagonists instantly.

Grand Blue Dreaming was one of the best animes this season had to offer.

The story follows a group of college kids and their lives as deep sea divers, while also enjoying the college drinking parties. Rather simple but enjoyable.

The Animation and Art of the show is one of the best out their, everything is shaded and animated really well. I'm not someone who knows a lot about animation, so I would suggest you go watch the opening.

The Sound is also really good too, from simple sound effects to the soundtrack is well done, most notably again the opening.

The Characters are the most enjoyable characters an anime has to offer. Most have a likable personality that make the show that much more fun to watch. The main character and his best friend being the best this show has to offer.

This is an anime that I think that you should at least watch the first episode as it will give you a good idea of how good the show is.

Overall I really enjoyed this show, this show never had a low point in its 12 episode run(Should've been 24). The show is actually notably to not have a moment were I wasn't bored or indifferent to what was on screen. If I had to describe the show I would say it's "fun", plain and simple.

I thibk this anime was super funny. I really enjoyed watching it and i laughed alot. if youre looking for a comedy anime i highly recomend it.
