DarkEmerl123 DarkEmerl123 says...

Both series have a similar format, with a guy finding an intelligent girl in a library, and then they solve mysteries together. In Gosick, the case looks like it has a supernatural answer and it is just a lot of tricks, when in Dantalian no Shoka, it loks like a normal murder but it is supernatural. In other words, Dantalian no Shoka is like a supernatural version of Gosick.

Shiraiyuki Shiraiyuki says...

I think Dantalian no Shoka and Gosick are similar in more then one way.For example, the characters, the girls are both very smart, they're both bookworms too, and they look like dolls. The guys are the overprotective-type, the type that would sacrifice himself for the safety of the girl.

For short, if you like/liked one I'm sure you'll like the other.

MADwonderholic MADwonderholic says...

Gosick and Dantalian no Shoka have a very similar feel to them. They are both set in Europe, and the male lead finds their companion in a similar fashion. The female leads both are bookworms and possess a lot of knowledge. Dantalian no Shoka is more supernatural-based than Gosick but if you like one you'd definitely like the other.

DarkMagicianGirl DarkMagicianGirl says...

Gosick and Dantalian no shoka are really similair because of the girls the both love books, all kind of sweets and mysteries to solve. Both have boys who protect them. And are jelous of a the best girlfriend of the boys. If you loved gosickyou will love Dantalian no shoka and vice versa.

HasseRovdjur HasseRovdjur says...

There's a lot of similarites between these two shows. Setting-wise, both feature a guy that's the 'Watson' of the pair, and a mysterious and bibliophiliac waif of a girl dressed in gothic dresses and the setting is early 20th century Europe, albeit in different countries. Thematically, they are both mainly about mysteries, though of different kinds. To top it all off, they have very similar styles of animation and character designs.

If you liked either, you should check out the other. I find that they complement each other pretty well.

Suimin Suimin says...

When you watch Dantalian no Shoka, you immediately think of Gosick, or vice versa depending on which you've seen first. Both of these anime are about genius detective girls who like to read books, eat sweets, and wear gothic lolita outfits full time. There is also an overly kind male lead who spends his time with her. They both take place in Europe in the past. Both anime also deal with murder mysteries.

diclonius1 diclonius1 says...

Both series are quite similar. They're about a guy who meets a girl in a library and they start solving mysteries together. Even the main characters resemble one another. Both Victorique (Gosick) and Dalian (Dantalian no Shoka) love reading books, are tsunderes, act like babies and really like sweets. Dantalian is more supernatural though. If you liked one you'll surely like the other too.

pukahuntus pukahuntus says...

From the beggining the likeness of these 2 series is quite striking- whilst Dantalian no Shoka is slightly more super natural, I can summarise the storyline of both in 3 bullet points; BOY meets GIRL, GIRL likes books, BOY and GIRL solve mysterious mysteries. If you like either of these animes, I hereby entice you to watch the other: DO IT!

Nicknames Nicknames says...

Both anime are quite similar because they feature a loli tsundere who loves reading and solve mysteries along with a male partner who protects her, and both of them are set in Europe. The main difference between Gosick and Dantalian no Shoka is that the mysteries in Dantalian no Shoka are more supernatural while in Gosick is just a normal mystery. Anyway, if you like one you'll like the other one too.

eaper eaper says...

These series each follow an extremely smart loli and her partner around as they try to solve various mysteries with a touch of supernatural (well, a lot of supernatural in Dantalian). The lead females both also love books and sweets. Finally, each story takes place near WW2. If these things excite you, consider watching the other.

somepeoplefly somepeoplefly says...

Both Anime's have similar animation styles, and similar character types.

Both are set in a victorian era, with a small enigma of a girl and a boy/man that stumbles upon her. Both animes solve mysteries.

Although gosick does have a slightly supernatural element to it, Dantalian has more.

sven7 sven7 says...

The two shows share a lot of similarities from the style of story telling, to the characters, and overall intrigue of an original story. It is undeniably easy to tranistion from watching one to the other. Both stories have a way of pulling your curiosity deeper and deeper, both which have an unsympathetic style of explaining parts as the viewer desires, instead holding itself until the opportune moment.

mmag13 mmag13 says...

Well, as others have said, there are many similarities between these two anime.  In both Gosick and Dantalian no Shoka, the plot revolves around a young man who finds an analytical, bookworm of a girl in a library.  In both of these anime, the pair combine to solve various mysteries that pop up.  Dantalian no Shoka has more of a supernatural feel to it, but never the less, if you liked one, you should try the other.

Bind Bind says...

Both of the series share a similar setting where the protagonist meets a girl in a library. The storyline is also quite similar in that the protagonist ends up protecting her from the big bad.

AliLinn AliLinn says...

They're both interesting, fascinating, mind blowing, and intelligent. They need more of this on television now a days than the silly reality shows!!

bunnylovesanime bunnylovesanime says...

Both series feature a victorian era couple solving crimes/murders. Both feature a head strong girl who learns to trust and form a strong friendship with an adventurous slightly less head strong boy. Both stories feature beautiful scenery, great mysteries, and fantastic characters.

Grach Grach says...

The plot for both of these is strikingly similar - the newly arrived main character meets a girl who seems to know everything there is to know and spend their time reading, and eventually form a bond while solving mysteries with said girl. They also take place in a similar time period; shortly after the end of the First World War.

There are so few dissimilarities that transitioning from one to the other is easily done!

These are basically the same anime, although I prefer Gosick way more. The main characters are practically identical, it's actually quite funny how similar they are.

It's like I'm watching the same thing! Characters are very similar. Only exception is the age gap between the two main male characters. Like one, then you'll like the other.

Black Butler

Black Butler

In Victorian England it is commonplace for the rich and wealthy to have a staff, led by a head butler, to run their households; the Phantomhive Estate is no different. The young and demanding Count Ciel Phantomhive, child owner of a toy company, lives in the grand countryside manor. Sebastian is his head butler, and the epitome of perfection; he effortlessly and gracefully completes his day-to day chores and fixes the countless mistakes of the other employees. However, whilst on the outside all seems prim and proper, a more sinister secret lies just beneath the surface. Sebastian is in fact a demon bound by a contract with the young count; he will loyally serve and fight for him in return for his soul.

Cause in the both are the factor butler and servant, the two have a tsundere protagonist capricious and conceited, but we love them anyway, besides the fact solve mysteries makes these two series similars, so if you wanna watch an anime with the same tematic, is recommended ;)

eaper eaper says...

These series each take place in a similar era and focus around solving mysteries. If you like the Victorian era as a setting while solving mysteries, then these shows go well together.

YoMonkeysUncle YoMonkeysUncle says...

What they both have: A stubborn and demanding child-like main character, myteries to solve, European theme (clothes, buildings, ect.), complicated character relationships, mysterious characters, and a hint of comedy.

What the lack in eachother: Kuroshitsuji incldes actual supernatural-activity, whereas Gosick's supernatural events are all solved using logic and science (Of what the episodes show so far; Gosick is still an ongoing show.) The characters in Kuroshitsuji are a bit more refined and reserved, whereas Gosick's provides slapstick. Gosick's main envirmonment consists of a school in a made-up English-like country.

Overall: Both are really good shows. I praise Kuroshitsuji more though for it's dark demeanor. That is personally my style. I would rate Kuroshitsuji a 4.5/5 and Gosick 4/5.

varisk varisk says...

Both anime are very similar in their story telling. They have a larger plot, or story arc, that is fed by smaller sub-plots, and arcs. These take the form of various mysteries the protagonists solve. They also have the same setting, you could watch one and get the same feel from the other, if you wanted to continue watching an european styled anime.

Gavia Gavia says...

When it comes to the plot, these two are similar. Both are detective stories with supernatural elements, though there are lot less of them in Gosick.

Concerning visuals, these two have similar invornments and clothing styles. This is because they take place during roughly the same period of time, late 19th century/early 20th century.

Kuroshitsuji is mostly the darker of the two, but if you liked one there is no stand-out reason that would stop you from liking the other.

bourneroyalty bourneroyalty says...

Both solve mysteries with an england setting. Fairly smiliar characters as well (needy main character). Both appear supernatural.

Kurushitsuji and Gosick are somehow similar. Kinda scary but good :) If you like the one I ensure you, you'll love the other :)

Shivichan Shivichan says...

Both shows give that awesome Victorian - era feel which not many shows have been able to achieve. Other than that, there is no real similarity, but you may want to give it a try if you want more of that Victorian-era England feel.

cerberus38 cerberus38 says...

Both animes are very similar in tone: They are both period pieces set in Europe and involve the protagonists solving mysteries which eventually transitions into a an overall story arc. The mysteries also have an air of the supernatural about them. But at their hearts both anime is about the relationship between the main characters.

linanimex linanimex says...

Both of these anime are related by detective sense and main characters characteristics because trey're both arrogant.

Maranee Maranee says...

It's all been said already: they are similar in the historical setting, the theme of solving mysteries, a bit of funny and supernatural elements. I think the animes have a similar atmosphere, though Kuroshitsuji is a bit darker.

PurplePeopleEater PurplePeopleEater says...

Both occur in a similar time period with the two main characters in a master/servent relationship as they solve various mysteries. Gossik is more focused on the mystery aspect though and includes a bit of school life and such. Black buttler has a bit more comedy although the atmosphere is darker, while Gossick still has a good bit of comedy just not as much and the atomosphere is brighter.

jinxlandon jinxlandon says...

Similar mystery solving techniques. kuroshitsuji is supernatural and has lot more action whereas gosick is more romance, but i loved both

FullmetalDragon FullmetalDragon says...

There seems to be an excessive amount of anime based in the Victorian era, but I'm not complaining, they're awesome. Gosick and Black Butler are just another couple of anime based in a time when excessive frills were still a thing.

Both are about an intelligent girtl who seems to be a recluse but is found to be very intelligent. The girl solves mysteries in various ways and this amounts to a great start and a great story for the series. I loved Gosick and Kamisama no Memo-chou seems to be the next Gosick!

DarkEmerl123 DarkEmerl123 says...

Both Gosick and Kamisama no Memo-chou involve a brilliiant young girl who is a bit of a shutin as the lead.  Gosick is more European in flair, while KnM is set in modern Japan, but both series involve the protagonists solving mysteries that have baffled people twice their age.  If you liked one of these series, be sure to check out the other one.

Both of the series have similar settings where the protaganist is the assistant of a highly intelligent girl with a small body.

snivets snivets says...

Both of these shows revolve around an odd, imperious female lead who stays in her room all day, but is curiously able to solve mysteries with small amounts of information.

ShiiV ShiiV says...

Even though Gosick have a more clear story throughout the whole anime, and a more feeling one too, they are both similar in the way the caracters are presented.

Both animes feature a somewhat tsundure bossy female, who loves to solve different mysteries, and the male protagonist being something of a "servant" or "assistant" to the female.Gosick does however do a better job with making you feel something for the characters, you are quickly made hoping that things will go well etc etc. This without losing the focus on its terrific mystery solving, not leaving any details out so that you have the possibility (well if you do know som background facts) to solve the mystery on your own. Victorique (the female protagonist) also present the details in such a way that you are amazed by her (atleast I was).Kamisama no Memo-chou however, does a worse job with getting you involved with the characters. You somehow does not feel as worried for the characters as in Gosick. Kamisama no Memo-chou also lack the clear thread running through the entire anime, instead having a few independent mysteries. I would recommend Gosick in front of Kamisama no Memo-chou, though both animes are clearly worth seing of you like detective work and mysteries!

Madoka Madoka says...

Both series focus on a girl who is quite the brains when it comes to solving mysteries. If your a NEET detective or just a Golden Fairy it's undiniable these two are alike. Both series have a similar style of progression, Gosick is based in the early 20th century whilst Kamisama no Memo-chou is a more modern setting, both tackle common crimes from murder to gangs and drugs, Both series feature quite serious cases and though Gosick is a little longer which offers it a few "laid back" chances they both do a amazing job and keeping you hooked into the mysteries. I watched Gosick first and recently Kamisama no Memo-chou and i must say, Memo-chou is basically Gosick in the modern day, they are a perfect match and both very enjoyable.

I started watching Hyou-ka for the mystery that I had felt in Gosick. If you like mystery with a bit of comedy, Gosick and Hyou-ka come together with the way of solving, it is all solvable by the viewer you just need to think quite deeply sometimes. The backstories and atmosphere are a lot different but both are entertaining.

A transfer student, school life, mysteries, male and female leads, murder are things both of these animes have. Another focuses on one mystery and while the characters do investigate and solve the problem, I wouldn't use detectives when talking about Another. Gosick on the other hand solves multiple mysteries that are all linked together and the characters are more or what you might think of as detectives. I explained that horrible but whatever. Another is more horror while Gossick is more mystery.

lol4999 lol4999 says...

Gosick and Another are similiar in the way that they both have a blossoming love while the main characters are investigating al different kinds of scenarios.

Though Another love story is a bit more hidden and not some much the center of it like it sometimes is in gosick. Also Another has a standard creepy horror vibe, while gosick only had that for a few episodes. Gosick also contained comedy elements that are quite frankly lacking in another.

Both are very good animes but aren't as much alike the father you get in them. Though if you like romance and horror i would recommend both.

To be honest, it is hard to pinpoint exactly what is similar about these two anime. However, The relationship between Victorique, and Kujo is very, very similar to the relationship between Taiga, and Ryuuji. Victorique playing the tsundere role for Gosick. They both have a school life component, and are somewhat episodic. Also, similarly, Taiga and Victorique are similarly small, fragile looking girls who come from rich families they did not get along with for whatever reason. They both spend the anime fleshing out their background, and their attempt to fix their broken family.

MADwonderholic MADwonderholic says...

The main characters have a very similar relationship with each other. Taiga and Victorica are both tsundere and have a male companion following them everywhere. They also both have complicated family relationships.

Kurokitties Kurokitties says...

Both series have a small blonde-haired tsundere female lead, with a subservient male counterpart who cares for her. The difference between the two is: Toradora is a modern school life anime where as Gosick has the mystery element and is set in the 1920's.

If you like the interaction between Ryuuji and Taiga, you'll enjoy watching Kujo and Victorique (and vice-versa).

Dozo Dozo says...

Taiga and Veronique are very similar characters. They are usually angry, they have a bad temper and they have a tendency to mistreat the person that treats them best. They also have in common the journey they overtake through the length of the anime in which by getting to know the male lead better they ultimately get to know themselves and become comfortable with who they are. It's a journey not free of obstacles and hardship, "supernatural" in the case of Gosick and more "real life" in the case of Toradora! You will have certainly come to love the characters by the end of both series, though Kujo and Ryuji can be extremely oblivious more often that you'd like (especially Kujo). I strongly recommend both animes but I personally prefer Toradora!

erakin99 erakin99 says...

Theyre both unmistakably similar! Taiga and Victorique are both innocently beautiful, small, tiny actually, with long light colored hair. They both have a tough, uncaring exterior that contrasts starkly with their gentle appearance but with a 'kawai', gentle, timid and shy side to them that they keep well hidden. And because of this, both anime are in the tsundere style (look it up) which is my favorite...makes for the best romance; that beautiful transformation with the hidden, small hints is awesome...!! And if all that can't illustrate the similarities, the style of animation definitely would....both are drawn with the same sharp features, indicating an apparently harsh personality but the sudden softening of the lines that give way to a cute look on their face is trademark! I'm still trying to find out Why they're so unbelievably similar, though...what links them? Is it the same artist or creator or studio or...?

Im not yet sure how Gosick will pan out cz im still watching but im a talent scout and i see a mountain of potential, which is why i started watching it in the first place.

The important thing is that ALL romance, shojo, tsundere, high school romance loving (and you guys n girls who love chisan, kawai, kire girls) fans out there have GOT to watch this!!! The way Toradora attaches you to it's characters is perfect!! Its makes you feel a true connection to them n pretty soon, that innocent, smiling, scowling face with those BIG brown, sometimes tear filled eyes will make you desperately wish you could restore to happiness. Absolutely lovable...sometimes you wish some parts of the story went differently, and the ending may confuse you (nothing ominous so don't worry), after all, we're anime lovers and we must accept what is given to us, even though we cant change it because the characters kinda steal a soft spot in us, so, as we often have to, we must find our own catharsis and make our peace. what im trying to say is, this is a MUST WATCH!!!

And romance (and slice of life) fans out there, dont you dare miss Clannad and Clannad: After Story.

captivus captivus says...

Both anime take place in a school (albeit in different time periods and places), both have tsundere loli blonde character as a female protagonist, both have kind-hearted male protagonists that are feared by their school friends without real reason. Basically, if you'd put detective plots in Toradora you'd get Gosick and if you'd take them out of it you'd get Toradora.

I recommend both, they're terrific anime and great romcom stories. Pretty realistic too, although Gosick has a plot connected to major politics of its ( somewhat fictional) time period.

Both Gosick and Rozen Maiden have distinctivly vicorian feels to them, mixing gorgeous dresses with dolls and magic, or detective stories. The two stories are more or less in the same range of darkness/light.

The main thing that ties them together are the bossy main girls. Both treat the male leads of their respective series as servants, all while warming up to their company.

If you like one you should give the other a change.

Rozen Maiden follows Jun Sakurada, a middle school student who has withdrawn from society after suffering persecutions from his classmates. He is chosen to become Shinku's master and joins the Alice Game.

The main female character is a cute Victorian dressed Tsundere. One looks like a doll, the other is a doll. The relationship with the lead male is about the same as well. Decent story line in both anime although very different in that aaspect.

Pandora Hearts

Pandora Hearts

On the eve of nobleman Oz Bezarius's fifteenth birthday, he and his loved ones gather to celebrate in a coming-of-age ceremony. But after Oz steps under a long-stopped clock and the hands finally move once more - thus fulfilling a mysterious prophecy - he is violently thrown into the legendary prison known as the Abyss by three cloaked intruders. Existing in another dimension, the Abyss is home to lifeforms born within its walls known as Chains; these beings can only live in the real world if they make contracts with humans, binding their power to the person's body. However, there's a catch - in time, the human will be overcome by the Chain's power and then thrown into the deepest level of the Abyss. When Oz wakes up in the Abyss he is quickly attacked by hungry Chains, only to be saved by one named Alice - a Chain who appeared just before he was thrown into the prison. Together, the two make a contract and return to the real world, where they are enlisted into the Pandora organization - a group researching both the Abyss and the trio that threw Oz into it.  Along with members of Pandora, the duo searches to find Alice's lost memory fragments that are scattered throughout the world, to discover the secrets of the Abyss, and to determine if there's a way their contract can be broken without killing either Oz or Alice.

I think they are somewhat the same. both european theme, a not so love story. Mysterious. And they are both great anime. The difference is I am not satisfied at the ending of Pandora's. But still I like them both :)

Both Pandora hearts and Gosick are an adventure and mystery. Both are quite dark but also have a few funny bits. I liked them both so if you like one, check the other out!

Mystery anime where the solver of the cases is a smart and adorable/beautiful....but eccentirc girl. Part of both the shows is a normal 'dectective cracks mysteries vibe' with the unconvering of the genius girl's past.

The MC in both these shows is a honest boy that has a normal sense of morality and acts like a sort of assistant to the dectective girl, though begrudingly (though we all know he's in love with her).

Once of the main differences would be time the stories is set, Gosick being more in the past, while Sakurako is in the present.

In both anime there is a protagonist with a particular personality and good skills in solving mysteries

Mayank Mayank says...

A lot of similarities ranging from genre to character tropes:

  • Female detective/mystery solver
  • Mysteries
  • Weird personality, almost whimsical
  • Actually kind on the inside
  • Male assistant, quite bland and generic
  • Intriguing and suspenseful cases
