Gintama

Gintama

In Gintoki's Japan, the arrival of the various space races known collectively as the Amanto ended the era of the samurai. The Amanto's highly advanced technology resulted in total conquest and a severe economic shift. Now, former samurai such as Gintoki scrape together whatever livelihood they can. Gintoki's profession of choice is that of a yorozuya: he'll complete any job for money. However, he’s unmotivated; and spending most of the day on the couch with the latest issue of Jump and a carton of Strawberry Milk is his preferred pastime. It turns out that his new unpaid employees, Shinpachi and Kagura, are going to interfere with his pastime even more than with his "work"! Of course, none of this means he has really given up on his samurai ideologies!

Both animes are pretty similar in the style of humor. I am not a 100% percent on this but I believe that these anime/manga are made by the same guy. So if you like the one, you will like the other.

Brad Brad says...

Sunrise is the studio, and Yoichi Fujita is the director behind both of these series, and it really shows in the main selling point of both shows, the comedy.

The type of humour is very similar in each, with a lot of over the top gags, parodies of other anime or manga, shouting, sometimes random, and physical humour. The characters don't feel too similar for the most part, but i will say that the main characters from each show, Momiji and Gintoki, have moments that make them seem not too dissimilar from each other.

Most of the other area's in each show are very different from each other, but it's the comedy that people love these two shows for, and the similarities are pretty obvious if you ask me. So fans of one should get some good laughs out of the other.

Karasune Karasune says...

Although Gintama and Binbougami ga! have their differences, the comedy is very similar. It's persistent, overly dramatic, and even a bit crude at times. However, both shows are not afraid to show a serious side; they're willing to throw in some life lessons along the way. The shows may be different in all other areas, but if you enjoyed the comedy mixed with a dash of seriousness in one, you'll most likely enjoy it in the other.

icloudy icloudy says...

from the first episode you will notice how much they are similar, like OMG!! i actually thought that they were wrote by the same mangaka

- same parody jokes

-the main characters are very similar! (gintoki & momiji).

- sunrise!!!

if you like gintama or binbougami ga i absolutely suggest you to watch the other..

Both are hilarious, with very similar humour styles. Lots of parodies, hilarious characters - I love them both. If you liked one, you'll definitley like the other.

Both series are comedy gag anime that are very funny.  Both break the fourth wall alot and constantly reference other anime/pop culture.  While they have different premises, I think they both appeal to the same target audience.

Each of these shows feature a human character being suddenly surrounded by a load of supernatural beings with odd powers.

The comedy in each can be quite similar at times, with plenty of loud characters arguing, physical gags and parodies aplenty. If you enjoyed one for it's humour, the other is definitely worth a go.

YuiYui YuiYui says...

Both are pretty similar in you look at the story even though Haiyore! Nyaruko-san has a male human and Binbougami ga! a female human. But my point is that both of these characters get into quite a bit of trouble which in the end brings up a multiple of situations Also both contain comedy and a little ecchi but I think both were quite good. So if you liked one of these you should like the other!

bu773rfly bu773rfly says...

Similar humor taken up to 200%.  With better characters, story and of course plenty of references to older franchises.  Be warned though this is a season 1 only anime.

Gorzkiewski Gorzkiewski says...

Both Haiyore! Nyaruko-san and Binbougami ga! are very similar in their concept: a godlike creature messes up the main character's live, much to their uneasiness. From those starting points begin the main story arcs, which in fact are a mosaic of lesser plotlines. However, the nature of the intruder is quite different. While Nyaruko's task is to protect the protagonist from other superior beings, Momiji's motives are totally conflicting. Furthermore, while both titles are indeed comedies, Haiyore! Nyaruko-san is a bit more... lewd and Binbougami ga! may or may not be a tearjerker. Have fun!

Kamen no Maid Guy

Kamen no Maid Guy

Naeko and Kousuke Fujiwara have just been given a gift from their grandfather: the mess of a mansion they live in will now be cared for by two capable maids – Fubiki, a beauty that appeals to Kousuke’s fetish; and Kogarashi, a huge, strong man who will perform his maid duties to his fullest! What the two don’t know is that they are the last in line for their family’s inheritance, and these two “maids” have been hired to protect them. For Kousuke, this new life is a dream come true; but for Naeko, her mammoth, gravity-defying breasts will never be safe from Kogarashi or any other male’s antics again!

Why you would also like Kamen no Maid Guy/Binbougami ga!: Well, its kind of the same intese humor tho slightly different.

Kamen no Maid Guy is a great anime humorous, intense and rather extreme and as far as i can tell from one episode Binbougami ga! is heading the same way.

Rfsancho Rfsancho says...

These shows are definitely very similar in the way they deliver the brute comedy. Always in one extreme way or another, a very fun watch.

AardvarkRex AardvarkRex says...

Both are slapstick comedies with a female protag who is being pestered by a char with supernatural abilities. Similar character dynamics, but Good Luck Girl also has some sad/serious moments, while Kamen No Maid Guy is heavier on fanservice.

Maria Holic

So when she is able to transfer to the Ame no Kisaki Girl’s school, Kanako is overjoyed that she can now search for her fated yuri partner. When she arrives, Kanako meets Shidou Mariya, a beautiful young girl who is exactly her type... except that Mariya is really a sarcastic and sadistic young boy who is masquerading as a girl! With no intention of being expelled from school, Mariya threatens Kanako into keeping his secret, and decides to guard her twenty-four hours a day to ensure that she does. Now Kanako must share a room with Mariya who is gleefully making her life a misery while using his ‘feminine’ charms to stop her protesting. Throw into the mix Ryuuken, the most popular girl in school who has vowed to protect her; and Kiri - who claims they are dating to prevent her from being bullied - and it seems as if Kanako’s dream of all-girl school life will be nothing like she imagined!

With an extremely verbally aggressive main protagonist and a good responsive cast to support their nature, these two shows are very epic and very fun to watch for the slapstick and just hilarious moments of abuse and satirical humor.

If you enjoyed one, boy, you will definitely enjoy the other.

KurenaiSun KurenaiSun says...

Both Binbougami go! and Maria Holic have the same type of humor, girls saying things you'd never hear them say, and strong, aggressive, well defined characters.  Blunt, crass, and ever so colorful, both are filled with creative insults and ridiculous situations. If you laughed at one, you will surely laugh at the other.

Sasami-san@Ganbaranai

Sasami-san@Ganbaranai

Sasami is a lazy hikikomori who'd rather be playing video games and sleeping than being a productive member of society, especially with a doting brother who waits on her hand and foot. But there's more than Sasami and her family than meet the eye – in reality, they are connected to the goddess Amaterasu and mysterious 'alterations' that occasionally change and threaten the world. With the help of three sisters, Sasami slowly tackles day to day challenges and puts a stop to alterations – and monsters – when they appear.

Both series pander to the otaku who is familiarized with a lot of different anime. While Binboungami makes more references Sasami isn't devoid of them.

In terms of plots both lean on the Shinto religion with and put a twist on it. While both series can be comedic about the twist binbougami! is more comedy central while Sasami is generally slightly more serious. Still both series can have pretty crazy plots sometimes.

Gaeryc Gaeryc says...

Both are comedic series about japanese gods, Sasami is maybe more serious but these two are a good match

Both shows feature strong, and funny, female characters and a very angry and yelly protagonist who likes to throw out hilarious punchlines. But most of all, both shows have tons of zany humor and randomness.

Rick18 Rick18 says...

Yes both have off the wall comedy and are both hilarious, however D-frag is more toned down. Even though D-frag is toned down it is still just as funny as Binbougami. Binbougami just has a little more ecchiness in it but not to much, its actually got good humor in it.

Both are pretty frantic shows that loves to reference other anime and break the fourth wall every now and then. They both have a pretty ridiculous premise and aren't exactly serious in tone. Excel Saga is way more irreverent and full of high tempo gags, but it's mostly a matter of degree, not kind.

These shows have many similarities despite a different plot. They both have very similar humour, often making references to pop culture or history. Some of the more serious moments have similar feelings as well. There is a student or somebody in need of help, and despite the character's opposite attitudes and willingness to help, they come in and save the day.

Raunchy at times, off-color humor, and bizarre sitations are the hallmarks of Binbougami ga! and Wallflower.  Though a bit darker than Binbougami, Wallflower has the same unexpected humor and character quality.  Binbougami ga! centers around a female main character and her relationship primarily with the other females around her, Wallflower fits more into the 'reverse harem' theme.  Both stories envolve growing up, introspection, and trials of being true to oneself while improving oneself.
