A girl decides she wants to become an actress/singer/idol, and we all know how it plays out in the end. On the other this is not your run of the mill "path to stardom" tale. In fact it would be more precise to say that Glass Mask and Skip Beat! depict a lonely and difficult journy of self discovery.

Faced with professional and social challanges(love life) both lead characters are able to overcome them by self-examination. In the end, their experences and actions may differ, but the character development is quite similar. It is well worth watching one if you enjoyed the other.

wolfangel87 wolfangel87 says...

Skip Beat and Glass Mask both heroines are trying to make it in the world of theater and the anime goes through all of the struggles that they are having trying to obtain their goals and succeed at becoming a successful actress.  In each there are also various complications with certain love interests that span all different types of emotions for the heroine.

The ideea of persuing your dream and the heroine witch is born with a strong talent for acting, show that the two series resemble. Also, the romance betwen the young actrees and a "sempai", makes the remblence between the two series, evan greater .

Kio Kio says...

Both Skip Beat and Glass Mask series have a similar main theme, where a young girl wats to be a part of show-business. Both girls are very talented, people admre and envy them. They are to go through a hard trial and score a success. Also we can find here a love theme.

They are both competing in acting and are on a journey to self discovery. I really enjoyed Skip Best. It's one of my favorites because it also has some funny parts. They are both worth watching.

These two shows are no brainers with regards to each way rec's - both about acting, lead role is a young girl, love interest in both is a person disliked to begin with, and the list goes on.

akumachan akumachan says...

In both Skip Beat and Glass Mask there is an extrememly hard working main protagonist who has been through hardships since childhood. She would then try to seek for success in the entertainment industry and attempt to find happiness. I would say the true difference between the two stories is that Glass Mask is a more realistic story and at the same time plays with your heartstrings. Skip Beat is more focused on the comedy and is a lot lighter to watch. However, both of the two stories are worthy of reading and watching!

Both of these series have characters who must work through troubled times and hardships to achieve their dream. They go through many trials and evolve in skill and character throughout the anime.

algelic algelic says...

These two shows are extremely similar, both focusing on a teenage girl with a big dream and trying to make it. The only difference is that in Kaleido Star they focus more on things like gymnastics and dancing, while in Glass Mask it's about acting.

StriderAJR StriderAJR says...

Both Glass Mask and Kaleido Star tell us a story about hope, dream and a difficult path that lies beyond those who will try to archive those dreams. But in the end all with strong and willing hearts will find the way to overcome obstacles and even weaknesses in their own hearts.

Both animes have similar plot structure, similar character development and character types: a diamond in the rough, strict teacher and a big bunch of friends always willing to support the main character. But though sometimes you feel like watching the very same anime with different names, places and only switching between theater actors and circus acrobats, you’ll never feel bored. Yes, those stories tell us same things with different decorations but the way they are told leaves only positive emotions.

If you liked Glass Mask or Kaleido Star you will definitely like the other.

I have watched 23 episodes of Kaleido star but these series are totally same. If you have enjoyed one you will like other for sure.

The sheer passion that both Maya and Sora have for the stage keep any viewer captivated for 50 episodes that go by all too quickly. Beautiful visuals accompany both as these two girls learn the true meaning behind becoming masters of their craft and what it truly means to captivate an audience.

Very similar and hardworking protagonist who are both pursing stage/ arts. Both are sad and fairly long and have EXTREME hardships. I really truely enjoyed both shows and I wish there were more animes like them.

Young girl entering showbiz for the first time, although in Kaleido she's joining the circus, and in glass mask shes joining the world of acting. The main plot is simular with how the main characture is really gifted at preforming and there's a legindary preformace that she wants to do, but almost no one can.

Nodame Cantabile

Nodame Cantabile

The studious and uptight Chiaki is well-known as the top pianist of his school, and dreams of becoming a world-class conductor like his idol, Viera; but his fear of flying (which makes studying abroad impossible) combined with a recent break-up and dismissal from his piano instructor causes that future to seem both bleak and unlikely. After collapsing outside of his apartment, drunk, Chiaki inadvertently meets a young woman named Nodame who, while quite talented at the piano, is unclean, clumsy, and haphazard. Despite being almost polar opposites, the two begin to grow closer and work, together, to overcome the obstacles in their careers.

The Glass Mask is a masterpiece made by a perfectionist. It is by far the #1 anime on my list. It will grip you starting with episode 1 (just try to not show emotion at the swim scene) and will not let you go.

The stories are similar in how characters gradually become  world-class performers.

Watch the OVAs as well. :)

Glass Mask and Onii-sama E have a similar style of execution; I also feel that the atmosphere is the same. Although Glass Mask was made in 2005, it still maintains a "classic" shoujo feel like in Onii-sama E. Both titles talk about friendship and romance; it is presented in a similar manner.

maylai maylai says...

Glass Mask and Oniisame e (Brother, Dear Brother) are both about a young girl that struggles to find her way in life and has many dramatic/tragic events on her way.

Also, since they are both based on older manga the atmospheric feeling is very similar. For example the old-school character design and animation, and at the end of each episode a narrator foreshadows the coming events. The story pacing may seem slow but the suspense is very high.

The romance also has some similarities in that it takes some time for the main heroine to realize her love while being fascinated or attracted to her counterpart long before (sometimes against her own will).

Both series have strongly pronounced storyline and characters. Every new episode teaches us something new  and showes us how the main characters improve their skills. The competitiveness, the theme of friendsheep and self-perfection makes these series similar.

pan4os pan4os says...

Both series are about the path to perfection and twist around two rivals, who respect each other, who stimulate each other to advance, where their confrontation is highly moral and sometimes looks like friendship. In fact, the relationship between them is something bigger than friendship and challenge, and it is awesome!

The only serious distinction: Hikaru no Go is about/for boys, Glass Mask is about/for girls. However, I guess Glass Mask would be interesting to boys too.

Both Glass Mask and Chihayafuru are sort of like sports anime with a bit of a shoujo feel. The main characters work hard, spend hours practicing, and enter gripping competitions - all while keeping a romantic interest on the side.

hannahfaith hannahfaith says...

Both very entertainging, both focausing on a stubern female lead who will do everything in her power (not in an evil menicing way) to acceive their goal. They are both teenage girls, so there's also your regular teenage girl drama, although that is not highly focused on, because it's not the main plot. Either way the charactures in both shows are just wonderful, and you'll deffinitly fall in love with them.

Hitohira

Hitohira

Asai Mugi's everyday life is very much impacted by a singular problem: she suffers from extreme shyness. Her sole friend Touyama Kayo would like to help her out as they've just entered high school, but Mugi's shyness is the sort that steals her voice entirely. It is too bad for Mugi that a freak shout on her part attracted the attention of Nono Ichinose. Nono is on a mission to save her Drama Research Society, and she isn't prepared to accept shyness as excuse from on-stage performances! With a small group of close friends to encourage and educate her, Mugi will be given a chance to be more than she is now. But, can someone so terribly shy really become a stage actress in just a few short months?

Both series tells us about strongly pronounced characters, what are going to score a success. We can see how the main chacters go through all the difficulties in sport/theatre. Every new episode makes us more and more interested in what's going to happen in future. Both series are not about a short period of time, no. It's about years of hard work.
