Enter Jinto, a nobleman and ambassador of the recently acquired Hyde system whose duty is to represent his peoples' interests and rule on the Abh's behalf. In order to be officially coronated to this position, a cold-but-beautiful Abh princess named Lafiel arrives at Hyde to escort him back to the empire's capital. When they are suddenly attacked by an anti-Abh liberation front, however, the festivities are cut short, and the two must flee for their lives against all odds.

For the past several hundred years, though, most of man’s territory has been politically and militarily dominated by the Tytania clan. However, their grip of power begins to shake when an admiral from Euria, Fan Hulic, preposterously manages to win a battle against an armada commanded by a Tytanian duke. Now wanted by Tytania, Fan Hulic flees from one planet to another. His travels will lead him to many places and many people, all of whom finally have hope that the hated Tytania can finally be defeated.

Four years after Celestial Being's disastrous showdown with the Earth military, most of humanity is united under a single government: the Earth Sphere Federation. A-LAWS, an autonomous task force established in the name of preserving peace and security, is in reality responsible for the brutal and oppressive enforcement of the Federation government's will. The remnants of Celestial Being notice that the world is no better off in the wake of their actions four years ago, and in fact is largely worse. Feeling the need to take responsibility for their past actions and set things right, Setsuna and the rest of Celestial Being begin re-organizing, preparing to intervene in world affairs once again.

In the 24th century, the planet's fossil fuels have been completely consumed, forcing humanity to use solar power as the primary source of energy. A huge solar energy system orbiting the planet was eventually built, anchored to the Earth and providing it with power through three orbital space elevators. As a result of the expense of such a large-scale project, most the world consolidated into three factions: the Union, the Human Reform League, and the AEU. Despite their common reliance on the fragile orbital elevators for energy, however, humanity still continues to constantly fight wars and build up arms. A paramilitary organization called Celestial Being, equipped with incredibly powerful mobile suits called Gundams, fight in order to force humanity to unite and eradicate armed conflict.
