Gintama is my most favorite anime (the first 316 episodes anyway). This season is all serious and just completely changes the forumla. Had it been mixed in with 50-100 other episodes, the scoring would be different, but I have to base it off these 12 specifically. To take a post I made in the forums that states how I have viewed Gintama "I think any fan can't deny that we fell in love with Gintama for its extremely unique random humor and parodies you get no where else. That was all I saw it as though, that unique random humor that can put a smile on your face and get a laugh out, no matter how good or bad your day was, and I couldn't have been happier with that, and it's all I wanted and needed"

This season comes off as completely ignoring what made Gintama so successful and what I loved so much, and turned it into one of the worst anime I have watched. You don't mess with something when you have a good thing going. The random, humor filled formula is not present, instead, the 12 episodes are all just serious. To me, this is some odd anime that feels nothing like Gintama anymore, and is just using the characters to make some profit. The Arc in question is called Battle of Rayuko and involves the different main galatic villains and players such as Kamui, Umibouzu, Yorozuya, Shinsuke, Katsura, and the factions involved with those characters. Then there is something about Gintoki/Katsura/Shinsuke's teacher. They get involved in some sort of serious war. A chunk of the theme takes place in Space and it doesn't help that I absolutely hate space themes.

I don't know if the writers forgot what humor is, or what made Gintama successful, but it felt like a waste of time and was just disappointing. Episode after episode, you hope the Arc is over and things go back to being funny and their silly, random self, but that never comes. I had to force myself to watch this just to get through it. 300 episodes later is not the time to start trying out a new style for a long-running anime. The cast is incredibly small, barely see Elizabeth, same for Sadaharu. None of the characters from the Kabuki district or the Shinsengumi either.

Even if I look at this from a story and serious standpoint, completely trying to ignore all the past of Gintama, it still remains the most boring thing I have seen. The theme just doesn't remotely draw me in or seem even a touch interesting. The pacing is extremely slow, talks way too much, and lacks action. There are also too many flashbacks, which remind me of those Naruto fillers. That may be the best word to describe this, Gintama fillers.

Characters are getting a low score because there is a lack of a huge part of the core cast. Sure it has Gintoki, Kagura, and a few others, but they also aren't even funny here. Sadaharu just wasn't around much either.

If you like your anime to be serious, this will be interesting for you. If you are a major fan of the first 316 episodes like myself though, you may be extremely disappointed. Sound goes on the similar route as there is a lack of the recognizable Gintama sounds.

Skip this season if you don't like the initial episode or 2, it never takes off and gets any better.

This is an anime that I knew about for some time but refused to watch because I watched YouTobe videos and I only saw comedy. When I finaly made up my mind to watch it I didn't even got through the first episode wich is an one hour special. All I saw was just a comedy. It didn't impress me one bit. After some time I was told it isn't just a comedy and that there are arcs with serious scenes, amazing plot and action/fight scenes. It took me about 20 episodes to get used to Gintama humor and plot. I began to like the anime when it made me smile and laugh without even realizing. When the action arcs came I saw that it truly isn't just a comedy. I was wrong. My heart began to skip a bit during those intense arcs. Boy,the action was so good! Slowly but surely,I began to freaking love Gintama and its characters. The author must be a really special person with a good sense of humor because it takes a one of a kind person to create a one of a kind anime. If you like to laugh your a$$ off and also enjoy astonishing action in between,I recommend GINTAMA,hands down the "King of comedy". 😄If you think this anime is "just a comedy" like I thought before I watched it,you're in for many, many surprises!

Gintama.
Gintama Season 5

This season was exactly what I was so afraid of.

Gintama was always an excellent and bizarre comedy that at the same time had serious themes and story-relevant arcs. These consisted mostly of 3-7 episodes and could still hold up despite barely mediocre pacing. Due to the sympathy of the characters and the atmosphere, one liked the arcs and fights no matter how monotonous and flat they became.

But this season is completely dedicated to the battle on Rakuyou, between the rebels, Yoruzuya and Kamui's as well as Utsuro's army.

Some humorous scenes and a shockingly masculine fight by Katsura (thanks for only seeing him fight 1x like that, what a waste) helped this arc out considerably.
Apart from that, it was immensely shallow, had very slow pacing, the episodes dragged on forever and practically nothing relevant happened except for episodes 1-2 and 11-12. Everything else just barely achieved average quality.

[Story 3]
The plot of this arc was minimal, in terms of content it was just a battle that went on too long. Some essential characters were finally defeated here and done.

[Characters 5]
One finally contained the entire plot of Kamui and some details about various characters, including Utsuro. Other than that, the characters have been much less convincing this season.

[Music 6]

Osts as always good, only due to this slow pacing the music was often used questionably or not at all.

The intro is anything but my taste and didn't fit much with the so far quite satisfying style of Gintama. The previous intros have all been a trap visually, but musically they have been very impressive.

[Animations 5]

Average, nothing more. There have been minimal moments of brilliance, other than that they have been mostly slow, empty, and without any dynamic. And this is not even the worst season of Gintama.

[Conclusion

Every fan was certainly happy about this season and so did I. Qualitatively, however, it is far behind the previous ones. It would have been better to shorten this season and possibly attach it to another season.

Once again we must turn to the teachings of Buddha who once said:"Read his damn reviews only if you're old enough to drive a Chevy otherwise you'll spend eternity gently massaging Pears Morgan's balls."

Well do you have to ask? It's fucking Gintama we're talking about here,of course i would bloody rate it with 10 all over. Why you ask?Let me explain.

Know what?Scrap that.I don't need to explain.Gintama as i said before in another review,is now and forever the KING.I wouldn't care if they wrote a whole season with Gintoki farting and puking hairballs,i wouldn't care if it ate one of my eyes or legs.I'm just in love with it.And there's a perfectly good reason.

Gintama does what it wants to do,it is what it wants to be and doesn't apologise for it.Most of all though it has character and soul.I keep on going about the X Factor, well this has it in spades.Everything about it is unbelievably good. It's unique,it's special and special is what i'm on about here.

You see most animes just throw some generic shit and call it a day and small minded idiots praise them, either because it hits them in the feels(i'll kick you in the balls or in the c@nt if you're a woman, see how that pans out)(see i'm not sexist,i hate all of you just the same)....Or because they're easily digestable.Let me put it this way. There are animes like Kanon, praised by millions for...whatever reason. These animes are cheeseburgers.Rat meat cooked poorly by Keith who has the hygienic properties of a septic tank.Eaten by millions who don't know shit about food. They know about obesity though..A LOT.Then we have Gintama.Gintama is a Gordon Ramsey's dish. The best of ingredients, gathered together to make you have an orgasm with each bite. The man is so cool he even killed his kids pets...For fun..

I don't want to go through the motions with this one, cause i'll just spend the rest of time talking endlessly about it and you'll get bored. What you need to know is that Gintama is a show that needs to be watched before all else.I don't have and i don't want to find words to describe it cause i'll end up ruining it.Just take some time off your bullshit anime and watch it.Cause Gintama isn't just an anime,it is a game changer.

You know, some animes are gonna be remembered for 2...3 years time? This will always be remembered as the best of the lot.And that my friends is something only a handful of animes have achieved. It's odd,it's bold and i love it.And so will you,i'm sure.
