While Cosplay Complex centers on cosplay, dressing like anime characters, Genshiken is centered on everything otakus do but it also has a lot about cosplay, if you like otaku things and specially cosplay you will like these two series.

Kari5 Kari5 says...

Both these shows focus on otaku and their love and dedicated for their hobbies, and the extremes they'll go to. Cosplay is the main focus of CC, but Genshiken has two characters who are very interested in cosplay.

A point to consider is that Genshiken and Kujibiki Unbalance are related in an unusual way because the nerd gang in Genshiken are all diehard fans of the anime "Kujibiki Unbalance".

If you liked Genshiken, Kujibiki Unbalance should give you in idea of what these characters liked as an anime, and then made doujins from.

If you liked Kujibiki Unbalance, you can share the hype with a bunch of fictional nerds who also like Kujibiki Unabalnce.

unitzero unitzero says...

Kujibiki Unbalance is the anime within an anime featured in Genshiken. They are made by the same studio and absolutely a must see if you liked either one. The don't have anything to do with each other plot-wise but being that members of the Genshiken after school club constantly talk about Kujibiki Unbalance, and you see scenes from the anime (before it was even produced) makes this required viewing. If somehow you happened up Kujibiki first then do yourself a favor and check out Genshiken.

Both are great titles who deal with the otaku culture in a similar way. They both present many aspects of the otaku lifestyle as well as some of the major "otakuish" events like conventions at the Tokyo Big Site or Budokan idol live concerts mainly through a mix of comedy and romance.

ashman711 ashman711 says...

both series deal with the Otaku culture, where Nogizka Haruka is in anime and is very saccharine, Genshiken tries to portray itself in the real world with realistic characters found in the Otaku culture.

Although Genshiken's focus is more on general otakudom, both series poke fun at anime's tendency to sexualize underage girls. If you liked the offbeat parody of one, you should find something to like in the other.

While Genshiken and Denno Coil deal with completely different subjects, they both emit similar tones throughout the series.  Both have groups of multiple characters who hang out in clubs, which results in making up most of what they do every day.  The realistic and complex characters and the slight comedy create the same feel for both series.  If you like anime that has great characters these are right for you.

Loving anime, games, and manga is an easy thing to do in Genshiken. Have you ever tried making it? Love Get Chu shows viewers how hard voice actors/actresses work to make a perfect anime. It has drama, comedy, and romance with morals from the heart. You may appreciate the manga, game, and anime industries more after watching it.

Both series give you the same comforting, comedic feeling of a group of people who grow to understand and be with each other. Both series have unique characters that you learn to love.

If you like anime like Genshiken, that show people sharing experiences with another, then you'll like Love Hina, which shows the same thing.
