MD Geist II: Death Force

MD Geist II: Death Force

Since the activation of the Death Force program, mankind has virtually been wiped off the face of Jerra by brutal, flesh-eating war machines. A pocket of survivors live inside an island fortress led by Krauser, a MD (Most Dangerous) soldier. However, unlike MD Geist who lives only to fight, Krauser is motivated by his own ambitions for fame and power. The final battle between Krauser and Geist approaches, and with endless machines on their trail, there appears to be little hope left for humanity.

Both of these animes are about the ultimate killing machines. MD Geist is set in a post-apocalytic world whereas Genocyber only features this in the last two episodes. Both however feature lots and lots (and lots) of graphic violence and both of these feature an antagonistic character who has an inflated ego whilst ruling a city of survivors. The similarities are quite striking so if ultra-violence rocks your boat then these are animes to check out.

These are two anime that revel in their violent themes without putting much thought into the plot. Both anime send the blood and guts flying by the bucketful.

Genocyber has a convoluted and frankly dumb plot, but Geist has little to no plot. So if you're looking for some older style anime high on action then check out either of these shows.

Brad Brad says...

Cheesy, hyper violent 90's OVA's are generally pretty alike, and these two are no different. Each goes full throttle with the violence at the expense of a plot that makes any sense, or even at the expense of a plot at all in the case of Geist.

If you love your cheese and violence, then you should get a kick out of each, but if you're looking for more depth you will leave disappointed.

Elfen Lied

Elfen Lied

For Kouta and Yuka, finding the bloody naked young girl on the beach would change their lives forever, for better or for worse. Unable to speak or function as a normal human being, she is named Nyu by the duo, and taken into their home in an effort to save her. But what neither teenager knows is that this innocent young girl is actually a killing machine -- an experiment gone terribly wrong -- and it is only a matter of time before the murderer in her awakens again...

If you thought evil laboratories creating killer girls in Elfen Lied made a good story for death, destruction and gore, check out Genocyber (and vice versa of course).

Both anime deal with girls with "special abilities" (to maim and murder mainly), tested upon in laboratories and driven to the brink of insanity. The stories in that sense are very much the same. In both cases you can also wonder who the real monsters are: the monsters or those whom created them.

In terms of gore and horror effects Genocyber probably surpasses Elfen Lied. Elfen Lied however is a lot newer and as such is better animated overall.

Considering these 2 anime are exactly 10 years appart the only thing that has changed is the animation. Both have lots of violence and a loner girl who has crazy powers in which she kills without hesitation. If you loved Elfen Lied check out it's older sister Genocyber and vice versa because they are carbon copies of each other.

Even though Genocyber is much older, whilst watching Blue Gender: The Warrior I felt that they have a few similarities. Both involve monsters in a post-apocalytic world and there is plenty of gory violence. If you like that sort of thing try these animes out.

Both of these animes are old school late 1980s/early 1990s violent sci-fis. They both focus on a being with superpowers and involve gruesome deaths. If you like one, then check out the other

GANTZ

GANTZ

But rather than finding themselves at the gates of heaven, the duo materialize in a room full of strangers and a giant black sphere known as GANTZ. As if dying once wasn’t bad enough, the occupants of the room are then forced to embark on dangerous missions to kill strange aliens; missions that very few return from. Now, Kei, Kato, and a well-endowed friend must fight for their freedom with an arsenal of guns, high powered suits, and a very low chance of survival.

Both have the same edgy attitude towards violence and abuse. Although the premises are different, it has the same dreadful atmosphere.

Both are unrestrained gorefests with cyborgs, nudity, and three truckloads of ultraviolence. Genocyber doesn't offer much in the way of a coherent story though, which makes it inferior in this regard.

Akira

In such a decaying city, feisty Kaneda and his shy friend Tetsuo survive by running around in a biker gang, chasing local rivals and generally evading the police. Everything changes, however, when Tetsuo crashes into a strange-looking boy during a bike chase and the military ends up taking him away. When he eventually returns to his friends, he’s no longer the same weak little boy they always knew – in fact, a military experiment has turned him into something beyond human imagination. While the military is intent on reclaiming its specimen at any cost, Tetsuo is sick of being bullied around and is about to show everyone, including his friend Kaneda, exactly who is boss.
