Each day, Rin awakens in virtual reality and uses a tablet which controls the simulation to create a new, different, beautiful world for herself. But all is not as it seems…

Both of these anime revolve around a virtual relaity that tends to change with the whims of the user. Both involve memories and the rather melancholy beyond the virtual space. Both are rather beautifully animated, have adorable female leads, and involve colorful, creative montages. If you liked one, check out the other.

Both can be considered tearjerkers, featuring young girls in virtual realities coming to terms with their memories of their worlds prior to being made a part of the system. Both place a strong emphasis on their music, Garakowa being a film with montage scenes, implementing several vocal songs into its soundtrack, and Shelter being a music video. Both were animated by A-1 Pictures in 2016, and both look absolutely stunning.
