Now, you might be thinking that I recommended these two because they are both CG, right? Well, you are wrong! The visual style specifically, as well as the twist intensive sci fi plot are what made me think of this, and I think it fits very well. The dark tone and mood, the suspense, and the wonderful sci fi aspect are prevalent in both, and I know you'd like one if you liked the other.

Both are wonderful sci-fi tales that are suspenseful and dark. Both are CG so they are different from the normal types of animation ova or movies. Archetypes Forces is way shorter than Rion but check one out if you enjoyed the other.

Kakurenbo: Hide & Seek

Kakurenbo: Hide & Seek

Near the ruins of an old and abandoned city, there is played a game simply known as "Otokoyo." It is said that when children play this game, they go missing one by one. Some say it is ghosts. Others say it is demons. But for Hikora, one thing is certain: his sister disappeared playing the game and he will do whatever it takes to find her, even if it means playing the game himself. He and seven others will do just that, all for their own reasons, and learn that rumors aren’t always fictitious. Escaping with their lives will become the main concern when this game of hide-and-seek turns deadly.

Both of these movies seem to be an opportunity for the graphics developers to show off what they can do with CG. Galerians is a little older, and now looks a little dated, but would have been very impressive in its time. Kakurenbo is absolutely stunning, and wouldn't look out of place as a cutscene in a game.

These movies have some very creepy undertones running through them, which makes them enjoyable viewing for any horror junkie. Though a little confusing at times, and without a satisfactory ending, I would say both are still worth a look-see.

While both seem to be compeletly different they have the horror element that ties them together giving them a similar feel along with a unique animation style. Both will leave you guessing what will happen next and have a moderitally satisfying ending. Check one out if you liked the other

Elfen Lied

Elfen Lied

For Kouta and Yuka, finding the bloody naked young girl on the beach would change their lives forever, for better or for worse. Unable to speak or function as a normal human being, she is named Nyu by the duo, and taken into their home in an effort to save her. But what neither teenager knows is that this innocent young girl is actually a killing machine -- an experiment gone terribly wrong -- and it is only a matter of time before the murderer in her awakens again...

Although Galerians and Elfen Lied definitely don't have some things in common (the ecchiness in Elfen Lied, for one), both of them have a very dark, very supernatural plot that involves a ton of violence, and the same disturbing feel. I think if you appreciate the darkness in one, you'd like the other.

Both movies are inspired by great games. Both have nice 3D graphics and an interesting, complex story, which is hard to understand if one doesn't know about the game first.

When I was watching Grey, I kept thinking of Rion.  They have a similar dystopian society, controlled by a mother computer.  Both discover that society is not all it seems and must fight to protect what's important to them.  If you like lots of fight scenes, both of these are recommended.

E's Otherwise

E's Otherwise

In the not too distant future, discrimination is based not on the color of your skin, but the psychic powers you possess. Night Head Genesis

Night Head Genesis

It is said that humans fear what is different, and that such fears drive much of human behavior. Naoto and Nayao learned the brutal truth of this statement when they see the looks on their parents’ faces, the day they were sent to an isolated laboratory to live out their youth. Their crime? Possessing inherent psychic abilities. Yet now, the brothers have escaped and are at last free to experience the world, but they soon discover that their prison was also their protection from the outside world. The question is, are their powers more dangerous to themselves, or those around them?
