Since this anime is so underrated and the only other review has rated it badly too, I figured it's my job to advertise this anime a little: it's really not as bad as it may seem at first glance. In fact, it's pretty glorious. Gakuen Handsome is a short episode comedy series based on a visual novel, which parodies common tropes found in BL manga/anime/VNs etc. Story and characters It's hard to talk about the story when it's really just a setting for jokes. In any case, a boy transferring to an all-boys school and learning about (gay) love does not sound all that spectacular. But it's a good setting for what the series wants to do, which is to serve some good comedy to the viewers. The characters are all quirky and memorable. Whether they're weird or cool, none of them are boring, and personally I love them all. Animation The artwork and animation in this anime are crap. And it's done on purpose. Strange, isn't it? But it works wonders to enhance the comedy, and I don't think it'd be fair to give a bad score for animation if the fact that it is bad makes the show better. Who doesn't love some pointy chins? Sound The VAs do a great job, but in the sound department the voice acting is completely overshadowed by the greatness of the OP and - even more so - the ED. Seriously, if that isn't the greatest ED ever then I don't know what is. Overall Don't start this if you want a show with a complex plot or great animation. But if you want a good laugh, Gakuen Handsome won't disappoint.
Other than giving me a complex about how chins are drawn in anime now, there is little to say about this show. And if this is based on a visual novel, I don't plan on playing it. It looks like a webcomic (and that's truthfully being really cruel to webcomics) that was giving a few moments of movements. While I realize that this was a short, there was little set up or plot, the characters were none existent and did I mention the fact that their faces are frightening? Their chins are not normal. I saw this is labeled a parody and yes, I can see that. The "main character' has no real face, the way people react, etc. makes sense (to a small extent) in that respect. However the fact remains that the only redeeming aspect of this show was how short the episode was and it remains some of the longest minutes of my life. This show is almost certainly a your milage may vary one and I can't help but feel that I'm really missing something. But if you don't like less than decent animation, I wouldn't recommend this.
I think this anime is underrated. There wasn't a story, it was an episodic anime. I don't know the why I likedd this anime so much, maybe its a parody anime and I had so much fun. It was totally making fun of the classic events that never change in animes-its a parody anime- It was pretty funny. I laughed hard a lot. But something really surprized me, the seiyuu (voice actor) cast was really amazing. I mean usually in these kind of animes, that doesn't known by a lot of people has got an incredibly amazing cast.. I was surprized but thats a plus-and I liked it. Maybe a lot of people won't like the animation but there wasn't a big problem because one of the main thing is the animation. Like, making fun of the animation and character designes. Who needs a knife when you had those chins? Anyways, putting the joke beside, I liked the opening so much. It was totally obvious that they never spent money on that OP but this is the part of its beauty. It was singed by a seiyuu that I like and they were making fun of the generic anime OPs too, but visuals were awesome too. I lost it when the blue haired guy was holding the wires. If you don't ike parodies, don't watch this. This isn't for you. If you didn't liked the cringy jokes, this doesn't for you either. Just drop it before you lose your time. But if you liked it its an awesome parody. In brief, you'll hate or you'll love this.
