Reasons you might like Deadman Wonderland...

HammerHead7 HammerHead7 says...

Both Deadman Wonderland and Mirai Nikki have a male protagonist that is thrown into a life or death situation and a female companion with a dark secret that somehow ties into the story. Beyond that both anime have a kind of dark setting that seem to push the protagonist to the borders of sanity at one point or another. If you like one im sure you will like the other.

Justaway Justaway says...

In both series the main character is pushed into a world of madness and where power is everything if you want to survive. In both animes there is a girl who seems innocent at first but in reality carries around on a heavy and very dark past.

The powers in those two may be diffrent, but they feel very similiar and they are also both quite dark, so if you liked one, you'll like the other.

funtoo2 funtoo2 says...

I definately agree that one would like Mirai Nikki TV if they've watched Deadman Wonderrland, and vice versa. Both animes have a young boy as the protagonist and a young girl who helps him. Both boys are "weaklings" and are pushed to the edge of sanity, while the girls are both somewhat insane and hiding some dark secret. If you like Psychological, Mindf*ck, Survival, High Stakes Games, Action, Horror, and Violence tagged animes, and loved either Mirai Nikki TV or Deadman Wonderland, then this is definately the right anime for you! :3

chii chii says...

Both anime are about a boy that gets tossed into a situation where he must fight for survival. A girl whom he doesn't know gets really close to him and will do pretty much anything to make sure he survives. Both have a good amount of action, violence, and blood. Check one out if you liked the other!

A lot of blood, girl sidekicks. Death match. Ordinary, weak, crying protagonists. The girls are really strong. Supernatural involved.

8MangaMan 8MangaMan says...

Both series give off a "Creepy yet amazingly made anime" vibe.  Both are about a young teenage boy forced to get used to the fact they will be playing a game for their survival, as well as making allances along the way that might get broken.

TotalCode TotalCode says...

Both are bloody and graphic, but have an engaging plot that even the more squeamish watchers may enjoy

Atalea Atalea says...

In Deadman Wonderland and Mirai Nikki the main character obtains a power. Because of this power they end up in a survival game. They must defeat others with the same power in order to break free. In Mirai Nikki it is vital that the main character battles the others in order to change his world. In Deadman Wonderland they are being forced to battle to each other while they don't want to. They are trying to break free from the game, while in Mirai Nikki the main character plays along. Both anime have a lot of gore and a girl that has an innocent and dark side. The main characters are very weak and useless at the beginning but become stronger along the way.

MEsA1337 MEsA1337 says...

They got the almost the same action. They both got over powerd girls, lot of blood, super powers (kind of) and they are all school students. But i think Mirai Nikki is more of a romance story then Deadman Wounderland. If you like one of them, you should definitely watch the other one!

icesplitter99 icesplitter99 says...

both animes are having a male protagonist which is forced by someone (mirai nikki = God/ DW = Judgement )

to kill other humans with the same ability as themself.

In both storys is psycho-terror and gore as well as inhumanity and insanity a big point...

In these stories is always one girl which will protect the male head protagonist.

Thorndrop Thorndrop says...

Deadly 'games' in which characters face a great risk of death. Main characters Ganta and Yuki are similar in personality and are surrounded by people who cannot be trusted, for they may end up killing each other.

Faimojo Faimojo says...

These both animes are somewhat same as the lead character is wimpy and all while the female leads are psychos or are stronger than them and protect them.     Both the leads Ganta and Yuki, are stuck in a game/place.

Better watch the other if you like this one. :)

Etue Etue says...

A dark theme running through the show and a protagonist down on their luck assisted by a mysterious girl.

Truepicasso Truepicasso says...

I strongly agree both anime got crazy storyline, are soaked in violence, got main male characters that are in the beginning very weak and terrified and then becomes stronger (mentally), both female main characters are schizophrenic/(got)multiple personalities, and both stories are linked with some kind of survival game, if you like action, crazy stories and violence you probably should  watch both of them, 5/5

Mirai Nikki and Deadman Wonderland have the same "feel". Although the plots are different, i'm pretty sure you would enjoy both. It's like Pandora Hearts and Kuroshitsuji.

SURVIVAL GAAAAAAME. ...That is really the largest part of it. I peronally loved the high tension of both series.

IKindaLoveAnime IKindaLoveAnime says...

These two anime are VERY much alike. A protagonist who considers himself weak and cries a lot, a heroine with a dark secret, and it's all based on a survival game too.

Very similar in feeling. If you love one you'll love the other.

Fargo Fargo says...

Both of these anime show really depraved experiences and have plenty of shock value in both gore and psychological effect. The two mains both start as frightened, whiny boys thrown into very adult scenarios and are forced to grow up fast. Both have plenty of decent action and horrific suspense.

jessj4 jessj4 says...

Both very clever and brutal plots. I have always paired them together as very similar but both unique in my mind !

ali0889 ali0889 says...

Mirai Nikki and Deadman Wonderland remind me so much of each other.  Both have a weak male protagonist who is in way over his head when he is thrown into a life or death situation, and basically now has no control over his life. Both males are protected by girls who harbor a dark secret and each is full of gore. Mirai Nikki is alot more twisted in my opinion, and the anime went a lot of different ways, for me it was unpredictable until the last moment. Deadman Wonderland was a little predictable at times but will still pique your interest, if you like one you will like the other.

Underholy Underholy says...

These two anime are very much alike. A protagonist who considers himself weak and cries a lot, a heroine with a dark secret, and it's all based on a survival game too.

Mirai Nikki still is better...

both give off the same feel/ atmosphere. they both have young male protagonists fighting to stay alive with the help of a young lady that wants to protect him.

ichighoul ichighoul says...

Both are fights to survive and fairly gruesome. Both main characters are boys with dark hair who are introduced to a setting where they have to fight to live. The main females in these animes are both really strange and eccentric, being experienced in the 'art' of killing. Neither characters are in a position to escape their situation, and both are close friends. If you like one anime, you'll like the other as well.

IchiRukiloove1 IchiRukiloove1 says...

Both are survival games! With a main male lead weak and useless. However, Ganta (DMW) says that way and shows little strength! Both blood and gore. Mirai Nikki is more romance. Personally I like Deadman Wonderland more because I think it has a better plot!

Feans Feans says...

I personally think that Deadman Wonderland and Marai Nikki resemble each other a lot. They both are very dark themed with a lot of blood and gore. They both have a protagonist who in the start is very innocent but slowly looses their insanity. Both protagonist is also supported of a girl character.

theSentinel theSentinel says...

Both of these animes have similar themes,  but that is not to say that they are the same.  They have fundamental differences in the tone, and direction of the story.

the driving force for my recommendation is that they both have epic stories, different, but epic.  Deadman wonderland is short, but there is more in the manga and will probably continue.  Mirai nikki is finished, and awesome.

the way that the story built up and twisted and then build up some more just in time for another twist was awesome.  Also the ending was not dissappointing so take that with you and go watch Mirai Nikki.

casualterror casualterror says...

Both have tons of gore and both main characters had no choice in the situation that they were thrown into. Both of the main characters are considered weak and have the female main character protect them.

HiddenNugget HiddenNugget says...

Both anime have main characters that are suddenly faced with a situation of life or death, accompanied by a girl with a dark secret.

snivets snivets says...

Many people have noted the similarities here and I definitely agree. In both shows, the protagonists are thrown into brutal survival games and forced to make terrible choices. A dark atmosphere helps keep the suspence high as the characters are pushed to their limits. If you like exploring the darker side of human psychology, I think you'll find both shows to be quite thrilling.

Gavia Gavia says...

Both have horror elements and the same tone, as well as somewhat similar main characters. Both contain yandere characters.

If you like one you should check out the other.

SakoChan SakoChan says...

They are similar from many sides, or at least that's the impression I was left with. A bit gore, hard-to-understand crazy characters, the constant fear of death, and so on. You'll definitely like Mirai Nikki if you liked Deadman Wonderland, and you'll definitely like Deadman Wonderland if you liked Mirai Nikki.

Two very amazing anime in all.

Both stories feature a morally "weak" character facing life-or-death circumstances while teamed up with a mentally unstable female love interest. They both feature a significant amount of gore/violence and utilize psychological testing plot twists.

These are both series that are "survival of the fittest" type of stories. Each is in a game to survive. Both protaganists are followed by a mysterious female lead. Neither series is shy about killing off characters and the pacing seems comparable between the two.

Aurora3500 Aurora3500 says...

Both are about two boys who get involved in life or death games, with a mysterious female that is obsessed with protecting them. Several of the other side characters show similarities to certain "counterparts" in the other series.

They both have a dark action packed psychological thriller coolness about them, with a boy and his weird girl sidekick tearing shit up.

RoyalOss RoyalOss says...

In Mirai Nikki and Deadman Wonderland both main characters get caught in a game about life and dead. The story differs as in Mirai Nikki one must become a God and in Deadman Wonderland they must survive in the sick games of the prison owner. Deadman Wonderland however is only half finished, for the full story you can continue with the manga.

treyj98 treyj98 says...

They feature girls that are mysterious and in love with the protagonist, who starts off weak and not a threat. They both also aren't shy of illing, and follow a same general pacing. If you like one I strongly suggest the other.

Both anime are excellent psychological animes with lots of gore. Mirai Nikki is definitely the better of the two as you feel a closer connection to the characters.

wonkuenoemos wonkuenoemos says...

Both of them have same plot where the protagonist forced to killing another person as long as he want survive. Psychologically intense.

Phyren Phyren says...

While they both have very different plots, both are about playing "a game," the main protagonists, the male ones, are rather.. weak, until about halfway the series, they man up. Each series is unique. Deadman Wonderland focusses on convicts who are forced to play in an "amusement park" to amuse regular people and Mirari Nikki is about people who are selected by "god," to play a game, they all own a "future diary," which is their phone. It is a game of life and death in which they all have to kill one another, though is it way more complicated than that. They are both amazing anime and I recommend them both!

RyanMinLwin RyanMinLwin says...

They are both similar survival game players and filled with some romance and tragic moments.

Quadsar Quadsar says...

Both contain traces of the less popularized elements of horror - rather than resorting to cheap jumpscares and fear themes to provoke an imitation of horror, both series take a closer look at humanity's potential for depravity. Deadman Wonderland and Mirai Nikki are both psychological horror, without huge amounts of fear themes.

Mochacatisfine Mochacatisfine says...

Both of these series have a consistent dark theme. The main characters are followed by a girl that will do anything to protect them. These both have a lot of violence and action. Both plots have the main theme of survival. I think if you liked Shiro in Deadman you would love Yuno. Both characters have a lot in common. Give it a try I don't think you'll be disappointed.

Death Note

Death Note

Have you ever felt like the world would be a better place if certain people weren’t around? Such grim daydreams might occur when watching the dismal daily news, but on one fateful day, Light Yagami finds that these daydreams can become reality. By pure happenstance, he comes across a black notebook entitled "Death Note", whose text within states that whoever's name is written on its pages will die. With the aid of the death god Ryuk, Light takes it upon himself to rid the world of its corruption, ushering in a new era of purity one death at a time. But as Ryuk foretells, Light's actions will not go unchallenged...

Aokidanza Aokidanza says...

Both Death Note and Mirai Nikki start off with the main character recieving a tool of potential mass destruction from a godlike existence. Even though the main characters are polar oposites in terms of personality, they both face similar challenges in which they have to use their tool to defeat -- in most instances, kill -- the many rivals they face throughout the series. There is a similar degree of mystery and suspense in both series; they blurr the lines between friend or foe, good or evil, and you never know when the enemy is going to strike next.

Survivals the name of the game, originalitys the claim. Both shows stand out because they are both pretty original for their genre and they execute their plots brilliantly. Both these shows have cliffhangers that leave you begging for more as the episode ends, and if anticipation was something you liked about one of these series than you'll no doubt want to check out the other. Both have a strong hold on death and never sugar coat anything. Plot is the main draw for both of these shows as the creators of both must have been brilliant to pull these off. Overall i feel if you like one, check out the other.

PurpleCatAngel PurpleCatAngel says...

Both are like a game of survival. The only difference is one predicts the future, while the gives someone death once their name is written. In the end, one or two of the main characters don't survive in the end.

Same creepy feeling and they both challenge common morals. They are both about kill or be killed.

Both anime have the same feeling to them and have a lot of suspense. Both have a lead female that is desperately in love with the main character and would do anything for him.

Ivvi28485 Ivvi28485 says...

they resemle eachother, like the killing part and the using a girl part. Like when Light Yagami (Death Note) is using Misa for the killing and Yukiteru (mirai nikki) is using Yuno. Only Yuno preffer the fast kill not the clean, so it get a little bloody.

poorbabydabi poorbabydabi says...

I must say that the future is literally as well as figuratively in the hands of the characters in both Death Note and Mirai Nikki! Having watched some episodes (but completed the manga) of Death Note, comparatively-speaking, Mirai Nikki has powerful similarity.

The battle between supposedly good and evil is subtle in Death Note, but the human desire for power is even more well-presented in Mirai Nikki.

The drama and suspense in both series is excellent. Both of these anime are also greatly executed anime counterparts of their original manga series.

If you enjoy death, high-stakes, and realistic but overdramatized (for the sake of entertainment) characters I highly recommend both Mirai Nikki and Death Note!

Shiryuki Shiryuki says...

Both of them are Survival Game, Horror, and Psycological in Genre. This anime reminds me of Death note.

Lightuke Lightuke says...

Following the main characters, they must engage in a battle of wits and strength in order to survive this supernaturally enhanced battle royale.  Less intimate than the L/Light relationship, but with more characters who have fairly flushed out characters and motivations.

We all have a bit of crazy in us. Some have a bit more. Altough they differ a lot from each other, I think that anyone who likes the Yagami charcater will also like Yuno. Also the story is very similar, with a lot of planning to win againt a nemesis, respectively a battle Royal. We also have deities that are more or less just spectators.  Death Note is much smarter, also Mirai Nikki has way more action, but I think that if you enjoy one, you will enjoy the other.

A hint: dont let DN become the standard when you are looking for "smart" anime, the only one on par with DN is Code Geass, Mirai Nikki is one level lower, but fun!

Both shows keep you guessing, and both are full of mind blowing moments. Both mostly have dark elements and are about killing people off, however they both also have great comic relief charcters within them. Mirai Nikki is crazier and explosive, whereas Death Note is more calculating. Personally prefer Death Note. If you like one of these though you might like the other.

Both animes are essentially death games, where the more you find out the more complicated the storyline gets. They also hold a supernatural presence in a modern day setting.

While mirai nikki is much simpler in some aspects to death note, I like the overall stylistic feel to every character's (main and otherwise) design in mirai more. I also feel they both give off a dark vibe and the main characters morality shifts over the course of the show.

Both shows are about a very average, if not shy, high school boy who's life becomes filled with girls and axes.

lefabsie lefabsie says...

Both series introduce the carefree lead male characters to a world where it's kill or be killed. Taking sides, making allies and watching your back are necessary for all the characters in both series if they want to survive. The cast of Higurashi, however, could be considered a little more fortunate due to having more chances. The Mirai Nikki characters, not so much. Rena and Yuno are very similar - cute and girly with a yandere side. Despite Yuno showing far more of an interest in the lead male character than Rena, the two hold a striking resemblence to one another. Mirai Nikki definitely has great potential and I feel could do great things to the psychological thriller genre.

ShadowsOfSarrow ShadowsOfSarrow says...

This series really reminded me of the physiological horror you would find in (When They Cry/ Mirai Nikki). You have your messed up nut jobs, your past-tormented charicters, and many insane plot twists!

Yuyunarutoballz Yuyunarutoballz says...

Both Higurashi and Mirai Nikki (When They Cry & Future Diary) have a similar feel to them. You might even call Mirai Nikki a cross between Higurashi and Death Note. Future Diary is about survival of the fittest, with a touch of mystery and mindf*ck. Higurashi is about a mysterious curse that also has a mindf*ck that is later cleared up when the sequel series Kai is added to the mix. Overall both of these series are a great match for each other and play more on your mental state of mind than your physical (which is why i believe they are better fit for each other than Deadman Wonderland, which is more physical state of mind)

itoshiki94 itoshiki94 says...

Quite simple: Rena resambles Yuno. Both are yandere girls which kills acording to their feelings.  Altough, Higurashi is not linear as Mirai Nikki, but both of them are psichological animes that you must see.

Both shows have a heavy emphasis on the psychological and have many moments that just leaved you stunned. They both are very dark with characters thrown into situations where they are forced to make decisions to stay alive whether they be good or bad. Both also have a very messed up cast of characters with deep pscychological problems. If you like anime with a dark tone, blood, messed up characters, and a very suspensful story chances are you'd like Mirai Nikki and Higurashi.

Aurora3500 Aurora3500 says...

Both feature dark themes involving death and insanity. With characters of both shows having psychological issues. Both animes contain characters you cannot put into black-white-depiction that easily.. They often like to drift off into insanity and therefore create unbelievable creepy atmospheres that will make you shiver :) Mirai nikki has got more dramatic and story within but Higurashi stands out for the amazing characters and their actions. I am sure if that if you´ve loved one you ll love the other!

Mirai Nikki and Higurashi are both psychological thrillers filled with bloody deaths and violence. Both series also contain supernatural elements, while remaining highly realistic.

While Mirai Nikki has a more direct plot, which advances faster, both series contains twists and turns. When it comes to characters, both anime have their share of properly developed personas walking on the brink of insanity.

If you enjoyed one of them you may certainly find the other to your liking.

renadesu3 renadesu3 says...

Both Mirai Nikki and higurashi revolve around the whole psycological mystery idea, and they both yell at you to solve the various mysteries the main characters have thrown at them. (Higurashi to a larger extent). I also think that Yuno and Rena bare striking similarity to each other, they're both girls with sharp things who are cute for the most part but show a dark, ruthless side. I find that higurashi has alot more humour to it, especially at the start of an arc before shit goes down and everyone is having super happy game time, but if you like one anime, you'll definately like the other

Both shows are survival games where the main difference is that in mirai nikki one has to kill another in order to survive, and in danganronpa it's more one guy killing another and then the rest of tha cast trying to solve who did it. If you liked Mirai Nikki or Future Diaries you'd almost for sure like Dangan Ronpa. Eden of the East

Eden of the East

In the year 2010, on a day called ‘Careless Monday', ten missiles hit the cities of Japan; miraculously, there are no casualties and the event quickly fades from public memory. Some time later, Saki Morimi decides to visit Washington, DC on her graduation trip to America, but that day begins a series of bizarre events. After getting into trouble with the police, she's rescued by a young man who is completely naked save for a gun in one hand and an even stranger item in the other - a phone credited with 8 billion electronic yen and a female voice on the other end called Juiz who will fulfill his every wish. Having no recollection of his past and calling himself ‘Akira Takizawa', the young man accompanies Saki back to Japan in the hopes of discovering who he is. Akira's enigma quickly proves fascinating and Saki decides to help him rather than reunite with her family; but what neither realizes is that Akira is embroiled in a dark game of life and death linked to the Careless Monday missiles. Has Saki just made a terrible mistake, and can Akira unravel his own mystery before they both lose everything?

Both titles have similar plot: few chosen people have some special phones, wich give them amazing abilities. And they have to fight each other somehow. They team up and decieve each other. Both titles have similar feeling in them.

anosora anosora says...

THE PHONES. That is the first similarity. A survival game including PHONES in which they are matched with other players to be the first one to win. Either GOD or WORLD.

Utawahaha Utawahaha says...

Both anime have a focus on High stakes games. Coincidentally, both have 12 main participants. Both have prominent male and female leads, and a romance subplot within. Both anime have colorful characters as the game's participants, in addition to side characters not participating in the game. Both anime share 12 participants that range from friend, foe and neutral towards the protagonists. Both anime can also be described as psychological. Finally, for what it's worth, the main tool used in the game for both anime are mobile phones. The feel is actually a little different between the two, but they share so many basic elements that if you like one, you're more likely than not to like the other.

TotalCode TotalCode says...

The teme is similair: the protagonists are forced inot a survival game, they're numbered, and genreally followed by death

Carnificus Carnificus says...

The basic premise of both of these series is very similar. The most apparent similarity one would notice is the emphasis on a survival game and changing the world. Both shows revolve around the idea of using special devices (most often this is seen with cellphones) in order to outplay the other people in the game, when only one person is left standing that last person is given the power to change the world. While Eden of the East is much more grounded in a realistic setting both series have a fair amont of mystery, comedy and romance.

PorcupineHead PorcupineHead says...

They are both Hi-stake games with phones and 12 contestants...but that's where the simillarity ends.

Higashi no Eden is more like mysterious political thriller with extermely sympathic guy and nice girl in the lead while Mirai Nikki feels more  like another Higurashi and main characters are crybaby and psychopath

Kanariya Kanariya says...

People with mobile phones are participating in survival game where the winner can change the world.

DeathWatch DeathWatch says...

Both animes have a use for their cell phones while playing high stakes games. Both have romance within two main characters and suspensful moments within the anime. Make sure if you watch all 11 episodes, go watch the 2 movies that go with it.

Aitrus Aitrus says...

Both are games of survival involving cell phones and trying to outsmart the other players. While Mirai Nikki is definitely more on the mature side with killing and lots of adult themes Eden of the East is more political and a lot more mystery. Eden of the East is about a guy thrown into a game of survival while also trying to figure out who he is and making friends along the way. Mirai Nikki is about a kid thrown into a brutal survival game with a bunch of psychos and lots of messed up stuff happens.

LumpyKiyay LumpyKiyay says...

Both of these shows are about select people using their special phones to strategically seek out and eliminate all other players in order to gain a high status. Some have good intentions while others have foul plans. Both shows have great art, too.

shayladang shayladang says...

Both series has a similar idea with cellphones. In the anime the boy is in a game of death where he has to track the other cellphone users. He uses his cellphone to help him.

Gavia Gavia says...

Both are high-stakes games where the very survival of the characters hangs on winning. Both of which contain the usage of extraordinary cell phones.

The shows grow similar as characters team-up, decieve and fight to win the game – leading to a dark tone and a mystery feel.

Madoka Madoka says...

Both series are a suvival games style in which each series players gain a phone with some "enhanced" feature, Eden's phones was to improve the country and each phones shows what others are doing, basically a competitive/eliminative game style whilst in Mirai Nikki the phones show other users actions whilst giving people insights to the future in different ways both which is to create a last man standing type scenario.

The series basically follow a lot of the same traits as one another and share a lot of similar plot developments. Though Mirai is more focused on murder and Eden is strategy they are quite a like.

ryanshowseason2 ryanshowseason2 says...

High stakes and phone related, Mirai is more supernaturally oriented though and Eden of the East is more of a Bourne conspiracy like take on the concept.

Mu254 Mu254 says...

While I prefered Eden of the East over Mirai Nikki, there is not denying that they are similar. They are both thrillers although the former is lightened with the use of humor. Both main characters have phones that give them some form of power over the events in the series [although the word power here refers to control and not supernatural abilities or the like]. They both have spects of romance though it is very differently themed in each series and also it is not one of the main themes. They each have a close companion and help from some other characters.

ShowerOfSunshine ShowerOfSunshine says...

Both shows progress through the show through a life or death survival game with the use of mobile phones

itoshiki94 itoshiki94 says...

  • Survival
  • High Stakes Games

Those are the main features, for me, to watch an awesome anime. I also like the mature themes in BTOOOM, they make it more "realistic", and seinen as well. Mirai Nikki is more shonen, but still you will like it.

dezzi dezzi says...

What itoshiki94 said already. Both are survival game animes, where people are pretty much forced to kill each other off. Btooom! looks a bit more serious than Mirai Nikki though, which I like. Really nice action also.

Thrawn Thrawn says...

Violence! Crazy people! Psychlogical breakdown! A high stakes game where only few can survive, both shows are about death games and the end goal of getting rid of the opposition. Randomized weapons and tools are given to them with the world (Island for Btoom!) as their stage.

are both games hwere people have to fight to the death and the boy anf girl fall in love with each other during the game

Bloc97 Bloc97 says...

I would recommend both animes since they both have very close similarities. To begin, the goal in both is to kill everyone (in Mirai Nikki) and to kill 7 people to get their IC chips (in Btooom!).

The only difference is that when you win in Mirai Nikki you become god, while when you win in Btooom! you only get off the island (To get sent back later... [not a spoiler]).

Both have some sort of plot twist at the end, and will make you feel bad. They all have a touch of romance too.

I wouldn't recommend these two animes to younger kids, since they are both psychological and very violent.

Well both are survival shows with a lot of ppl dying.  Btooom is set on a remote island where the MC is made to enter this survival game based on a online game he is the best at. Same themes a struggling to survive and even kill other contestants while in both the MC teams up with female counterpart to make it. Very intense and strategy goes a long way in btooom as they have to use different variations on bombs as the weapons to kill.

HeadBanger90 HeadBanger90 says...

Both are action filled and exciting. Btoom does not have a yandere character in it though which is a must for me :D but still I enjoyed both of them alot!

Okay, both these anime are based on a situation where a group of people have to fight each other for their lives. Both have romance in them, also I'd like to add spoiler free , that both anime have satisfying romance elements. Not just silly no conclusion no choice etc. Both awesome anime as well! Also I'd also like to add that both the main characters are bad ass in their own ways. =)

TobyGoRawr TobyGoRawr says...

Both are people, who's been forced to a life and death game. The main characters get romantic and tries to win together.

alp2va alp2va says...

Both have very similar premise, storyline, and tone. And unfortunately, both also have pretty unlikable male leads. But if you were able to tolerate that in one show and still enjoy it, the other will be right up your alley too!

hellhammer6789 hellhammer6789 says...

The concept of fight or die is a very simple recipe for an exciting show when you sprinkle it with a variety of different characters. Both these shows do that and makes sure to give you all the bloody death battles you could wish for. Their plots have several gaps and holes, but that is hardly the reason one would take interest in a show like this. Its simply survival of the fittest.

Both have battle royales with the main character's development playing a huge role in it. Also, Yanderes.

murder0 murder0 says...

I'd say in this instance Darwin's Game is far better than Future Diary. The characters feel more flesh out, the main protagonist feels more relatable and it isn't solely reliant on others. They both follow the same concept of a group of people being entered into a death game against their will, however, Darwin's Game does a better job of giving each character their own identity with interesting powers and reasons for fighting.

joywolf83 joywolf83 says...

Feature a last man standing game to the death. There's a girl that helps the boy out tremendously. Boy starts off in denial and naive.

blissinapricot blissinapricot says...

These animes are both about male main characters being sucked into games where they have to kill to win. Alongside the protagonists, these animes have a female character linked to them as partners. The characters share similar behaviours in both these animes, and there's a similar development of the protagonist throughout.

AshleyB AshleyB says...

The protagonist in both animes is unwilling involved in a game where they have to risk their life to survive. In both animes, players of the game are granted a unique ability, much like a superpower, to help them survive.

While there are similarities between the two protagonists (they are both reluctant to kill in the beginning, but they both adapt to it with time), the difference between the two is more apparent. While the main character in "Future Diary" is somewhat cowardly and relys on the support of another, the main character in "Darwin's Game" is determined to survive and, while he does build up a support group over time, is able to fight by himself.

triskellionquinn triskellionquinn says...

Both are a twisted, thrilling series where the main character gets pulled into a deadly game where the only option is to play or die.

TheMiddleGround TheMiddleGround says...

Both shows have a similar concept. They are in some sort of game/competition and the only way to win is to kill your opponents. Also, each character has some sort of ability to help them in the game/competition.

PurplePeopleEater PurplePeopleEater says...

Both are about a male protagonist pulled into a life or death "game" involving cellphones. Both protagonists are followed by a female that's sort of obsessed with them and doesn't have any family of their own, though Yuno (Future Diary) is definitely the creepier of the two. Future Diary is a bit better in my opinion, but both are worth a watch.

catterall catterall says...

both are super fast paced battle royale type anime, i think darwin's game is considerably more fast-paced and disorienting however.

Mani200056 Mani200056 says...

they both have a muder game concept and theres also a girl on the side of the main charecter but darwin includes many more players than future diary

GeminiRabbit GeminiRabbit says...

The protagonists of these shows end up being forced to play a death game with their cellphones, and don't realize what they have gotten into until it is too late. They also obtain special powers from their phones as well. The characters in both series have a wide variety of different abilities.

Reasons you might like Elfen Lied...

animeandwwefanDXXD animeandwwefanDXXD says...

Both animes have a similar feel, and significant amount of blood and gore, although Elfen lied has way more (so far compared to mirai nikki) and is a lot more disturbing in nature/themes, but also both animes somehow manage to have this along with cuteness from the same main charachter that kills people - Yuno/Lucy and then they both develop a relationship with the main male charachter - yukki/Kota

so overall if you like gore/blood animes then you would like either, and even if you don't, you still might like them for the romance/cuteness!

i was reccomenned both these animes from my friends, and despite not liking gore, i still liked elfen lied for the romance/cuteness, and mirai nikki as well, so far has a really interesting concept.

Ebhen Ebhen says...

Yep! They are both about scary but cute girls that have no hesitation to kill people they think are in their way or are threatening to themselves or the person they love. :) There is a lot of violence and blood but you get used to it when the story grabs you.Elfen Lied surpass Mirai Nikki though in that area but the other have more psychologic approach. But to be honest, the show have a good storyline so you don't mind the gore and violence after a while. The connection between the two lead characters are the glue to hold the show together.

Mirai Nikki have an anoying and stupid main character that can drive anyone crazy but Yuno makes up for it somehow with here Yandere-style that is way of the scale! :)

(Mirai Nikki isn't finished when I write this so I can't say anything about the ending yet)

Has same plot bending, same horrifical kind of characters which live a dramatic love. If u loved Elfen Lied. Then this is what you should also love.

usagishiroi usagishiroi says...

Both have a deep story and heavy on the darkside. Mirai Nikki deals with a boy who is stuck in a avoidable situation, while Elfen Lied is about a girl who was was treated like a test subject and is "broken" mentaly. they both have to fight to live and both have to come to terms with whats around them. I would reccomend both of these anime more mature people due to the graphic nature of both.

TreeOfWolf TreeOfWolf says...

Psychos women with pink hairs. I love them. Very bloody, original, violent...

That's really all you need to know, no need to make me write more.

Quadsar Quadsar says...

Both Elfen Lied and Mirai Nikki are great examples of psychological horror. Though Elfen Lied is far and away the better of the two, Mirai Nikki is worth the watch as well if you're looking for a slightly longer series that still has strong elements of the psychological genre.

Heatseeker96 Heatseeker96 says...

Both anime have are quite similar (yet very different) to each other. Each series is centered around a girl with a split personality (Yuno and Lucy/Nyu both have a cute and a violent side), they contain very fleshed out characters, have a few unexpected plot twists, aren't afraid to show scenes with explicit violence or nudity... They also contained some interesting psychological themes. I personally like Mirai Nikki more because I think that one had a better story, but I do think that fans of one of these anime will like the other.

I'll keep this short and sweet. Future Diaries Yuno Gasai is just as psychotic and lovey dovey with Yukitero Amano as Hapy Sugar Lifes Satou Matsuzuka is with Shio. They might be different levels of love, both women will do anything for the one they love, including murder.

qp0db qp0db says...

both are excellent violent psychological thrillers giving many takes n viewpoints on how far one would go for love.

derpotrama derpotrama says...

These two anime are generally in the same kind of thriller. Whereas the pscychological horror in Future Dairy is more so in the complex and disturbing web of character relationships, Happy Sugar Life is more of a situationally disturbing show.

Both shows offer a gory and grotesque gallery of mentally derranged characters. Happy Sugar Life will have you questioning the morality of characters and leaves you at a loss when trying to determine whose motives were more just. Future Diaries is a rollercoaster of emotions that will have you anxious to ever really support any character for more than one or two episodes.

kurokam1 kurokam1 says...

the content is similarly dark, though Mirai Nikki is your average Shonen battle royale with a yandere twist while HSL is solely focused on a yandere

overall, happy sugar life is more unique story wise and objectively better, but Mirai Nikki is better pertaining to interesting characters and plot and Yuno is an elite character

knaifuwaifu knaifuwaifu says...

Both have yandere girls. If you don't mind lgbtq themes happy sugar life is amazing. Both girls have pink hair as well. It also has some common themes in the ending.

Mewkityy Mewkityy says...

Bright pink haired yandere that defends their loved ones from a bunch of psychos, not all of which have good intentions. The protag of Happy Sugar Life is a bit more messed up in her actions, but Mirai Nikki definitely more messed up in their mind. Their loved one is a bit more innocent and gets wrapped up in all the chaos.

Knikkee Knikkee says...

Happy sugar life follows a girl who is willing to go to great lengths in the name of love. Future Diary, although it has a different storyline, also has a main female character who is willing to go to great lengths for the one she loves.

Both of these characters, Satou and Yuno, have similar home life experiences which leads them to act in ways that seem rational to them.

If you liked one, I recommend the other.

GeminiRabbit GeminiRabbit says...

Both of the protagonists are crazy pink-haired yanderes who do not shy away from murdering for their love.
