Fullmetal Alchemist and Blue Exorcist both have to brothers that are working together to either to fix there bodys (FMA) or to become an exorcist (Blue Exorist)

Both shows take a good look at brotherly bonding to meet their goals. They are both surrounded by people they grow to love and respect along with evil foes that need to be taken down. If you enjoy characters with a strong will to do what needs to be done look no further than these 2 titles.

If you like shounen anime with humor, interesting powers, and a bit more dakness than usual, either Fullmetal Alchemist and Blue Exorcist should be a good fit for you. As an added bonus, both shows follow a pair of brothers whose relationship gets strained by the situations they're thrust into.

Both of these series are about brotherly bonding to save the world. With shounen tendencies, subplots about secret organizations, and some pretty wicked adversaries, these anime have a similar feel. The protagonists are also known to have mood swings and be pretty mischievous.

Blue Exorcist and Fullmetal Alchemist are similar in a few aspects. Both have brothers that are close to one another, and that the younger brother acts like the older. Both anime characters have 'Daddy Issues'. Theres also plenty of comedy from the two short older brothers.

Light hearted action anime with darker themes tied in. Modern anime can have an inconsistent tone, these two are no exception to that, but they make it work for them.

Honestly, Shonen written by women should be its own genre. Anyway, while FMA is much more serioues, but shows have strong casts, good action, and fun writing. Both also use their filled to good effect, providing solid character bonding moments both between characters and between character and viewer.

Claymore and FMA both take place in a fantasy world (Claymore's world is medieval while FMA takes place in a steampunk setting). They also are both traveling/adventuring anime. Both have a fair amount of action and violence, too. Furthermore, both in Claymore and FMA the heroes are members of a group of a select individuals who have powers beyond those of an average ordinary human. But the main reason for this recommendation is the fact that for me, these anime are highly addictive... so I think if you like Claymore you will like FMA and vice versa .

Himitsu Himitsu says...

I think you'll enjoy Claymore if you enjoyed Fullmetal Alchemist (and vice versa) because they both have enticing action backed up by intricate storylines. The settings and atmospheres are about the same as well.  Also, there's blood, horror, adventure, and much depth in the characters.  You'll definitely like one anime if you enjoyed the other; Fullmetal Alchemist has excellent opening and ending songs, Claymore has beautiful art and animation.

ino ino says...

Both animes have strong main characters and excellent plot, when you see one episode you need see more and more. Both have a lot of action, in Full Metal there are Magical skills and Claymore has sword skills and demoniac power. But all characters fight for the same reason, people that they lost in the past and revenge.

Both series are about protagonists who lost something dear to them in their past, and as a result, sacrificed their body to somehow regain them. However, doing so causes them to question if they are truly human anymore, and if so, can they hope to hold onto it or will they lose it forever?

chii chii says...

Both have characters that kick ass and have great stories to go along with them. Full of action and adventure at every corner both of these shows do not dissapoint. Even though both take place in very different worlds they feel the same because the animation is very similar and beautiful. If you liked one check out the other.

eaper eaper says...

Each series have a lot of fighting and some gore while maintaining a strong story. Beyond that, the main characters in each have something done to their bodies, making it possible to question their humanity, which often gets them segregated. Finally, each series has the main characters fighting against a strong organization for what they think is right, all the while piecing together an even larger mystery that is happening.

LittleChomp LittleChomp says...

In Claymore and Fullmetal Alchemist, you can't become the most powerful warrior without paying a serious price. At first glance, both alchemists and claymores look like normal people with the strength to help others, but beneath the surface lie the difficult choices that will determine how strong you'll become... and how human you'll remain.

hamletsmage hamletsmage says...

Both of these anime involve a protagonist that defies even their own anime's logic laws. The supernatural, intriguing plot devices, and some powerful individuals await the protagonist in each story. Plus, both protagonists belong to an organization meant to keep the peace, but which holds some interesting secrets. If intrigue, drama, and plenty of action are your thing, check these two out.

Pandora Hearts

Pandora Hearts

On the eve of nobleman Oz Bezarius's fifteenth birthday, he and his loved ones gather to celebrate in a coming-of-age ceremony. But after Oz steps under a long-stopped clock and the hands finally move once more - thus fulfilling a mysterious prophecy - he is violently thrown into the legendary prison known as the Abyss by three cloaked intruders. Existing in another dimension, the Abyss is home to lifeforms born within its walls known as Chains; these beings can only live in the real world if they make contracts with humans, binding their power to the person's body. However, there's a catch - in time, the human will be overcome by the Chain's power and then thrown into the deepest level of the Abyss. When Oz wakes up in the Abyss he is quickly attacked by hungry Chains, only to be saved by one named Alice - a Chain who appeared just before he was thrown into the prison. Together, the two make a contract and return to the real world, where they are enlisted into the Pandora organization - a group researching both the Abyss and the trio that threw Oz into it.  Along with members of Pandora, the duo searches to find Alice's lost memory fragments that are scattered throughout the world, to discover the secrets of the Abyss, and to determine if there's a way their contract can be broken without killing either Oz or Alice.

FMA and Pandora Hearts might not look similar at first glance, but they have a very familiar mix of genres and story progression - not to mention a heavy dose of darkness interjected between oft comedic and dramatic scenes. It's hard to explain why I think this is a good rec - it just is. I had an unmistakable sense of nostalgia when seeing Pandora Hearts, and I think you may agree.

Pandora Hearts and FMA are very similar. They are both about two main characters that are on a journey in regaining something that they once lost. Both series are filled with action and adventure and if you like one, i bet you will like the other. =)

Apeiron Apeiron says...

Pandora Hearts and Fullmetal Alchemist may not seem similar at first, but as you progress you'll see it. A dark kind of mystery is spread out between the action and comedy throughout both series. The characters of the shows also hold many similarities, these can be seen when comparing the relationship between Ed and Al (of Fullmetal Alchemist) with Oz and Gil (of Pandora Hearts), or Fullmetal Alchemist's homunculi with the Baskervilles from Pandora Hearts. If you liked one, I'm sure you'll like the other.

Kornera Kornera says...

The two anime's seem to follow the same kind of character development and story progression. With the darker tone storylines there is that occasional comedy thrown into the mix of the drama scenes to help keep watchers interested. Hard for me to completely explain the recommendation but the two series just have that matching scheme that can be noticed throughout the anime which I liked. If you like one or the other watch at least 4-5 episodes and you will understand they fit eachother.

AirCommodore AirCommodore says...

PH and FMA have really similar tones. Both are about young protagonists running around alternate-universe Fantasy Europe (kinda-sorta) that has a really dark and bloody past. Both feature a similar blend of dark mystery/action/adventure with a bunch of comedy to lighten the mood. PH's uncle and FMA's father are really similar. ALSO! Both has a giant cast mostly filled with bishounen, just waiting for fangirls to ship everyone up in improbable yaoi pairings.

NinjaPirate101 NinjaPirate101 says...

FMA and Pandora Hearts, may not look similar right away, but when you dive right in to it i am sure you will notice it to. Both main characters have lost something very important and are trying to retrieve it, from the world in which they have to travel. They both have traveling companions that are similar to both anime, along with the villains in each. They both have comdeic parts along with a new "darkness" entering it that gets you sucked into it even more! Just trust me if you like one you WILL like the other. xD

Secret societies, conspiracies, and multiple layers are just three things these two shows have in common. Both of these animes, I find, include doses of humour and both have a dark edge to their plot lines. While there are scary parts and realizations, the humour makes you laugh out loud. Both animes are about young teenagers that must take on a difficult adventure in order to seek truth, though these truths are different from each other. The main character in both animes must go through harsh realities to grow. Through both animes you really get to know the depth of the characters and come to understand and love them. Also, both animes are drawn out artistically well.

Attack on Titan

Attack on Titan

Over a century ago, mankind was devoured by giant beings of unknown intelligence and origin known as Titans – creatures that eat humans alive indiscriminately and for no apparent reason. The remaining population has managed to survive the last hundred years only by building a multi-walled city capable of keeping the Titans at bay, training military recruits to patrol the perimeter and gather intelligence about their mysterious foe. Eren and Mikasa have lived a relatively peaceful life behind the city's walls, but when a massive Titan appears, smashing the outer barrier and unleashing a wave of terror, their lives are brutally changed forever...

Both of these series feature an angry young soldier motivated by the death of his mother and dealing with the horrors of war. Both series are also set in a European-ish setting that feels historical but doesn't quite fit into real-world history, with strange-but-cool technology. Also, both series feature a mysterious father figure with a secret that might solve some of the series mysteries.

It's not a completely perfect rec--FMA has plenty of comedy in it, while Attack on Titan takes itself VEEEERY seriously (for the most part), but I definitely think they have a similar appeal.

VivisQueen VivisQueen says...

Both Fullmetal Alchemist and Attack on Titan achieve something special in the shounen genre: they manage to make a fantasy-based action show say something powerful about relationships and personal sacrifice. Both series build unique worlds you won't have seen elsewhere, with excellent plots that seem to rejuvenate the shounen genre. The fighting sequences in both are also spectacular in the way they are conducted. While Edward Elric from Fullmetal Alchemist is a much more memorable shounen hero than Eren Jaeger in Attack on Titan, you will nevertheless find that the shows deliver equally broad palettes of characters from which to choose your favourite.

These are very similar, although FMA is a lot lighter. Both are very philosophical (ie, "What is a human life worth?"), and both offer realistic and relatable characters. Additionally, perhaps most importantly, both present a very realistic world for their characters to survive in (althogh this applies more to Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood than FMA).

A journey searching for something that seems unattainable, with the aid of magical powers and all kinds of strange people met along the way. These series are not exactly mirrors of each other but they both have a lot of darkness and leave you feeling sad for the chars alot of times. You just want them to finaly get what they have been searching so long for.

VivisQueen VivisQueen says...

I would recommend these two anime for the fact that they approach fantasy worlds in a similar fashion. Firstly, they share the theme of sibling love conquering all. They both also present a unique technical twist to 'magic' e.g. there is balance in alchemy in Full Metal Alchemist, which must be calculated, and then there is the interesting web-like look of magic in Scrapped Princess, where the caster’s skill at chanting the commands affects the magic. Both anime also maintain strong tragic undertones throughout which keep them from veering into the realms of silliness. FMA is far more of an epic than Scrapped Princess, with a bigger host of in-depth characters, but if you like the approach in one, you’ll like the approach in the other.

Reawen Reawen says...

Scrapped Princess and Fullmetal Alchemist are both about families (siblings) who stick together to overcome all obstacles. In both stories, the siblings have encountered a lot of tragedy and have done something society deems "wrong" for the sake of family. The Casull siblings and the Elric brothers are both traveling throughout the series, and encounter many new people and beliefs along the way. Although there is a lot of adversity, they also meet people along the way who befriend and support them, despite their 'wrong'-doings. Both series also have elements of fantasy, magic (although Fullmetal Alchemist refers to alchemy as science), and solid fighting skills. Fullmetal Alchemist is longer with more twists and in-depth sub-plots, but Scrapped Princess doesn't slack in the story-line, and fits a lot into its 24 episodes. I think if you liked one, it's worth checking out the other.

yuujin yuujin says...

First, "Scrapped Princess" and "FMA" share a similar kind of magic power, although in Scrapped Princess you don't have to draw circles.

Second, both leading characters are somehow cursed and wanted by the baddies.

Third, the number of episodes in the series, jokes and drawing style are almost the same, so if you watched one of them, you won't get bored watching another one.

dreaming0 dreaming0 says...

The characters in Scrapped Princess and FMA are depicted on a journey where secrets about the past and present are revealed. The combination of fighting and magic provide fast-paced action, and the character development for both stories is good. If you like the animation in one, you will probably like the other because they are from the same studio.

Cetonis Cetonis says...

Fullmetal Alchemist and Scrapped Princess are two fantasy series centered around a group of siblings who go on a journey seeking a return to normalcy. For the Casuls it's because Pacifica is being hunted, and for the Elrics it's because their bodies are no longer human. Both main characters have some difficulty in morally justifying their actions, and in both anime the siblings find themselves becoming involved in something that goes well beyond their simple wish. Although Fullmetal's added length makes it the deeper and more complex of the two, Scrapped is by no means simple. Fans of one of these shows should feel right at home watching the other.

skarlet13 skarlet13 says...

Blood is thicker than water, even when you shed it for family. FMA and Scrapped Princess show us the importance of brother/sisterhood, while weaving epic plotlines and revealing truths about their worlds that only their unity will help them overcome.

nax nax says...

A strong tragic undercurrent is felt in both SP and FMA. The main characters both have a lot of pain built up inside. Another factor is the strong bond between the siblings, causing them to fight for each other.

Arcanum Arcanum says...

Just like Fullmetal Alchemist, Monster is a dark anime thriller which is bound to keep the audience on the edge of their seats. Monster, though, makes no attempt to cater to children, and does not use chibi moments to soften the atmosphere or to cut the tension. Furthermore, because the storyline flows so fluidly in Monster, suspense is well-paced and deftly managed. For those not faint of heart who enjoyed Fullmetal Alchemist and its roller-coaster epic, I highly recommend Monster.

Singan Singan says...

Both anime are dramatic detective thrillers with analogous plot: a kind and somewhat naive protagonist does a good deed that results in terrible consequences, and he embarks on a long journey to correct his mistake, where he gets opposed by inhuman murderers manipulating other people. The main differences are the setting and the protagonist's age, but the essential similarities still make them a fine recommendation for each other.

hamletsmage hamletsmage says...

"You've Lord of the Rings'd the series!" as my father would say. Both of these anime have the main characters wandering around a vast world, looking for something or someone important. Corrupt politicians, an underworld of danger, and some mind-bending mysteries await the protagonists as they search. With a wide, well-written cast and beautiful landscapes, these anime have plenty in common.

inuj22 inuj22 says...

In both series, the main characters are searching for something incredibly important. Ed and Al are looking for the philospher's stone, and Tenma is looking for Johan. While both animes are about completely different subjects, they both delve into the psychological aspects of power and its abuse. Also, the tiniest of details that seemed insignificant at the beginning end up making a gigantic impact at the end!

MushiMaster MushiMaster says...

Though opposite genres, Monster and FMA share very similar overarching themes in what it means to take a life. Where with Monster it is to prevent more deaths from occuring at the cost of proving the villain that anyone can be corrupted; Fullmetal Alchemist approaches it from the angle on what lengths Ed and Al are willing to go to get their bodies back and save their friends. Both shows are also steeped in corruption of the government from secret police to puppet leaders controlled from the shadows. Monster and Fullmetal Alchemist are must watch shows for any fan of psychological dramas.

Thematically, Blood+ and Fullmetal Alchemist don't have much in common, but I think they're of similar quality and share some aspects. They both run about the same length and might appear as typical action shows from afar but really focus on story and character over the next new villain. They aren't tangibly that similar, but I think if you really like one you'll probably like the other.

freakzilla freakzilla says...

Both Blood+ and Full Metal Alchemist have nothing to do with each other on the surface. Yet after taking a deeper look, all of the components for success are the same: there's a strong storyline, a lot of character development as they uncover more of the truth, and the supporting figures who interact with the main character.

MeloColi MeloColi says...

Both Blood+ and FMA are a bit dark, have a little bit of gore, and lots of action and fighting. Only in Blood+ the main person fights with a sword instead of with spells and powers. Also Blood+ is about vampires and FMA isn't, but I think that the feeling you get with both anime is the same. I really recommend them; if you liked one, you'll like the other.

Rizu Rizu says...

Both FullMetal Alchemist and Blood+ delve into the dark points of human (or non-human) nature, and both feature intense battles, mostly of a good versus evil nature. Although, often the character thought of as "bad" or "evil" is later revealed to have more facets to their character than that.

Blood+ initially seems to be a dark and bloody tale, but quickly expands to more than that (relationships, maturation, world-saving, the works), while FMA seems to work in slightly the other direction, though neither sinks into utterly depressing territory-- hope persists in both.

Obiyer Obiyer says...

The same adult themes are there, and the way they try to scientifically address the ideas they are presenting, FMA, alchemy, Blood+, a species resembling vampires, is done in the same spirit. If you enjoyed learning more about Alchemy in FMA you'll also enjoy learning about chiroptera, as it's represented in Blood+. Be forewarned though, if you enjoyed the chibi humor in FMA there is none to be had in Blood+.

phoniefly phoniefly says...

They look to be regualar action shows where it is all just fighting and gore. But both have a story line they both lead up to things instead of endless fighting. they both show what it is like to do anything for the person you feel closer to whether it be the two brother or saya and haji.

anonymousone anonymousone says...

Specifically the comparison is between Blood+ and Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood (as I had never watched the original adaption).

Both series are much more similar than initally thought to have been. The biggest difference between them is that Saya's role in Blood+ is more akin to that of Von Hohenheim's in FMA:B since their the ones who rival/match up the best with the ultimate antagonists of their own respective series.

- Both series make an example to cover subjects such as atonement and human experimentation.

- Both series have great character development as well as some passive antagonists.

- Both of them have powerful organizations conspiring against the world and a resistance groups to face them. (Cinq Fleches vs Red Shield / Homunculus vs Roy Mustang and his allies)

The other differences are is that Blood+ is heaver on the romance and that FMA:B has an overall more lighter atmosphere.

If you like either one of them then the other should suit you just as well seeing as how both complement each other very well when it comes to the similarities.

Maranee Maranee says...

Both shows are of similar length with a detailed storyline with character development as well as action scenes. Therefore both animes are (until now) my favourite ones.

Both are stories of a long journey searching either for Diva or for the Philosopher's Stone.

They both include topics as friendship/family, war (which methods ethical or non-ethical methods are used to win) and overall the question whether to be or not to be human.

Chances are, if you enjoyed the interactions between characters in one show, you'll be able to find a match in the other. In fact, it almost seems like Fairy Tail and Fullmetal Alchemist are the same group of people in parallel worlds. Magic and alchemy. The military and the guilds. Full Metal Alchemist & King of Bandits Jing has a similar feeling to them, even if Jing lacks a continues story throughout the series (which FMA has). It's hard to put the finger on something in particular, but they are pretty much alike imo.

There is no way to really explain this, so I will just say, watch it. You'll immediatly go "Hey! that seems familiar". But in actuallity, Jing and Full Metal Alchemist are strikingly similar for some odd reason. It's the attitude and atmosphere I believe, which makes both series incredibly enjoyable to watch, and makes you crave more!!!

sublime sublime says...

Great characterisation as well as stylish art and animation are what pulled me in with Full Metal Alchemist and King of Bandit Jing. The fact that Jing doesn't have an ongoing storyline throught its episodes, (the longest story arcs take about 2 episodes) doesn't detract from the fact that both of these series are thoroughly enjoyable fantasy romps. Jing can sometimes seem more on the magical side, but I think the comparison is well made with well fleshed out lead characters who you'll cheer for all the way through.

King of Bandit Jing and Fullmetal Alchemist share the same feeling and energy of adventure. The main characters of each, Edward and Jing, share very similar dispositions at times. They are both kids, yet highly competent in their own fields and share a sense of adventure. If you liked one, you'll feel right at home in the other.

The characters in both of those animes are quite similar in appearance as well as attitude. Both are quite confident in their skill and end up in weird situations, where their skill ends up being very useful. Also the girls seem to like them both fairly lot. Both of the characters also travel around with a close friend (in FMA case it is a brother though), without whom the success of their adventures would be questionable.

FMA and Jing both have that same kind of atmosphere to it. It's really hard to point out what exactly is their relationship but when you see one you're reminded of the other, even if just slightly.

Ed and Jing are only a little similar, but like I said above, as you watch one you are slighty reminded of the other.

Though, whereas FMA does, Jing doesn't have a consistent storyline.

Last Exile

Last Exile

In the world of Prestal, Noble men perform noble deeds for noble purposes. All of this is performed under the careful gaze of the Guild, a race apart who live in cities in the sky. We see this world through the eyes of Claus Valca and Lavi Head, as their travels take us above, beyond and through Prestal, and their actions cause ripples that shall never fade.

Both of this series are top notch adventure anime that met my every expectations and them some. Last Exile and Full Metal Alchemist are the few animes that pulls you into their world with its wonderful plot and animation. An original and refreshing atmosphere emits from these two animes and you can't help yourself but love these titles. They are both highly recommended to any anime lovers out there :)

Last Exile and Full Metal Alchemist are both action/adventure with good animation in each. They both have two young main characters that journey together on their own to discover answers for their questions. Each series is entertaining and has its own lessons that the main characters learn throughout the series.

Fullmetal Alchemist and Last Exile are both about two young boys trying to make things right, journeying across the country to find a way to restore their lives to what they once were. They both also have a very good story and very likeable characthers. If you liked one, I think you'll like the other.

The pair of close kids who've lost their parents and are out facing the world trying to prove themselves is a theme that both Last Exile and Fullmetal Alchiemist share. Also Alex Rowe (captian of the Silvana) and Roy Mustang (flame alchemist) share a likeness...but that just might be me. Also the animation is quite similar, although Last Exile relies more on computer generation in many scenes. However Fullmetal Alchemist is definitely a better anime, so Last Exile may be a step down...but if it's the other way around, enjoy! See!? The cup is always half full!

Last Exile and FMA gave off a really similar feel- the two orphaned teenagers who grew up together striking it off on their own, becoming entangled in the military, meeting similar types of people, the conflict between various factions of people, as well as the technology in the two series looked pretty similar. Additionally, they're clearly intended for the same audience, so if you liked one, check out the other.

Both of these anime involve a a wide cast of characters and some interesting technology (automail and van ships). Both are set in an industrial-age like setting, and both are are excellent adventure stories. The main characters are a duo of youngsters that follow in the footsteps of their parents.

A young duo in search of a legendaric object, one by choice the other by chance. The protagonists both excel in their field desite young age. Throw in some cool technology and epic scenes, and at least I am sold!
