The Vision of Escaflowne

The Vision of Escaflowne

Hitomi was just a normal high school girl, until she was taken by the mysterious Van Fanel and dropped into a world of romance, magic and giant sword-wielding armor suits! Now Van, pilot of the famed armor suit Escaflowne; and Hitomi, whose hobby of predicting the future just became a frightening reality, must work together and fight the advanced technology...

I see Escaflowne more of a fantasy version of Full Metal Panic, and not just because both have mecha, but I can even can see the same love-triangle in Escaflowne as in Full Metal Panic. Since escaflowne has less humor than full metal panic, the characters of the escaflowne characters can't be the same as the full metal panic ones. So in order to see this similar triangle: switch the genders of the characters and change the arrows of the onesided love to: FROM hitomi (or TO sakara if you as reading this via escaflowne). As a last point: Both series hava a mayor bad guy, though the one in escaflowne is alot more oassive than the one in Full Metal Panic. Whole different seting, though if you liekd the mecha and the onesides love tirangle, check out Escaflowne. If you liked the little comedy in Escaflowne and liked the Mecha. Go for Full Metal Panic

Just like Full Metal Panic, Vision of Escaflowne is an excellent anime with incredible mobile suit battle robots. The action comes pouring throughout this story, which is a cool combination of Medieval and futuristic styles, of kings and knights, and of giant flying fortresses up in the sky. Escaflowne is one of my most highly recommended anime series.

A young girl suddenly finds herself thrust into a strange new world of mecha combat, with her only protection being an overly serious ace mech pilot, and the strange abilities she possess that even she barely understands.
Code Geass: Lelouch of the Rebellion

Code Geass: Lelouch of the Rebellion

In 2010, the Britannian Empire enslaved Japan using powerful mecha known as Knightmares; in the aftermath Japan was renamed Area 11, and its people began a hard and terrible existence. Lelouch, a Britannian student living in Area 11, has grown up hating the Empire and everything it stands for. One day, in the middle of a terrorist attack, Lelouch meets a...

FMP and Code Geass both excel in 1 thing: mecha action! Mecha isn't my genre at all, but with the addition of both military tactics and an un-Earthly weapon that isn't too overpowered; even i have to admit that you can find another anime to your liking by completing these two anime.

If you liked one for the giant mech fights, then you'll surely like the other. The fights the characters go through also mess with their lives outside the battlefield, causing a struggle to keep both sides in check.

If you liked FMP, you'll likely enjoy Code Geass because they both have a lot of mech fighting, are centered, at least most of the series, around high school, and have some mysterious powers endowed within the main characters.

Gargantia on the Verdurous Planet

Gargantia on the Verdurous Planet

In the distant future, the human race is on the brink of destruction. Mankind, which now drifts in space aboard a massive, technologically-advanced base known as Avalon, is poised to launch one final, desperate attack against its enemy, the alien race Hideauze. It’s during this battle that Ledo, a mecha pilot, is thrown into a wormhole and sent to an...

The two main male characters from FMP and Suisei no Gargantia are similar in that they're members of the military who find themselves in situations they are totally unprepared for. Whether it's Sagara navigating school life without the use of guns or grenades, or Led coming to terms with living in a society totally unlike his own, both shows show us what it might be like to make a military-to-civilian transition.

Similar protagonist relationship and personality, both are based on individuals who are out of thier comfort zones.

The similarity between the 2 are striking, both military background with exclusion to all other things. There is small difference in mecha design. But a female companion whom they interact with is what changes their perspective to some better place. The main difference would be that full metal panic is more of a comedy where  Gargantia on the Verdurous Planet is more serious dealing with moral issues
