Ouran High School Host Club

Ouran High School Host Club

Ouran High is a school for the extremely wealthy or, in Haruhi's case, the extremely talented. But no amount of talent will help when Haruhi accidentally drops an eight million yen vase in a music room. The vase was the property of Ouran High School Host Club, a group of attractive young men who, for a fee, provide their time and affections for their lovesick clientele: the female students. Fascinated by this strange new specimen, a poor and clumsy commoner, they force Haruhi to work for them until the debt is repaid; but they get a lot more than they bargained for...

Ouran Host Club and Fruits Basket have so much in common it's difficult to know where to begin. They have similar situations between the characters, right down to the guys realizing they like her and fighting over her while she is oblivious. The character designs are also very alike. I'd venture to say I'd pay you 50 Turkish lira if you liked one and not the other!

If you took away the background stories, both Fruits Basket and Ouran Host Club would be the same. Both are hilarious and have similar characters, including the character designs!

sothis sothis says...

Fruits Basket and Ouran High School club are definitely not similar as far as plot, but they just... feel the same. Ouran is definitely a little more high octane as far as the random humor, but both have their touching and hilarious moments, and both have very very similar character designs (right down to the mix of chibi animation and regular kind). If you liked one, you'd surely like the other!

Roxas Roxas says...

Both are amusing, lighthearted slice-of-life comedies with female protagonists.

xaynie xaynie says...

Fruits Basket has the same light-hearted feel as Ouran High School. Both are inverse harem anime, where the woman is surrounded by men instead of vice versa.

Both anime have very similar characters: Yuki is very much like Tamaki in that both are highly revered by their peers and classmates and are looked up to as the leader within their community; Momiji is similar to Honey because they fit the genre of small cute boys who are older than they appear; Karezuma and Takashi both have a father complex due to an intertwined past with the recipient of their care; and Tohru and Haruhi both appear to be naive on the outside about certain things (especially romance), but are more inquisitive and analytical within their own thoughts.

Himitsu Himitsu says...

The type of humour used in Fruits Basket and Ouran High School Host Club is very similar, especially in the roles of the characters. All male characters have a cliche characteristic such as the cute/innocent, silly, and aloof. In both cases, a "poor" girl is forced into a "luxurious" world. The direction is very similar in that it's all-around comedy while still maintaining a dramatic center (near the end...). The main reason you'll like Ouran High School Host Club is that they focus on the characters more than the overall story. Lastly, there is hinted romance versus a complete exposure.

Reawen Reawen says...

Although the plots of Fruits Basket & Ouran High School Host Club are different, the series feel very similar. Tohru of Fruits Basket and Haruhi of Ouran are working hard to fulfill their dreams to make their deceased mothers proud. Both series are reverse harems, and have a diverse group of very unique supporting characters. Tohru & Haruhi influence and are influenced by the other characters throughout the series and there is significant character development as a result. Tohru & Haruhi are also relatively poor girls who are suddenly surrounded by rich boys, so they often come across as somewhat naive (although Tohru seems more in awe that she knows such impressive people, while Haruhi is more cynical about the 'rich bastards'). Ouran is a bit more excessive in it's random, explosive humour, but overall they somehow seem very alike. Every time I watch one series, I immediately want to watch the other next, so I think you will, too!

tigi0baka tigi0baka says...

The character of Tohru Honda is instantly likeable; she's a happy-go-lucky, kind and considerate person who just happens to be a little bit naive. These are exactly the character traits you find in Haruhi Fujiota, the star of 'Ouran High School Host Club'.

The similarities do not end there, both Tohru and Haruhi have lost their mothers and find themselves thrust into a world of crazy characters and strange happenings. The shows document how both characters, in their own way, touch the lives of those around them, bringing this about through comedic situations with elements of drama that will touch the heart. If you liked 'Fruits Basket' then this anime is an obvious 'next move'.

Both Fruits Basket and Ouran Host Club are funny and very entertaining, yet each has some characters who struggle to admit they're in love with another person.

wolfangel87 wolfangel87 says...

Both Fruits Basket and Ouran are about a reverse harem, making the girl the center of attention in a group full of guys. The series both also deal with morality issues that are expressed throughout the show with a great deal of humor thrown into the mix.

skye456 skye456 says...

If you liked the comedy and the many wonderful faces of Fruits Basket, then Ouran Host Club is your next bet! I thought I'd die laughing with all of the moping faces and growing mushrooms in people's storage rooms!

Apart from the same voice actor appearing in both (Honey-senpai and Momiji), the series are more alike than at first glance. Both of the main characters are outsiders who are accidentally let into an exclusive world. Little by little, their attitudes and personalities start to change those around them and even themselves.

shangriluck shangriluck says...

Ouran High School Host Club and Fruits Basket may have very different backstories, but the themes of each show are very similar (each containing a kind of "be yourself" message). The characters all share a sense of loneliness, and the heroine in each show is innocent and surrounded by attractive males that care about her (but don't necessarily have hidden agendas). Both shows are heartwarming and quirky and have a romantic feel, although their stories are built mainly on friendship.

hontokawaiinekochan hontokawaiinekochan says...

Both Fruits Basket and Ouran contain the same kind of humor. In both, there is a girl who is surrounded by boys. The characters are very likeable and every character's past is explained.

EnseiChan EnseiChan says...

Although they have nothing in common when it comes to storyline, characters or music, both Ouran and Furuba 'feel' very much alike the instant you watch one after having watched the other. It's the same almost crazy kind of humour, at times interrupted by moments of emotion or even great sadness (though rather rarely in case of "Ouran"). Also, in both series there are female protagonists surrounded by lots of handsome boys.

OneiChan OneiChan says...

As far as I am concerned, these two anime fit together like peas and carrots. If you liked one you will simply love the other, and for a smorgasbord of reasons.

Ouran High School Host Club and Fruits Basket 'feel' much the same when you are watching them and share a very familiar mood. Their humor is similar, and is sure to cause maniacal laughter on many occasions. Also, both of these anime have the power to grab hold of your heart, and pile drive you with an array of emotions. The plots may be different, but the characters will create situations in both anime that is very reminiscent of the other. Either of these shows is certain to provide you with an all around warm feeling.

Deiluvr Deiluvr says...

Both have a lot of the same humor and feel to the story line. A lot of the characters remind me of characters from the other series, for example Honey from Ouran and Momiji from Fruits Basket are extremely alike. While Fruits Basket can be a little more serious and Ouran seems to have a lot of humor, they both are worth a watch.

lustlove616 lustlove616 says...

If you like Fruits Basket, then you would also like Ouran High School Host Club most likely, as it is about a young girl who is surrounded by young men, who help her and become her close friends as she goes through adolescence.

If you liked Fruits Basket you would also like Ouran because they're both about a girl who unexpectedly gets dragged into crazy and bizarre situations and also falls in love. Awwww!

Fruits Basket and Ouran both have funny beginnings, and become sad near the end. Each has guys who get the chicks, and there's always an odd one out.

ZenithAstrali ZenithAstrali says...

If you've seen one of these anime and were left wanting more, then the other is a must. They are both very funny and share the same story about a poor girl taken in by a group of gorgeous and popular boys.

Both Fruits Basket and Ouran High School Host Club feature a kind, brunette main character who meets a vast array of people, all with distinct personalities. Each series contains an unexpected twist which is revealed early on and affects the rest of the show. Some male characters from each show seem kind of similar - Haruhi & Tohru, Ayame & Tamaki, Momiji and Hunny - so if you have a favorite character from one show you may find someone else to love in the other! Both shows have a wonderful feel-good family vibe to them!

sunshinyness sunshinyness says...

Both Ouran High School Host Club and Fruits Basket are funny series with hints of romance. The central theme for both is friendship and both have heroines who manage to see sides of people that were invisible to others.

faerieponey faerieponey says...

Both Fruits Basket and Ouran High School Host Club are centered on a poor girl who plays an important part in the lives of some rich men. She is the one who helps them and becomes their friend, and knows what they really need.

VivisQueen VivisQueen says...

You'll enjoy Ouran next because it basically spoofs the entire genre to which Fruits Basket belongs, whilst simultaneously attaining a similar level of deep characterisation by using individual episode arcs to delve into the lives of those it follows. Like Fruits Basket, Ouran mocks the whole bishounen gimmick, taking beautiful men and messing them up with weird traits. However, Ouran is slightly funnier in that it is far more comedy-based whilst Fruits Basket is a more accomplished drama.

kawaiipie kawaiipie says...

Both Ouran and Furuba are hilarious; they'll leave you in stitches. Furuba has a darke/thicker plot though. Both have characters with strong personalities that interact perfectly with each other. It's interesting that the heroines, Tohru and Haruhi, have such contrasting personalities and yet have good morals that change those around them (although Haruhi probably learns/evolves more from the characters around her).

littlekitty littlekitty says...

Both Fruits Basket and Ouran High School Host Club are incredibly charming and humorous at the same time.  Although Tohru and Haruhi are as different as night and day, both stories have a similar feel - they are very uplifting and you cannot help but smile after watching.  Also, while there is very little plot in both stories, the character development is outstanding. Sadly, by watching either of these anime, you do not get the "complete" story, so be prepared to read the manga afterwards!

Foop Foop says...

Since both FB and Ouran are romances about a girl that had their mother die, they go good together. If you are a fan of romances, you should see these both.

soccerdory soccerdory says...

Both series have female protaginsts who are very strong and independent. Both have a lot of comedy and a little romance. Very entertaining on both ends.

Ouran High School Host Club and Fruits Basket are anime that are not about fighting, but about changing your outlook on life. Both filled to the brim with humor and realistic social problems, they allow us to change and grow with the characters. Both of these series show how one person can change the lives of others.

Kagekiba Kagekiba says...

They both have a similar kind of humour allthough ouran host club can be more random at times. Both light hearted and feature a strong romance theme.

orangexxbumblebee orangexxbumblebee says...

It's very rare (at least, in my experience) to find an anime that carries a little bit of everything. Fruits Basket and Ouran do. They're the perfect mix of humor, romance, and the teenist bit of angst. I really don't know how else to describe it... on the surface, not much is similar, but they just feel similar. And both are a must for any hard-core shoujo fan.

poisonliz poisonliz says...

Both anime are based around a girl, both girls mothers have died. Both of them are hilarious, if you haven't seen it you have to, the only thing is don't bother looking for it in english because I don't think they have it, OHSHC is mostly funny because of puns that are based on word similarities in the japanese language. They are both the best comedies but also cry moments in any anime I've seen

Series are alike. Both series have comdey and romance. If you like one of them you'll definately like the other one.

Both series involve a character who has lost a parent (their mother) and is also rather poor. x) Also, both main characters are thrust into situations where they meet new (and strange) people and have to adapt.

Both series are about a normal girl who gets caught up with a dysfunctional group of guys, leading them into all kinds of humorous situations. Despite all the lightheartedness, both series later reveal a surpising amount of depth in their characters.

Animedreamer240 Animedreamer240 says...

Fruits Basket and Ouran are both "reverse harem anime" that center on how one girl slowly changes the lives of the guys around her, and how the guys become highly attracted to her. Also, both anime balance out the comedy and drama very well while portraying this theme. As a plus, the male characters are bish?nen.

TropicalMist TropicalMist says...

These two animes are definitely different plot-wise, but similar to all the other recommendations, they just feel the same.

I think it's because of the same situation the main characters are in. Haruhi and Tohru both have a difficult past, and even though the animes both have a different take and preception of it, they're both really similar in their own ways. I find that they're both really ignorant and both are the super-cute-really-good-girls.

Both anime have female protaginists, accompanied by several guys. All the guys have different personality traits, but you learn to love them all because of who they are and how they contribute to the story and make it unique. However, even if one is more comedy based (Ouran) while the other is more slice-of-life (FB), I think the audience can see that they're both really similar and lovable in the same manner =)

plasticheart plasticheart says...

Both of these animes are reverse harem comedies but are different enough to still add interest. Ouran is very funny but has indepth carachters like fruits basket. Both are a must if you like shojo, comidies or bishies ^_^

Not only that both Anime are extremly funny, no the Characters are so similiar that Momiji and Honey share one seiyuu. Torhu and Haruhi are both confident main Charakters especially girls will like.

Both Fruits Basket and Ouran are light hearted romantic high school comedies which are while clearly aimed at teenage girls are funny enough for everyone to enjoy. I thought the art in each was pretty similar in style and is suits the tone of the series really well. There are quite a few similarities between the main characters (Haruhi & Tohru) and as both series focus very heavily on the main character if you loved one of the series your likely to at least enjoy the other.

animegal33 animegal33 says...

Both Ouran High School Host Club and Fruits Basket are about a girl who changes the males around her as they start to feel a little more than friendship towards her. They both have intersting themes that play a big part of them (Ouran has cross-dressing and Fruits Basket has people who change into animals).

maplesauce maplesauce says...

Both Ouran High and fruits Basket have a fairly light feel to them with a touch of romance, and both are hilariously funny. If you liked one you should defiantly watch the other.

Merryberry Merryberry says...

If you like your female lead surrounded by an collection of unique male personalities getting up to situations, in efforts to hide an massive secret, then both Ouran and Fruits Basket fill the agenda. They also have quite similar artistic style and laidback storytelling angles and while your enjoying the constant chattering between the characters and sometimes cringing events, you'll no doubt appreciate the complexity of the individuals lives. Watching either will mean that your quite capable of enjoying the other, so go watch!

I think if you liked fruits basket , I'm sure you'd like Ouran because both animes are comedy/ romance and they have the same kind of humor. The two animes have for principal character a girl. However, Fruits basket has a little more drama fill in it.

Vejhed Vejhed says...

Both are reverse harem series about girls who find themselves in an odd situation surrounded by men due to unfortunate events.

Haruhi accidentally breaks an expensive vase that the Host Club was planning to sell. To pay off her debt they require her to join the club since she can't afford to give them the money the vase was worth.

The series follows her and the rest of the club through humorous and random events often resulting in endings about friendship.

Both series feature girls who run into situations that they have to keep secret. The styles of comedy are also very similar making you laugh at every other moment. If you liked the boys of Fruits Basket, you're sure to like the boys of Ouran.

MariJine MariJine says...

The lives of the heroines in both anime are suddenly flipped upside down with their sudden meetings with unique men. Each then becomes responsible for hiding a secret. Relationships develop between these girls and the comedic characters around them that make their ordinary school lives far from normal. These two animes would appeal to anyone who enjoys comedy and light romance.

Mokiemorty Mokiemorty says...

Both are a sweet little romantic comedy, with characters that are easy to connect with.

And they\\'re also both full of hot guys.

tooxmuchxcsi tooxmuchxcsi says...

The series are both focused on high school aged kids, and while Fruits Basket focuses on an upbeat young girl who faces hardships, Ouran focuses on a more thoughtful girl who also faces hardships in her life. The main character of Ouran, Tamaki, greatly reminds me of Ayame from Fruits Basket, so you get to see a lot of random drama created from him, which adds to the hilarity of the show. The two shows are both great and I'm sure if you like one of them, you'll like the other.

girl girl says...

The reverse harem setup is similar, the strong female lead is similar, the beautiful boys with very different personalities is similar.

Beyond that, however, both animes make you feel the same kind of happy. There's just something uplifting about a character who works hard their entire life to achieve a few simple goals, and being such a nice and sensible person that they attract a group of people who are willing to work together despite any personal conflicts to make that person happy.

Oh, and if you like Momiji, you'll definitely like Honey and vice versa.

Ouran High School Host Club and Fruits Basket are two anime definitely worth watching. Both are high school animes. They are also both comedies that are base around the same general humor. The characters are all enjoyable. Both are about a girl who each lost their mother, but are still able to smile. They both meet weird boys, with many different secrets to tell. Tohru Honda (Fruits Basket) is always talking to her mother in spirit, and Haruhi Fujioka (Ouran High School Host Club) is also always talking to her mother. The both girls are really sweet, kind, and nice their is something special about them that changes other characters hearts and how they act and they both dont even realize it. I think you you really enjoyed watching Ouran High School Host Club.

Fruits Basket and Ouran have a lovely feel to them. This has probably been said dozens of times, but it's the truth. Both show's revolve around two girls, and a variety of attractive men.  These girls and guys both become like family because of an unfortunate turn of events! I'll be pretty surprised if you like one anime and not the other.

Foxfairy Foxfairy says...

Chances are pretty good if you like one of these shows you will like both as both reverse harum/comedies refuse to take themselves completely seriously. However, the characters are likeable and I found myself not even completely hating the bad ones. Both have a plot centered around a strong, but easy going female character who all the guys seem strongly attracted to.

Both of these animes have very similar feelings. They're both very comic and upbeat and the art style is similar. They're also both very popular animes!

LAnn LAnn says...

The mangaka for Ouran High School Host Club looked at Fruits Basket for inspiration, so to say that they're alike is a bit of a understatement. Their reverse-harem qualities almost match, with the lead females being forced to be around the lead males, but there's something not quite right about the lead males. In Ouran, the males are part of the school's host club and have a tendancy to sparkle while in Fruits Basket, the lead males turn into animals of the zodiac. Some of the characters are alike as well. Honey from Ouran High School Host Club is an exact replica of Momiji from Fruits Basket. The rest of the characters have some similarities, like Kyouya from Ouran and Yuki from Fruits Basket, but they aren't exactly alike. As far as story goes, they both have a good mix of drama and comedy and they both kind of have a similar pace. Ouran has a bit more crack than Fruits Basket, but there's still enough in common to say that if you liked one, you should like the other.

These series each focus around a girl involved in a reverse harem of extraordinary men. Take one oblivious girl character, add a punch of bishies who adore her, and mix in some sort of underlying drama. That's the formula for both Ouran and Fruits Basket. Both have crazy character personalities and fun themes. Acceptance is definitely reaccuring throughout both, as OHSHC has some situations that only mature young adults of this day and age would be able to handle appropriately, and Fruits Basket's characters want to be accepted by normal people in all kinds of ways.

both animes feature a quite, shy, cute girl in the beginning who is basically adapted into a family of insanely popular and hot guys. she grows as a character through a series of funny mishaps and even develops true love along the way. the tone of the characters are alittle off, one is more has a more sadder, sombre undertone, while the other is just play goofy. but both are insanely fun animes and entertaining. enjoy

They both are the smae fundamentally. Handsome boys and a girl that is surrounded by them. They both include the innocent girl who is not aware of the situation. Also the crazy anticts are both there. Althiough Fruits Basket is more cute, Ouran High School Host Club is very similar and I recomend both 100%! Ouran tends to be more funny than Fruits, but they are both centered around a girl catering for boys and highschool life.

Both are shoujo romantic comedies with plots centering around a reverse harem. They have a similar feel with their easygoing, slice-of-life style and include a strong-willed, level-headed female, pulled from a life of "poverty" thrust into a luxurious world. If you liked Shigure in Fruits Basket, Tameki Suoh in Ouran High School Host Club is very similar, and vice versa. And if you like tsundere characters, Kyo Sohma in Fruits Basket is your man! If you like one, you're certain to like the other!

JJ0481 JJ0481 says...

Humor. A loveable girl character, very funny supporting males. Reverse harem, implied romantic possibilities but it isn't the emphasis. Toru Honda (FB) and Haruhi Fujioka (OHSHC) differ in personality quite a lot. Toru is exceptionally kind hearted and accepting of the unusualness of Soma family. She has some pretty ditzy moments, often spacing out to deal with her own inner rambling monologues. Haruhi, while also kind and accepting, tends to be much more practical, with more dry wit and a suspicious nature. I absolutely recommend watching one if you like the other. The only downside is that they have only one season each. If there were more, it would be *PERFECT*.

KashiiAlcuin KashiiAlcuin says...

It's funny, it's smart, it's romantic, it never gets dark, it points out truths about the world and is in general the best to keep yor hopes and spirits up!! I like fruits basket for almost the same reasons but i recomend to read the manga. Ouran High School Host club is able to stand alone but fruits basket ends a bit... you will want to read the manga for more explanation...

Both are funny with similar characters and tags, but beyond how funny they are, there is still a serious nature towards the end.

Both Anime have strong female leads and have lots of comedy. They both have a romantic feel at times but never got very far into that.

ouran high host club and Fruits basket have poor girls that go to school. they both fall into weird circumstances and end up having to be around extremly hot boys all the time.....one of the best animes i have watched to date

They both have the same feel-good theme to it and the main character of Fruits Baset, Tohru reminds me of Haruhi in a way.

ClaretTree ClaretTree says...

They both have the unusual female lead, and the comedy is perfect. While Fruits Basket is Supernatural, and Ouran is a slice of life, both have their funny moments.

Gavia Gavia says...

Both are comedic slice-of-life series with romantic elements and a female protagonist. They share a light-hearted tone, with some darker moments. Futhermore, the characters are similar.

If you like one you should give the other a chance.

pikachu203 pikachu203 says...

The two shows have a lot in common, from a girl living/working with a bunch of guys, the comedy, and of course, the characters.  Both are hilarious, and if you loved one, you would most definitely love the other as well.

Essenceesse Essenceesse says...

They have such a similar feeling. Both are reverse-harems where a motherless girl is forced to interact with the other characters out of necessity. Later the two female roles come to love being where they are and in fact struggle to keep it that way. Fruits Basket and Ouran High School Host Club have many similarities especially in the sometimes light and then suddenly heavy tone.

maliiee22 maliiee22 says...

firts of all they are both reverse harem that doesnt focus on the girl falling in love with one or many guys. they both have some random parts and comedy. in additon to all that both main characters lost their mother

msbirdybird msbirdybird says...

Both animes have a great story which always keep you intereted it has its balance of humour and romance. Although they have very different stories and Fruits basket may not have many characters that's in the manga's but what it does have is very interesting and cute! And if you like Fruits basket you'd also like Ouran high school host club, I do!

lalaith lalaith says...

Both are silly, quirky, have a cast of crazy characters, and will make you laugh and cry.  Both invovle a "normal" girl in a crazy world.  Both have a plenty of gorgeous guys to drool over, whatever your personal "type" is.

Carmelien Carmelien says...

Both are reverse harems if you like that sort of stuff. They both are set in high school. All of the characters have sad backgrounds. Tohru is an orphan and Haruhi lost her mother at a young age.

The female characters are well thought out and unique. The male characters are interesting and different in many ways. If you like animes that are not about saving the world and have strong, independent female roles, these are good animes to watch.

Yuune Yuune says...

First of all they both have a female as a main character who kind of just comes in and everyone falls in love with her.

I love both of these animes to be honest and to me they closely resemble one another. Though the basic plot is different the way it's designed and such (If that even makes any sense). If you liked Fruits Basket you will almost for sure like OHSHC

pinkchicmagnifique pinkchicmagnifique says...

Girl main character is introduced to a colorful cast of characters in a different world of sorts. Both shojo's and contain great comedy. Ouran is more comedy driven while Fruits Basket is more drama driven.

TheDarknessAlchemist TheDarknessAlchemist says...

The humor is relitively the same and both have sorta the same feel to them. They're both slow on the build up to the actual romance and they're both better that way.

SSmith1014 SSmith1014 says...

Both of these shows have the same centric theme of accepting a person for who they are inside, have a quirky female mc surrounded by adoring and fumbling males (who, might I add, appreciate her for more than looks alone) and have serious tensions amidst some silly humor. Although the endings for both were slightly disappointing, these are both feel-good shows.

QueenOfHearts QueenOfHearts says...

I love these shows because they are fun entertaining and they both keep you on the ege of your seate :-) :-D

Tellthebizz Tellthebizz says...

They both are great with fantasy and reality mixed. The characters carry comedy romance truth sadness it revolves each character very well.

Kirisuna Kirisuna says...

They are both reverse harem rom-coms (romantic comedies). The character types are also quite similar (particularly the Hani & Mori / Momiji & Haru combination), and both have minor fanservice. Fruits Basket made me cry and so did the Ouran manga. The animation style is similar in both (this is something that affects my choice, so I thought I may as well include it), so if you are a fan of the design in one you will like the other. Basically they both include incredibly handsome highschool boys.

cbfunky cbfunky says...

Both Fruits Basket and Ouran have a strong but gentle female lead with a more than entertaining side cast. Obviously both are set in highschool, but the main similarity is the main character having dealt with the loss of a parent and hence being quite serious whereas the characters around them lighten up their lives. Also, both are hilarious :)

megumeda megumeda says...

Both are reverse-harem type, with lots of humour. The art is quite similar as well. For the most part, both are very light-hearted and fun anime.

moxiemancer moxiemancer says...

Both shows feature big lively casts. They are upbeat and warm, but each have their sad moments.

They are reverse harem type anime that will make you laugh, cry, genually feel for the characters.

They are both reverse harams with strong willed female leads. They both exist in universes where the female character is singled out. Overall, they are both very similar and if you like one, you are sure to like the other.

princezach princezach says...

Both quite similar in the slice-of-life factor with a unique twist in each, both with humour also.

animeniac777 animeniac777 says...

They both are amazingly funny, in my opinion. Although Fruits Basket can be a tear jerker at sometimes. Both are Reverse Herum, which I love!

JonnySQ JonnySQ says...

Both are very entertaining reverse harlems, as well as funny in good humor and heart jerking in some parts. Even though the female leads in both shows have completely different personalities, they both explore the world of the club/family they become a part of, and learn more about them as they bond with each other.

jessicahh jessicahh says...

Comedy and romanic based shoujo manga, with female leads. Both centre about the main female character and ultimately how she comes to a true realisation of her feelings

kdlea121 kdlea121 says...

They're both adorable and a little bit silly (in a great way). But more than that, I believe they both have beautiful endings, and in some ways the story parallels (example: Haruhi and Tohru both lost their mom)

fatallyvital fatallyvital says...

Fruits Basket and Ouran High School Host Club naturally both have that school setting going for them. However, both also have in common their fair share of mystery and drama underneath a fun, almost peppy, aura.

LunaOrikawa LunaOrikawa says...

They're both amazing and silly, and just over all awesome. (Of course the beginning is rather slow in both Anime, but it gets better the further along you watch)

Satato Satato says...

They're both adorable romantic comedies with a female lead, multiple main male characters, and based around highschoolers. They're both just too cute! And they're super funny too! They're dramatic, and emotional, but not super emotional, and they aren't insanely dramatic. They've got just enough drama to make you laugh, and just enough romance to keep you hooked and wanting more!

dayumdazai dayumdazai says...

Both are cute reverse harems, that start out lighthearted and fun but transitions deeper into the charatcer's lives

Kirimya Kirimya says...

They have the same style for the art and they are also both reverse harem. They also both have the school genre.

yamamotochigusa yamamotochigusa says...

Fruits Basket and Ouran High School Host Club are a classic shoujo anime. Not just shoujo, but both are reverse harems, classical reverse harems. Fruits Basket has supernatural elements, but both are a slice of life. The main heriones impact the attitude of the male characters and their decisions.

OrangeZodiacBoi OrangeZodiacBoi says...

Both are reverse harems with a similar art style and sense of humour. Ouran High School Host Club is the better anime though and the manga version of Fruits Basket is better than the anime version.

Melexie Melexie says...

Hmmm...

I don't really know what to say about these shows except they're both great.

Ouran High Shool Host Club and Fruits Basket were the first two anime shows I was recommended to watch. And watch them I did, again and again. They're both alike and at the same time very different. Both are humorous and have their serious moments. I can almost guarantee that you'll fall in love with the characters (not necessarily in the litteral meaning) ^^

HolaaOlaa HolaaOlaa says...

They are both the best reverse harem shows I have ever seen. It is not like those crappy ones where the main protagonist is a dumb girl who can't stand for herself. They both have a protagonist that are unique and loveable in those own ways. In ouran, harui is a strong girl who can be clueless at someone's and in fruits basket , toru is a happy girl who has a dark past. Both amazing shows to watch. If you've watched one you'll love the other

PickleTickle PickleTickle says...

Reverse Harem, with amazing characters and surprisingly deep themes. I recommend reading the mangas for both if you haven't because the shows only have one season each and leave the ending open.

memelord666 memelord666 says...

Fruits Basket and Ouran are both romantic, reverse harems with cute and lovable characters. They both include characters that are hiding something from the outside world. Both of the shows have manga series' that continue their stories further on than the episodes of the animes. Ouran is more of a slice-of-life focusing on romance, whereas Fruits Basket is a fantasy, more in focus on the storyline.

Lizardbitch Lizardbitch says...

Reverse Harem. High School. Lots of cute boys and love interests. High school girl as the main character. Both main characters come from unfortunate backgrounds and are loved by all.

HKBattosai HKBattosai says...

If like Ouran High School Host Club or Fruits Basket, then you'll like the other one because both feature a strong female protagonist who is surrounded by a vast group of well developed (characterised) males. Although different in plot, both are excellent examples of good shoujo, reverse harem anime with some light-hearted, genuinely comedic moments.

RockyDash RockyDash says...

They both have reverse harem. and both got really good storys, I have to say that if you watch one you gotta watch the other

MintyAmbitions MintyAmbitions says...

Cute, happy, sweet. Easy to watch full of lots of laughs and lots of love. If you're fond of one set of characters you are bound to be fond of another set. Perhaps, even down to those you are not fond of you might note you dislike characters in each that have similar archetypes.

SmolistPotato SmolistPotato says...

A shoujo-like anime that will make you smile during every episode. The comedy in both anime also have the same feel.

Both Host Club and Fruits Basket share similar humor, romance, and characters

(In my opinion)

Haruhi=Tohru and both Yuki and Kyo are combinations of other Host Club members.

I loved both and if loved one you'll like the other. Fruits Basket focuses more on mythology and zodiacs, but both are charming.

AyvidReader AyvidReader says...

They are both perfect Slice of Life animes dealing with high school students in awkward places. Very similar characters as well.

mickeyx0x0 mickeyx0x0 says...

Both shows are really good reverse harems and are classics for RH enthusiasts. Although fruits basket is a supernatural show, they both are pretty similar. They both end up pretty heart wrenching but are good comedies and romances. Even the MCs are similar. Though the theory of fruits basket is pretty different, you'd like both.

QueenofWeebs QueenofWeebs says...

Both are adorable lighthearted romances, both in their anime and their manga series! The manga for both of them goes on after the anime, however some might be satisfied with the endings to the anime.

dubeldragon dubeldragon says...

becuse it is an fun anime to start watching and getting inot anime with. there not very long animes and they will fill a few houres in a long day for you

ShiranaiSan ShiranaiSan says...

These two shows are kind of similar, you have your main girl who's surounded by hot anime dudes fawning for her attention. Which isn't inherently bad so don't let it turn you off.

Fruits Basket has a wonderfully pleasing and heart warming narrative that'll hit you where it hurts. But in a good way. It even continues with the classic comedy that the anime of the time is stapled with, but also has an interesting concept of people who turn into Zodiac animals.

Ouran High School Host Club also has similar tone, but more comedic and light hearted than Fruits Basket is. But has it's moments where it can turn serious and really show the nature of it's writing and characters. Which in both shows really show their prowess in how it can make you feel.

So they're quite the pick for fans of either to watch the other.

flwrkyo flwrkyo says...

They are different in their own ways, but honestly they are pretty similar. They are both really funny, and the characters are similar to each other. I really enjoyed both of them!

AnimeGirl123456 AnimeGirl123456 says...

I agree with this reccommendation because the shows are both similar in many ways. Such as having the main protagenist who's female. Understanding what each character has gone through, resulting in a strong bond between all the characters. Lastly, both shows have a goofy and lighthearted nature about them.

lailz lailz says...

I agree with this for the most parts. However, Fruit Basket has a lot more of a meaningful message and the characters have a really dark past that explains their personality.

Gabrielleharness96 Gabrielleharness96 says...

Sweet girl surrounded by hot guys they have slot of things in common for instance thuro Honda and the main character in fruits basket is really simple just like the main girl in our an all the guy are simply head over hills for them and there not stupid there just really caring

liminalfun liminalfun says...

ouran is like a lighter and sillier fruits basket // fruits basket is like ouran but with more ~trauma healing through friendship~ vibes

Torishu Torishu says...

Aside from the fact that they're both generally from the same day and age of anime, they are quite similar in a lot of ways. While I would say Ouran High School Host Club is the more modern and progressive of the two, they both share the theme of one girl trapped in a multi-way relationship.

SaberOfShadows SaberOfShadows says...

Both take place in a school setting and they both have romance as a common genre. I, personally, found Ouran High School Host Club more up-my-alley, because I enjoy comedy more than anything else and it never failed to give me a good laugh. Nonetheless, Fruits Basket was intriguingly unique; it made me cry...A LOT, but I still enjoyed it for the emotional developments and the characters' beautiful designs. If you like Fruits Basket, I think you'll certainly enjoy Ouran High School Club, which is slightly more light-hearted than the former.

Kamisama Kiss

Kamisama Kiss

Nanami used to live in a ramshackle apartment with her father - a man who spent half his time gambling and the other half hiding from debt collectors - until one day the scoundrel ran away, leaving his daughter hungry and homeless. That is, until she meets a mysterious stranger in the park who deems her the new goddess of a local shrine! Unfortunately, Nanami’s new home is occupied by Tomoe, a fox familiar who objects to the presence of a mere mortal and immediately begins to bicker with the girl. If she can manage to form a contract with the troublesome man, he’ll be obligated to accept and help her perform her duties. But there’s a catch: Nanami has to kiss him first, and who’d want to lock lips with that awful guy?!

In both series, the main characters are high school female students who lose their home and family; that leads them to end up living in a pretty unusual situation.

The artwork also has some resemblance.

Same director on both, and both have the same style of comedy mixed with heartwarming moments. Fruits Basket is more heartwarming so far (although as I'm writing this only 5 episodes of Kamisama have aired), but any fan of one should enjoy the other.

The female protagonists in both show become homeless and they are sheltered by super-natural beings. The position of the two in their own homes respectively might be different, but the relations occuring with the people arround them follow a same pattern.

These basically have the same story. A normal girl, through happenstance meets some handsome boys who have strange powers and emotional turmoil and through her own kind heart, manages to win them over and help them absolve their hurts. However in Kamisama Hajimemashita, the girl has powers of her own, and the love story is more explicit than implied as it is in Fruits Basket.

TsunderePrincess TsunderePrincess says...

Fruits Basket and Kamisama Kiss show great similarites. Both Tohru and Nanami are homeless, but are taken into another home. Both anime feature heartwarming and comedic experiences. The artwork resembles each other a bit, but they both have the same director. If you loved one, you're bound to love the other.

Both anime are shoujo with a supernatural twist. Both have strong female leads. It may not seem like it at times, but that's because, like any real human, they have faults. They both constantly get into trouble, but their strength of spirit gets them out and teaches valuable lessons to the male characters, even though the male characters save them in more physical ways. And the male characters are all really cute :3

What I love in the Fruit Basket anime is the characters , where I'm most favored is Kyou Cap correct me if I'm wrong , being isolated and discrimanated is the most hurtful part (in my opinion) , there was a time when I cried on that episode where he was locked up because of what he was. This anime is one of my top list that I could recommend that you will not regret to watch :3

As for the Kamisama Hajimemashita it is a good historical shoujo romance , i love the plot and also the character design is well created.

Semi-reverse harems. Both have a high school girl who is just super sweet to everyone and everyone loves her or loves to hate her. Both high school girls are homeless and have bad home lives and non-existent families. Both are taken in by others and create a new family. Both have main characters that try their hardest to prove their worth and wind up just making more and more people like them as well as making enemies. Both have magical elements; with fruits basket having people turn into animals and kamisama having animal-like people who can turn into animals but prefer their human/demon forms. Both have a bunch of guys that love them and that one guy the character is just deeply in love with. Both feature a lot of drama and teenage romance and are set in high school. Both main characters have the two best girl friends who are overbearing and protective of them.

After one episode of Kamisama Hajimemashita, I immediately thought of Fruit Baskets. The female leads are in similar circumstance and the men seem to help alleviate the struggle. The stories are cute and all the characters are likeable. If you like one, you are sure to like the other.

Seluias Seluias says...

Both series have a similar feel to it in a way that they include a quite ordinary female protagonist, who gets herself to be surrounded by gods (mainly male), and throughout the story develops to mean a great deal to them.

I'd say that Kamisama Hajimemashita has a bit more pure romance to it, and Fruits Basket a bit more slice of life. But if you like one, you should definitely like the other as well.

Both stories are very heartwarming and humoristic.

If you liked either Fruits Basket or Kamisama Kiss, you'd like the other one because both are Shoujo anime that feature an air-headed, absolutely big-hearted female main character who have both been evicted from their homes and forced to live elsewhere unexpectedly. On top of that, they must deal with characters who are animal-like in nature, either because they are Youkai, are cursed, or are somewhere in between.

both of these shoujo anime are incredibly light. The openings and endings to Kamisama are pretty fun. If you liked Fruits Basket you will probably like Kamisama. If you are a newer anime fan and can get past the old shoujo art style of Fruits Basket I guarantee you will love the story.

BUT THEN, turns out the boi's are magical! that goes with both shows, the only real difference is that Nanami is a Goddess, and Honda is not. ( as well as the boys being the 12 spirits, and Tomoe is just a demon.) But if you loved Kamisama Kiss, them you will love Fruits baskets.

I think they can relate because they both desperately needed a place to stay and got one, not knowing that both of their house holds that they will be living in is weird and different. They both are very kind hearted and try not to cry, no matter what it is. They both experience love also. I feel like Tomoe took after both the Soma boys because he can be mean and mature.

Fruits basket is very simular to kamisama kiss. They both are romantic comedies and occult fictions. They both are pretty short, so you can probably finish either in around two days.

xxNEETxx xxNEETxx says...

The heroines are almost interchangeable. They both have the sunny disposition and independent spirit. They are both orphans and they pretty much are in the same situation when their respective shows begin.

Both are reverse harems and light-hearted comedies, though Kamisama Kiss has more romance. The art styles and music are also very similar.

The original Fruits Basket is more similar to KK than the re-make. But since the storyline of both shows are based on the same manga, the remake still has some commonalities just not as much.

I just like anime that has action or powers, school life, fantasy that sort of things. Anything that gives me thrills and stuffs. I also read the manga for kamisama kiss and it's kind of good.

both romance animes (may I specify) revolve around non-human main characters or relationships.

RoseFaerie RoseFaerie says...

For one thing, they have the same type of comedy, which comes from having the same director. They also give off similar vibes when it comes to how the characters are presented.

Nanami and Tohru both find themselves in the same sort of situation: homeless highschool students who move in with supernatural beings. However, the supernatural elements are much more pronounced in Kamisama Kiss than Fruits Basket.

In Kamisama Kiss, Nanami spends her days helping supernatural beings with their problems, while Tohru does the same for the Zodiac members. Even some of the characters are similar. Kamisama Kiss's Tomoe is rather similar to Fruits Basket's Kyo. Both of the protagonists are kind and caring individuals, though Nanami has more of a firey temperment.

keywiha keywiha says...

The main characters are very similar to each other. They are both just ordinary school girls who ended up homeless and were offered to stay at someone's home leading to getting stuck in an unusual situation. Despite obstacles they both faced throughout their life, they still remain a care-free, sympathetic personality. As you watch these anime, you'll encounter a variety of different characters. They are also both shoujo and reverse harem anime.

kikimorash kikimorash says...

In my opinion it is better to watch kamisama kiss before fruits busket. Although they are really similar but you will first adore everything in kamisama kiss and then you will like fruits basket even more and enjoy watching it because it has more episodes and more characters involved in plot.

4Seasons 4Seasons says...

Both female leads are very nice, oblivious and naive. Plus they are always willing to help out when they can. Both of them are cute and fun to watch but they do have sad moments but not for long. I thought they were a good watch.

Both Kamisama Kiss and Fruits Basket have characters with animal characteristics which I don't tend to particularly like but both anime come under my favourite romance so..

phantomKID13 phantomKID13 says...

both deal with spirits/animals and a homeless female lead had kinda  similar storylines nut different at the same time

FlanPrinceRose FlanPrinceRose says...

Kamisama Kiss and Fruits Basket have the same director, and as a result, have a similar feel to them. They even have a similar approach to comedy. Fruits Basket is a bit darker, though it is still a relatively happy series.

Both series begin with a homeless girl without any family being taken in by someone with supernatural powers. For Nanami, it was Mikage making her a god, and for Tohru, it was being accepted into the Sohma family house as a housekeeper. (The Sohmas are possessed by zodiac spirits.)

There are characters with animal elements in Kamisama Kiss, such as Kurama and Mizuki. Fruits Basket has a huge cast full of characters who can turn into animals. There are some character similarities. Nanami is very kind and tries to be helpful. She's a more fiery version of Tohru. Kyo and Tomoe are both more tsundere and struggle to be kind to others.

Of course both of our heroines are surrounded by attractive male characters with a variety of relationships with her. (There are quite a few who are interested in the lead, though.)

Both the original Fruits Basket series and Kamisama Kiss are solid supernatural romance series with similar vibes. If you like one, you'll probably like the other.

Just as Fruits Basket is filled with developed characters that are incredibly likeable, so is Yamato Nadeshiko Shichi Henge. The story is funny yet touching at the same time, and it makes you feel for the heroine as much as it makes you feel for Tohru in Fruits Basket. This series is all around great; it will make you laugh and make you cry without going over the top.

Both Fruits basket and Yamato Nadeshiko Shichi Henge deal with a girl having to live with one of the main characters(the girl) having to move in with guys, and they all have alot of secrets, its alot like Fruits Basket.

Both Fruits Basket and Yamato Nadeshiko Shichi Henge deal with teens in some kind of delicate situation or extraordinary position, who deal with it in a hilarious way. Bishounen with interesting pasts? Check. Mentions of the occult? Check. Plot that gets lost in some of the antics? Check.

Don't get fooled by the ad images for YNSH, it's actually a super silly anime, probably more so than Fruits Basket. Both are harem stories and deal with facing everyday difficulties. FB can be a bit more bittersweet at times but YNSH speaks to everyone who'se ever been overlooked I think.

Both fruits basket and Wallflower are considered reverse harem, but thats not why im reccing them both! These 2 series remind me of each other! Filled with romance (or the lack thereof), comedy, drama, angst! Both series has an amazing cast where the lead girl shows her strength through tough times! They both also deal with high school life and having to solve problems based around their unique position. (Turning Sunako into a perfect lady and Tohru finding a place to belong and help her new family break the curse.)

Fruits Basket and Azumanga Daioh are sweet and cute series, even though their atmosphere and plot do differ quite much. (As Azumanda Daioh doesn't even have a plot, really.) Still, they both are the kind of soft anime that leave you feeling good and warm afterwards.

sothis sothis says...

Fruits Basket and Azumanga Daioh both share a equally as hilarious type of randomness which will make you laugh. Fruits Basket definitely is a bit more sentimental and serious at times, but both easily are high up on my "funniest anime" list, and I think you'd enjoy it.

SinfulWun SinfulWun says...

Although Azumanga Daioh and Fruits Basket both have totally different stories, and the characters aren't very similar, overall they both have the same sense of character development that will create an attachment to the characters, that will leave you either in tears by the end or begging for more.

Eileanach Eileanach says...

Both Azumanga Daioh and Fruits Basket are about school and have fantastic comedy elements. There's the right dose of cuteness and humour, along with some drama and a decent story line that doesn't have massive plot holes. There are a few hyper characters but the series are generally good for laughs and are an excellent pick-me-up if you are feeling slightly blue.

HolyGoof HolyGoof says...

Both series involve plots based around school andhave amazingly funny laugh out loud comedy moments. If you enjoy very strong characters both series' are brilliant.

Kirowyn Kirowyn says...

Both of these anime's deliver a heartwarming feeling as you get to know all of the characters. The main characters Tohru Honda (Fruits Basket) and Chiyo Mihama (Azumanga) are sweet girls who feel a bit out of place. They both interact with the people around them to ty to find their place in the world.

Azumanga Daioh and Fruits Basket both have a cute side to themselves. You see, eventhough Azumnga Daioh doesn't have drama like Fruits Basket, but you will certainly enjoy the comedy.

Not only the comedy is in common, but the fun and the randomness is found in both these anime.

However, if you thirst for anime characters similar to the characters in Fruits basket, then Azumanga Daioh doesn't help much. But character construction and develpmont is found in both these anime.

So by the end, you will be grateful you watched Azumanga Daioh!

KidMercury KidMercury says...

You'd like Azumanga Daioh because it has that same element of random hilarious moments that just have to make you laugh. Even though Azumanga is more slice of life, they both give you elements of teenagers in school.

These series are each primarily focus around random humor that make them fit well together. Fruits Basket has more drama and romance, though.

Airotia Airotia says...

Both are very comedic, and are extremely light-hearted. Azumanga Daioh has no element of romance and only has a few serious moments, while Furuba is about half-seriousness, half-hilarity. However, the airheaded-ness of Osaka is just like Tohru's, and they're very similar characters. Furuba has a few episodes that are just them hanging around high school, and parts of those have a very similar feel to Azumanga Daioh.

hamletsmage hamletsmage says...

If you want an anime where the main character is a bit of a ditz, and she's surrounded by a cast of unique and hilarious individuals, these two animes are perfect for you. Because of her reputation, people are not only terrified of her, but small dogs even bark in fear at her presence; in fact, the only person in school who will talk to her is the lively class hottie, Kazehaya. As the pair spends more time together, Kazehaya slowly begins to bring Sawako out of her shell and soon their feelings for each other develop further. It's hard to describe, but I found Fruits Basket and CLANNAD to have a very similar feel to them. Both are fairly lighthearted with an almost half-and-half blend of drama and comedy. The drama is very sentimental and the comedy revolves around the characters' antics, and neither relies on dirty jokes or references to other anime series. Both take place at the main character's high school a fair amount, and both deal with similar themes: friendship, family and acceptance. There are also some very, very light romantic undertones between characters here and there. If you like one, it's *very* likely that you'll like the other.

meph meph says...

Fruits basket and Clannad both deal with similar themes and they compliment each other nicely. Either involve harem or reverse harems. Both involve a central character (Tohru from fruits basket and Okazaki from Clannad) who grows from there experience with others as well as helping others grow. Both series have excellent character development and a wonderful dramatic comedy with a little bit of romance sprinkled in.

Both series have similar feels to them and if you like one it’s a near guarantee you will like the other.

If your the type of anime fan who likes watching series with:

  • Comedy

Through in a good soundtrack, characters and animation makes it possible for you to be able to watch one as easily as the other.

foltor foltor says...

Fruits Basket and Clannad are both high school comedy-dramas with subtle romantic undertones which deal with themes of developing emotional intimacy and finding a sense of belonging. I find them both higly uplifting and rewatchable.

The comedy in Fruits Basket is a bit more broad and slapstick while Clannad is more bizarre and esoteric. Fruits Basket also has some rather dark aspects as the plot unfolds, whereas Clannad (as of episode 15) is pretty consistently optimistic. Fruits Basket is also more focused on the development of its three core characters and only strays from them for brief intervals, but Clannad spends several episodes at a time in a subplot exploring the issues of one of the secondary characters.

narutou narutou says...

I would reccomend this because both series have a similar type of humor and are definitely fun to watch. Clannad has a more supernatural feel to it while Fruits Basket is more down to earth.

WalkingEast WalkingEast says...

Fruits Basket and Clannad are two of the most touching anime I've taken the time to watch this year. Both have sweet characters who are thrust together by destiny. Although Fruits Basket is more light hearted, both share a mild exploration of the supernatural, and both have some touching moments.

Clannad is the deeper of the two, with some honest tear jerking scenes, but if you're not ready to get into the heady undertow of that show, or if you've just gotten out of it, Fruits Basket will be a welcome bastion.

These series each have a rather moving and emotional story surrounded by a large amount of comedy and some romance. Clannad is more romantic and slightly less episodic in nature, though.

AlienicoN AlienicoN says...

It's strange to suggest but true. Each one is based around a cheerful girl who doesn't want to hurt anyone around her.

If you've enjoyed Nagisa from Clannad, you will definaltely enjoy Tohru from Fruits Basket. Both are cutesy girls with similar personalities, emotions, expressions, and feelings.

Both series feature humorous love triangles with humans changing into animals and other things. There are many other characters that change as well, but you would have to watch the series to find out ;) Both Ranma and Fruits Basket have extensive love triangles and plenty of situational comedy. Ranma is a tad more mature with the gratuitous female nudity and also a good deal of martial art fighting storylines, while Fruit Baskets is more relationship driven. Neither have a lack of humor, that's for sure.

Both Fruits Basket and Ranma are about people turning into animals/girls/etc. and both feature a lot of comedy in a similar style. Ranma is better for people who like martial arts as it focuses a lot on the fighting, whilst Fruits Basket has more emphasis on the romance and is generally cuter.

What Fruits Basket does for angst and romance, Ranma 1/2 does for romance and humor. Both anime feature strange situations, people that turn into animals, curses, and genderbenders (though the latter is quite literal). While Ranma 1/2 features much more fighting than Fruits Basket, in the end they are both beautiful love stories with equal helpings of humor, romance, and angst.

Fruits Basket and Ranma 1/2 are both anime with characters who change into animals. Also, Tohru Honda and Ranma have histories that allow them to intermingle with the world around them.

lots of romance, lots of transformations, lots of animals and a hell of a lot of humour make these two animes very similar. You'l either love both or neither.

Theta Theta says...

Both of these anime feature teenagers that transform into animals.  On top of that they both have romance and love triangle elements, often verging on harem.  While Fruits basket is more serious and has a continuous plot they share a similar style of humour and explore many of the same themes.

If you like Ranma 1/2 you might love the anime series Fruits Basket because Fruits Basket is probably one of those Another Love Triangle anime titles Clifford the anime Fruits Basket however it's kind of like Ranma 1/2 but there is no martial arts in Fruits Basket but only more different from other animes but for Ranma 1/2 however there is romance martial arts comedy love triangle which is probably a lot more different than any other anime in general.
