Let's cut to the chase.

What is it about?
A batch of fresh recruits enroll into the firefighter academy, which subsequently leads them to the special rescue team course. As the story progresses, Daigo and Onoda experience their first rescue operations. Furthermore, their backgrounds are unfolded providing a much clearer understanding of their motivations.

In other words: it's an action anime revolving around one of the most tense and mind boggling acts of heroism that some of the firefighters are prone towards. It portraits mundane tasks of public officers as well as life-threatening situations. In that sense, the anime is quite informative as it tries to show not only the easy-peasy side of this work but also all sorts of different dangers. The difficulties that the characters face are on par with their honor and steady reputation increase as more and more rescue operations they conduct.

What's good about it?

- It knows what it is about – the anime doesn't try to be everything. It precisely shows its assumed content: it's an action film with drama concerned about one's tragedy in face of a natural or man-made disaster.

- Daigo clearly wants to inspire its watchers with the philosophy of selfless, duty-driven life.

- Soundtrack, while in overall pretty generic, fits well the general theme of the anime.

- Situations and circumstances portraited in there are believable and founded in public safety knowledge, so kudos for actually doing a research on that topic.

- Somewhat well-written characters with interesting interactions, unique motives and believable common life representation.

What's bad about it?

- Boring at times retrospections which don't add much to the whole appeal of the show.

- Graphically impaired at times, the animation could've been better.

- Niche topic that only a certain group of people will enjoy. It's not an anime about firefighters having their life. It's about firefighters doing their job and being preoccupied with concerns related to their occupational duties. You will see some comic relief there but these are rather basic and unoriginal.

Should you watch it?

Yeah, definitely. If public officers work is something you fancy, then Daigo is a good match for you. If you seek some over-the-top action and superhuman feats of strength oftenly showed in anime, you won't find these here. The anime shows normal people being in their professional mode, that's it. Daigo is packed with action but if your heart doesn't start to race from the portrayal of real life disastrous situations, it may not be that interesting to watch.

Spoiler free

This anime made me appreciate fire fighters even more.

It showed the strugles of wanting to help and needing to stay safe, having to risk one or the ether and the reality that even if you do everything you can, it can somethimes not be enough.

The only bad thing I remember while watching, is when an episode played and it was the future/present/past, I still don't get it and that is why I can't give this anime a perfect score, it also had some other similar parts.

Overall, it is a good anime that introduces us to the fire fighters, their strugles and reality white also showing the great stuff that comes from such jobs.

Add after a while:

The animation is average, it is also true it is slow paced, but I like those type of shows, will probably include the pacing in future reviews.

This show ended up being quite boring, unfortunately. They spend three or four episodes pumping up a slab of concrete to save a single person in the middle of the season.
