It has been a month since Illya and Miyu became magical girls and sealed all of the Class Cards. Rin and Luvia have been forced to remain in Japan to clean up the aftermath, such as the now-unstable magic in the area's ley lines. While helping with the cleanup, the seal on Illya's mysterious innate magic goes berserk and she loses control of her transformation. By the time she has realized what happened, a mysterious girl who looks eerily like Illya appears, apparently bent on bringing destruction down on the original whose heart she seems to have spawned from, and making matters worse she holds the power of the Archer Class Card, with which Illya holds a special bond, within her body.

This season differs quite a bit from the first one. Instead of capturing cards with heavy emphasis on action the shift moves toward school life & daily life while focusing heavily on our newest cute addition to the magical girls line-up for a total of 3. Kuro brings a lot of life into the group and this season is much more funny instead of action filled, until the last 2 episodes anyway. The only thing off here really is that the flow of the story ends around Episode 8, then goes completely into a new storyline and it ends it partially when it clearly has more to tell. Even if the story continues on in Season 3, the season is only 10 episodes versus the usual 12 so it doesn't make sense not to use that to tell more of the story. Again since it is 10 eps like the first season, there isn't a great deal to tell. This season is all about the characters, comedy, and a largely increased amount of ecchi / suggestive content / nudity(barbie doll style). Overall very good if you like the characters, Illya is less whiny too, so this season is an improvement. Review of Season 1 ; Scored 9Review of Season 3 ; Scored 8.5Review of Season 4 ; Scored 7
First some items I need to adress. I'm Dutch to expect some spelling errors, if they are to annoying just message me and I'll fix it. My opinion may vary from others and this is fine. People are different so there is a good chance that I will not like what you love. Deal with it. I'm not telling you that you should hate it too, I'm telling you why I didn't like it. I'll try to keep swearing to a minimum but fail utterly on occasion. In general it is the more the anime pisses me off the more I swear so watch out for the low scored ones. Art: It's fine for the most part and it is only when the CGI takes completely over that the quality takes a nose dive. When CGI is used to enhance what is there it is fine but the more it is used the worse it gets. Sound: No real problems here either. I can't remember any of the music and that is how I prefer it. Voice acting is fine but they didn't have much to work with either. Characters: Main character is Illya, who is a young girl with a passion for magic girl shows. She loves her older brother, Shirou, a lot....a bit to much actually considering they are siblings. Her dream is to become a magical girl and fight for the right side. Miyu is a young girl Illya's age who becomes partners with Sapphire. Like her staff she is cool and collected, rarely showing any emotions. Initially disgusted by Illya's attitude she tries to go through the mission alone bet eventually befriends Illya. Ruby and Sapphire are magic staffs that empower their contract holders with magical powers. Sapphire is cool and collected while Ruby is more happy go lucky. Ruby has a serious magic girl fetish and tries to manipulate Illya in the direction she wants to go. Both do care for their charges and work hard to protect them. Rin and Luvia are the previous contract holders with Ruby and Sapphire. They were tasked with recovering the cards but hate each other to the point that they get in constant fights together. This annoys Ruby and Sapphire that they decide to break the contract and leave them stranded. Neither is powerless though as they are powerfull mages in their own right. Bezzat is an enforcer from the magic councel send to retrieve Class Cards. She is very straight forward and goal oriented. She is also extremely powerful. Kuro is an exact copy that split off from Illya with the Archer Cards' powers at her disposal. She is very powerful in her own right but splitting off also made Illya weaker. She has no desire other than ending Illya. Story. It is some time after they group retrieved the Class Cards and things are slowly returning to normal. Things change when Rin and Luvia get the assigment to repair the ley lines. There is a surge and Illya is suddenly split into 2 people as Kuro makes her appearence. With the Archer Card as her power base she is a formidable opponent and she does her best to kill Illya. The group tries desperately to stop Kuro and figure out what her deal is. Things get even worse when an enforser from the magic council appears to retrieve the Cards. Bazzet is strong and ruthless and will stop at nothing. Which is bad for Kuro as the final Card is all that is keeping her alive. Rant. All the good of the first season is utterly destroyed in this installment. A big problem is that for a large part very little is going on and there is almost no plot evolvement to be seen for large stretches of time. Another big problem is that almost nothing is explained. At some point Illya's mother appears and she is aware of Kuro and why she appeared but doesn't explain a thing. If she did then I missed it completely. Worst problem is the ....porn? Kuro needs power to exist and she can draw it from people when she wants to. She does this by kissing because of course and shut up. Anyway she literally jumps Miyu and goes into full liplock. This is no chaste kiss but there is more than a little tongue involved here. It also goes on FOREVER! All the while Miyu is actively trying to fight back so we can add sexual assault to the anime charges as well. But hey, these are all underage girls so I'm sure that it's fine. Can someone explain to me why this anime needed this?
