Anime in 200 Words: Fairy Musketeers OVA

Premise: The fairytale world is in danger, and a young fighter and her wolf Val have been sent to find the Key of Erde (Earth), because without him, her world is doomed.

Characters: Akazukin is Red Riding Hood, but with daggers and inline skates instead of a basket of goodies. This kind of reinterpretation defines the OVA and following series, and the tomboy fighter caught my interest.

Plot: Cendrillion’s forces have found out about the Key of Erde’s existence, and they want to capture him for their schemes. Akazukin and Val fight to defend the Key, a boy named Kouta.

Audience: Kids, most likely girls, but because the magical girl style team hasn’t been formed yet, it could probably still appeal to boys too.

Comparison to TV Series: The OVA is a little darker than the series, and the cast is much smaller. On the whole, this little anime feels like a fantasy action show.

Overall: Fairy Musketeers is a good OVA, and people who enjoy it will probably like the follow up series as well, because the importance of the Key and the threat to the magical world is revealed. Average show.
