Not only are the character styles, animation, color pallet, and studios the same.  Eureka Seven, and Xam'd: Lost Memories are both similar in plot, and emotion.  Characters unsure of who they are, or what they want to become are important to both anime.  Finding yourself in the freedom of flight is a theme held by both.  If you like one you will like the other as well.

Oehr Oehr says...

You will notice something right away: They both look damn similar. Well, both anime are animated by Bones and even share some of the special effects.

Leaving the look aside, the story itself share many similarities, like the most of the series happen on some kind of plane. Also the personality of Eureka (Eureka Seven) and Nakiami (Xam'd). Both also involve love, trust and hate, teasing, conflicts and death. Overall, a mixture out of all possible routes a anime can do.

Be sure to watch both!

They're both similar in many ways like their looks, characters, setting, in-world technology, plot and overall feeling.

I believe if you enjoyed Eureka 7 or Xam'd Lost Memories as much as I did you'd like the other. They have many things in common such as having romance, yet also action and adventure. They show that even though a person might change over time and become different, if you really care about them it wouldn't matter.

chameleonkirsty chameleonkirsty says...

Both animes are definitely worth watching, both are extremely well plotted storylines, with twists that keep you watching more.  Both share similar aspects focusing on a creature/mecha being of some sort, xamd lost memories being xamd creatures, and eureka sevens being LFOs.  Also being by the same company (BONES) which doesnt count for much when comparing animes, but it seems the same amount of care has went into both of these series to produce amazing animation with brilliant artwork. :D

Omurqi Omurqi says...

Xam'd and Eureka Seven have a couple, rather large plot elements in common: Guy leading a reasonably normal life tries to help a strange girl, shit hits the fan, guy joins a small "rebellious" aircraft-crew and goes on adventures with them. Then ofcourse there is the all-powerful military as enemy, and a strange power affecting the main character. If you liked the whole diverse crew, combined with some sci-fi, drama and occasional comedy, you'll love this anime as well!

byayoi byayoi says...

Apart from the production company, the animation and the character design (which both animes share), Xam'd's story it's kind of a retake of Eureka Seven's. Both animes are set in worlds immersed in war where the army plays a big role, both have airships with very peculiar design that are a very important part of the plot, both deal with xenophobia using a member of the crew in said ships, both comment on ecology and conservation issues in a roundabout way, and both have a male main character who didn't want to become the hero.

gearheadofmeh gearheadofmeh says...

Basically Xam'd is a more mature version of Eureka Seven.  It's tighter, more emotionally realistic, and with a better setting.  It trades a lot of the comedy of Eureka Seven for emotional impact.  If you liked the drama and character relationships of one, definitely watch the other.

Funkgun Funkgun says...

With a young male protagonist thrust into a situation he was not ready for, both of these titles make for a similar feel and look.

Living aboard a larger ship with a motley crew, and having character designs that live and breath Bones studio, also helps relate these two titles.

Eureka is more mecha, than a organic creature worn as armor as in Xamd, but the general vibe and pace of action is what makes these two titles kissing cousins of each other.

if you like one, you will probably like the other.

Szwagier Szwagier says...

First of all their storyline is fairly similar. A young boy due to varius circumstances gets a new type of power (Xamd in XLM and giant Robot in E7 ) and a very strange girl, that seems to know a lot about that power. Than the boy sets off on a journey with her, aboard a an airship with lots of peculiar characters. On this journey he learns a lot about the truth of the world, and in the proccess grows up.

Apart from the obvious storyline and characters connections even the overall mood is fairly similar. Characters are a small group caught in the middle of something bigger than they could imagine. You can feel the pressure caused by difference in strength. There is a lot of suspense caused by slow pace in which the mysteries around the girl and boys power unravel. And there is a cute romance that shapes the story into it's final form.

eaper eaper says...

Each of these series, apart from having similar art and similar voice actors (in many cases, the same ones), have a deep story about coming of age, love, and lose. They both start out in a boring town, where something huge happens, and then a chunk of what happens after that is the same. Each series also has a very common theme in the ending. If you liked one of these series, you'll like the other.

sesshomarux24x sesshomarux24x says...

Both of theses anime have almost the exact same feel to them. In these anime they each have a group of people that are traveling around in a ship fighting there enemies. Each have their own elements of action, adventure, and romance.  Eureka 7 has a lot more in the romance department, but Xam'd has a lot also.

MisakiUsagi MisakiUsagi says...

What can i say. If you like one you'll definitely like the other. Both feature a normal young boy who meets a strange, mysterious, girl and enters a war between the military and a band of rebels and is forced to fight for not only themseleves but the girl they love. :)

Having the same studio and character designer definatly makes these two shows feel similar aswell as having a similar plot line with a young boy being thrust into an unfimiliar environment and having to learn the truth about the world. I definatly reccomend watching both these shows.

MarcusChristoper MarcusChristoper says...

Both share very similar stories involving a male lead who must leave home in the face of corrupt military. Both lead villians act similar using illegal research methods to create a weapon. The animation is very similar. However, Xam'd is a much shorter storyline.

Same studio , though  you can see the progress in their design. Personally I consider xam'd to have the best animation design out there . Eureka and Xam'd give you almost the same feeling while watching , rooting for the main character . At the same time many other characters will come to spotlight . What' s more , the romance element is vivid all the way till the end of both series . It is a must see for both mecha and romance fans.

Argel Argel says...

Same studio, creator, and very similar concepts, tropes, and formula. They may be a bit too simiar to watch back to back. E7 is slightly better than Xam'd, though they both have their pros and cons.

Neon Genesis Evangelion

Neon Genesis Evangelion

In the future, a devastating event known as Second Impact has destroyed Tokyo as we know it, giving rise to Tokyo III - a city under siege by mysterious lifeforms known only as Angels. Mankind's only line of defense are the Evangelions, a set man-made machines piloted by a trio of fourteen year-old teenagers, Rei, Shinji, and Asuka. The fate of Japan and the entire world now lie with these three children, though they might not have the power to save the most important thing of all: each other.

Reasons you might like Neon Genesis Evangelion...

freakzilla freakzilla says...

Eureka 7 has a similar feel to Evangelion: both deal with human psychology and touch on themes like action and romance to keep them accessible to a wider audience. Both have a great and frightening mystery lurking - something so frightening that the characters are torn between their choices. Will they collapse and have a nervous breakdown? Or will they harden themselves and see things through?

AsukaLangley AsukaLangley says...

Eureka Seven and Evangelion are both anime about big robots and mysterious blue haired girls. Aside from that however, they both deal with the deep psychological issues of the protagonist. If you enjoyed one, you'd like the other.

Filippy Filippy says...

Seriously, these two anime share a lot of things, and yet are so different. If you liked Eureka Seven because of the funny parts, then this recommendation won't do a lot for you; but if you liked the whole end-of-the-world-chaos thing in the plot, Evangelion would be definitely be one of you favorites. Plus one could say that Eureka is Rei's young sister.

yuskeura yuskeura says...

Both Evangelion and Eureka Seven are bout mecha and their pilots. There are also questions about the nature of human beings in both of them, so be sure to check them out.

tjhooker tjhooker says...

Both series center around emotionally awkard children, giant mechs, their mission to save the world and crazy underlaying philosophical references. Watch them for their similarities or watch them for their differences, just watch them.

Kantram Kantram says...

I would recommend Eva to anyone who likes Eureka Seven because of nearly the same theme of romance and mecha. Through out both series there is a relationship growing between two important characters, Rei and Shinji / Eureka and Renton. Both are that soft, calm, and slow forming relationships, where you really just want to know if they really do get together at the end.

onelasttime11 onelasttime11 says...

Teens piloting Mecha, a strong emotional story, and awsome battle really bring both these series to a level that not many anime reach. Truely fantasic.

visigoth29527 visigoth29527 says...

The plot line of both stories are similar; a rather weak boy who had for some reason lost his parents, is drawn into a conflict he doesn't really understand.  Each has giant robots (mechs), strong female protectors, dubious male influences, and strange blue haired girls.

Think of Eureka 7 as a less psychologically twisted version of NGE.

Thistledown Thistledown says...

Eureka Seven has much lighter elements than Evangelion, but both explore the ideas around human psychology fairly thoroughly. Additionally, both have a protagonist drawn into a conflict he doesn't much understand, pilots mechs, and eventually gets into quite the mental mess.

Omurqi Omurqi says...

Eureka Seven and NGE are both mecha series about a war against an unknown, "inhuman" enemy. One of the big questions in both series, is wherever the enemies they're fighting against actually are the ones being wrong and "evil", or if humanity is the one at fault. While they both have their moments of seriousness and comedy, Eureka Seven tends to be a bit comical and lighter, due to the occasional random comedy (and awesome rainbowexplosions).

eaper eaper says...

These series both feature slightly non-traditional mechas along with a view of the universe that is very interesting. They both start off as a fairly down to earth series but slowly get more and more out there. While focusing on a world fighting for survival of the human race, a few kids come to the forfront and must take everything upon themselve.

awpaperwings awpaperwings says...

Middle/high school kid pioliting a giant mecha that may just be humanity's final hope? Certianly sounds like either Evangelion, or Eureka 7. Both have a remarkably aggrivating personality, yet each show somehow lures you in to watching the next episode. Each are actually quite entertaining and have their own races of aliens, comedy and it's share of loveable (and not so lovable) characters.

filipfkn92 filipfkn92 says...

If your main reason of watching this anime was that quiet, seledine-haired girl, Scub Coral question, and you are ready for anime without clear end, and with enormous impact for psychology, and "E7" was just too happy and too funny for you, you'll fall in love to Ayanami Rei too, and you'll good way of spending your time, whatching this classic anime.

hamletsmage hamletsmage says...

Both Eureka Seven and Evangelion are about a young male character who suddenly finds himself in the middle of a war to save mankind. Both anime delve into human psychology, and so, the characters are flawed individuals with deep and intricate storylines. Both anime also take an interesting look at how the respective mecha is created/piloted.

Rfsancho Rfsancho says...

Both shows are remarkably similar. Kids piloting contraptions that they were pretty much forced to pilot, the dark plot development, a cast full of characters that vary greatly in personality and reasons for piloting, really slick animation physics. Both great shows that the viewer should watch if they enjoyed either one.

discospider discospider says...

Both shows share many of the same major plot aspects. They revolve around boys and other who control mysterious robots that are linked to other beings that they fight. They both have lots of pyschological issues while the show deal with human origins. I would say Neon Genesis is more adult in feel compared to Eureka Seven.

AlterIdolRiley AlterIdolRiley says...

Very similar feel between the two shows in terms of the larger mystery in the background of the story presented. Though I will say Eureka Seven has a much lighter feel.

Love Eureka Seven as much as me? Then I highly recommend Tengen Toppa Gurren-Lagann. Both are a story about two "brothers" who want to escape faith. In Eureka Seven, a boy who had nothing but a normal life changes when he becomes involved with a mysterious mecha. In Gurren-Lagann the same principles apply, but they are shown in a whole new way. Eureka Seven has action, a lot of drama, and is funny; Gurren-Lagann has the same things. Trust me, Eureka Seven is my #1 anime but Gurren-Lagann is VERY VERY close to outranking it. If you don't like it, then here's a pie!

Both Tengen and Eureka offer a unique take on two young upstarts who start from humble origins but are quickly caught up in events beyond their control, as well as intense, stylistic mecha action and character-driven plots.

AnemBlue AnemBlue says...

Both series have remarkably similar plot lines and character lineups.  Gurren-Lagann is more plot driven while Eurkea seven is more character driven.  Both stories (initially) revolve around a pubecent boy who is able to pilot a "special" mecha type robot, both are guided by a stronger, more charasmatic male character, both involve a love affair between the main character and a human-but-not-human female character, and both involve saving the world from a much larger enemy than it should be concievable to defeat.

Goshin Goshin says...

both stories have crazy mecha action,  an interesting crew as well as a love story that revolves around the main character. and oh yeah both love interest are "special"

OrionBeoulve OrionBeoulve says...

Both mech action type shows. Also involves some obscure kid making their rise to greatness. Both can be rather mature on some aspects with a fair share of comedy as well. Both stories also have their own fair share of twists. Some you will see coming from a mile away and others not so much.

Omurqi Omurqi says...

Both E7 and Tengen Toppa tell the story of a sad, weak boy and his rise to herodom. Both shows have a crew of rebels, fighting against a mighty, oppressive power. If you liked one of these series then you will probably enjoy watching the other series as well because each series place a strong emphasis on the mechs and their pilots.  Showing that as each series the characters grows stronger and they become able to stand on their own with the support of their friends and the feelings they have.  Each series some rather nice comedy and funny moments but they also have the moments when everyone is absolutely being serious neither of which will ever feel out of place and like the tone of the episode doesn't feel like it belongs with the current situation.

Eureka seveN and FMA are both from studio Bones. Both Eureka 7 and Fullmetal Alchemist have deep and involving stories of epic scale. "There is more than what you see on the surface" appears to be a recurring theme in both anime. Both Eureka Seven and Full Metal Alchemist have a huge dynamic cast of characters that seem similar if you compare them. You think you'll be going one way in these anime, but then it will twist and turn until you don't know what to expect. You'll hear "Don't beg for things, do it yourself" in Eureka Seven, and "Something cannot be gained without giving something in return" in Full Metal Alchemist very often. These quotes tie together well, and it generates a solid feel of what these two are like. Many emotional and heartbreaking moments lie in wait in both adventures, so you can't go wrong with either.

Nightmare7 Nightmare7 says...

Both series are about telling the truth of not only the world but all of the characters who will end up having an important role in all of the story, each one of them with a deep story and deep relationships. Apart from both being produced by Bones Studio, Eureka Seven is less action packed than FMA, but tells alot more about all of the characters. There\'s 2 different relationships to be honest. Two brothers fighting for the sake of each other (in FMA) and a boy and a girl doing everything they can to stay together, as they discover the truth about themselves. So, both stories keeps you watching and interested, and both have similiar and a nice flow when it comes to animation, though Eureka Seven is a bit more inovative in that way. That\'s pretty much all of it, watch both, you\'ll love them all the way to the end.

Both of these shows are quite different and similar at the same time. While FMA is a fantasy, Eureka Seven is a sci-fi that focuses more on romance. However, they both have a similar sense of humour and similar protagonists. Both feature a child with his share of family problems who goes out into the world. Ultimately on quests to protect those they love while finding out that the world is much crueller than they thought. I did like Fullmetal alchemist more and thought it was a bit more coherent in the story line and featured more adult themes.

Both shows feature a ragtag gang of heroes who go up against an evil empire in order to save the world.  They also feature a young girl with mysterious powers who may very well be the key to their salvation.  Also, the mecha combat is identical except that in Code Geass, they can't fly.  But everything as far as movement and how they look and how they fight is just about identical.  Code Geass can be a bit more violent and mean-spirited at times while Eureka can be more romantic.

Besides featuring the same opening theme artist and being mecha anime, these two have a very different approach to the mecha scene. They are great in giving the viewer enough story and action while not drowning either in one side for too long. If you liked one, try out the other.

Eureka 7 has the same building stones as Code Geass: mecha action, a supernatural mysterious power and most importantly a good story to keep everything together. Combine that with a few nervosities in the characters that don't go to the extent of Evangelion-like breakdowns; and a very nice interaction between the characters.

This brings you to two anime that differ completely in plot, powers and even mecha style; yet manage to leave a similar feeling of success and satisfaction.

Both these anime have very interesting lead male characters. In Eureka Seven Renton Thurston is compelled to continue fighting for the ones that he loves (mainly a non-human girl named Eureka). Last Exile and Eureka Seven are very similar in many aspects. Each series revolves around a young boy who has developed a love for machines, be it a Vanship, a trapar board, or an ancient mecha. Last Exile is an amazing anime that features some of the same great animation, character development, and music as Eureka 7. The characters of both anime successfully go through transformations to become better people, which serves in making them more real to the audience. You are left loving the music of Eureka 7 and begging for more, where in Last Exile, the music is well placed and inspiring. Both series include amazing scenery and creativity on the part of the authors.

Eureka Seven and Last Exile both involve a lot of military air combat and flying ships in the middle of an intense war. Both anime have very appealing character designs, beautiful animation, and a wide variety of characters to attach to. Renton and Eureka from Eureka Seven best resemble Claus and Lavie from Last Exile--they are an unusually skilled team who are all about uniting the world, yet they are just kids. Holland, the leader of the Eureka 7 crew, best resembles Alex Rowe, the leader of the Last Exile crew. If you watch the english dub, they even have the same voice actor!

tktktk tktktk says...

Both are excellent series with a focus on flight, and involve the main character(s) joining a rogue aircraft with a brooding leader and a likeable crew. In Eureka Seven the technology is more futuristic, while in Last Exile it's a steampunk-influenced combination of old and new.

DragoonAdept DragoonAdept says...

The character development is amazing in both series'. I felt as if Tatiana later on in Last Exile was a direct resemblance to Eureka, while Claus also looks and acts similarly to Renton, too. Emotions are crazy among characters revolving around Claus and Renton and there is a TON of military combat in the skies, ship-to-ship battles, and baffling story developments that keep you guessing.

Each of the main characters are searching for themselves and the resolve to come to terms with their families history, which is also tightly intertwined within each plot and this also pushes them forward giving them a reason to move forward.

Is it possible for Claus or Renton to live up to, or perhaps, surpass their fathers?

Though differing in technological standpoints, Eureka Seven and Last Exile are a good fit for each other. Whether it be Renton and his passion for lifting or Claus and his Vanship fervor, both series' main protagonists end up on a rogue craft seemingly designed to play right into their loves. But all is not well in the skies, and the vibrant crew as their companions aim to make right the wrongs of the world.

Both of these anime involve a young man wanting nothing more than to fly in the sky (either with a van ship or riding the trapar waves). He ends up fighting against a government that has little concern for its people, on an airship piloted by a group of skilled individuals. The young man quickly becomes one of the more skilled pilots of the group, showing that he follows in his father's footsteps. At the same time, a young girl is introduced as a catalyst.

Both Last Exile and Eureka Seven have this theme, where a young boy leaves home and joins a (flying) military ship. In both cases adjusting to the new environment is not easy. Because of this theme those two anime feel very alike. Of course, there might have been some other reasons for that as well, like the fact that some characters are somewhat similar. Anyway this recommendation is based on that feel. If you thought that previously mentioned theme is interesting in one of those two anime, then you probably should check the other as well. Story wise those two anime do differ, but I think its more interesting that way.

P.S. For some reason both of those shows feature some Polish themes. Although there not that many of those themes and they are not important story wise, it's certainly worth mentioning.

It has similart themes (i.e. two main characters on a journey) but eureka Seven is much better.

DARLING in the FRANXX

DARLING in the FRANXX

Set in the distant future, the land is ruined and humanity establishes the mobile fort city Plantation. Pilots produced inside Plantation live in Mistilteinn, also know as the "birdcage." Children live there knowing nothing of the outside world or the freedom of the sky. Their lives consist of battling to carry out missions. Their enemies are mysterious giant lifeforms known as Kyouryuu, and the children pilot robots called Franxx to face off against them. For the children, riding the Franxx proves their existence. A boy named Hiro is called Code:016, and he was once known as a prodigy. However, he has fallen behind, and his existence seems unnecessary. Not piloting a Franxx is the same as ceasing to exist. One day, a mysterious girl known as "Zero Two" appears before him. Two horns grow out of her head.

Both eureka seven and FranXX have mechs, sure. But they also have a weird alien-ish girl, weird crazy pink haired girls, and generic boy protagonist who pilot said mechs and develop relationships with said girls.

Coming of age story focused around love of something not entirly human with mechas. Very similar feels.

The story in some ways is very similar to Eureka Seven but differs enough to still be original in many ways. Most enjoyable story.

Cranmango Cranmango says...

Giant robots, world building and candy color haired girls are in both of these. I think Eureka seven is just a smidge better at keeping the plot together but it’s also twice as long.

NerdConsultant NerdConsultant says...

Darling in the Franxx borrows quite a lot from Eureka Seven with similar themes and story structure and someof Franxx shots look like they were taken from Eureka Seven. if you like Eureka Sevenyou should get enjoyment from Franxx and fans of Franxx really owe it to themselves to see Eureka Seven and if you didn't think Franxx was that good Eureka Seven is a better version of a simialr story

The ending of both series hit me both in the same emotional way I can never NOT think about the animes. The feelings I get from both ephemeral and it's unreal that I'm so affected by the how they both ended.

It was a beautiful experience.

I love the character development and the interactions because you have to understand characters' motivations and their upbringing (also how young and inexperienced the characters are) in order to fully immerse yourself within the anime. If you do that, I promise you the story and character drive pushes you for the characters to succeed will bring about an involuntary desire to somehow be connected with the story and plot these characters take on.

In every single way, Darling in the FRANXX felt like a spiritual successor to Eureka Seven, capturing both an animation style & style of storytelling that hasn't really been repeated since. I can't think of any better match than these two.

sonicstorm1114 sonicstorm1114 says...

I recall watching one of the early episodes of Darling in the FranXX and thinking to myself that it "gave me a similar vibe" to Eureka Seven. These two shows are extremely similar when it comes to their respective premises. For example, both shows are mecha anime that place a major focus on the romance between a human boy and a girl who is (at least partially) alien/non-human.

However, the main female leads are opposites in personality: Eureka is very stoic and subdued and her relationship with Renton takes some time to develop into romance whereas Zero Two displays her emotions openly and is a lot more teasing and forward with Hiro from the start.

If you liked either Darling in the FranXX or Eureka Seven, I recommend giving the other a shot if you haven't already.

Air Gear

Air Gear

What if roller skates had high power engines that enabled the skaters to do stunning new tricks that defy gravity? What if you saw a beautiful girl effortlessly glide through the air with them? To Ikki, this is reason enough to secretly borrow a pair of Air Treck skates, and step into an underground world filled with gang fights and strange customs. Enamored with high-flying stunts and the flirtatious Simca, Ikki forms an Air Treck gang of his own and starts a life of fighting rival gangs and flying over the rooftops, chasing the girl always one kick ahead of him.

Air Gear and Eureka Seven are two shows that I think anyone can like. The both have a love story that you can get wrapped up in as well as character depth and development. In Air Gear it the development is on the main character and his interactions with the ones closets to him and the ones that try to protect him. In Eureka Seven the development of the character comes to life when the world is at war and change is needed to get through the tough times. Both serious have action and sometimes comedy while Air Gear has more of the latter. The emotions that the characters express and feel will hit you the viewer sometimes when you don't even expect it and other times you will. One thing that they both share in common is their ideas on personal transport and their methods. One has you flying around on personal air boards and the other on your own motor powered skates. If you like high flying adventures, love, depth to your characters and a little laughter then watch either one of these shows. There is a small warning as some episodes of Air Gear contain swearing and covered nudity.

Both shows deal with tools that are used in order to allow humans to fly. Groups form; one "prodigal" child comes from nowhere and sweeps the world by storm.

Both Air Gear and Eureka Seven focus on a young boy who is incredibly determined to succeed. In Air Gear's case, it's Ikki, a young boy who just wants to be amazing at Air Trek and in the case of Eureka Seven it's Renton, a boy who has fun by lifting. Both of the series are full of action and maybe a few crushes. They both hae great art styles and are highly recommended.

BrandonHeat BrandonHeat says...

Both anime put a fantasy spin on extreme sports, Air Gear is to Roller blades and E7 is to Surfing. Thats the obvious comparison. I also think the the story builds in a similar way with the main characters wanting to live life in there own way. both are very fun anime that makes you really root for the main characters and their passion. If you liked one, you would definitely like the other.

kooltilldend kooltilldend says...

Both stories are about a young boy who is a little naive and is sometimes easily fooled by others...he is however, very very good at what he does best and also has (eventually) a group of friends that truly care for him (and vice versa)...I personally found both series very entertaining, with some tremendous action scenes along with some really laugh-out-loud moments

Although, Air Gear does not have a "proper" ending (the story continues in the manga), Eureka Seven has a very fitting ending (although some may suggest the story could've been a little shorter - it was fine for me though)

Overall, however, there's much to like about both series and despite the obvious differences (story, Air Gear has more ecchi, etc), I personally enjoyed both series and open-heartedly recommend them both.

hamletsmage hamletsmage says...

Both Air Gear and Eureka Seven have fairly young protagonists that learn to use equipment that allows them to fly. For Eureka Seven, that's an advanced form of skateboard. For Air Gear, that's an advanced form of roller blades. Each anime has a wide range of characters with varying motives. Among these characters are the protagonist's families, which hold secrets tied to the plotline. If you like a little action, a little drama, and some comedy, you'll like either anime.

Macross Frontier

Macross Frontier

After being threatened by extinction at the hands of alien invaders called the Zentradi, humanity undertook the task of guaranteeing itself a future by launching fleets of colony ships into space. On Macross Frontier, one such fleet, high school student Saotome Alto's life is changed forever: the fleet is suddenly attacked by unidentified creatures while he is performing aerial stunts for a concert by the wildly popular idol Sheryl. Alto quickly finds himself in the cockpit of a new-model fighter struggling to protect Ranka Lee, a young girl he met only hours earlier, from the invaders' swath of destruction. Noting his performance during this incident, the S.M.S. Skull Squadron private military company invites Alto to join their organization, where he continues protecting his friends and Macross Frontier.

Transforming mecha piloted by humans against a race unknown? If you're watching one then give the other a try.

Both mecha anime put a small group of elites against a force which normal figters can't stand up against.

Finally, the two have a similar, but not identical, art style, despite being made by different studios.

animegal33 animegal33 says...

These are two very similar series. They both are focused around mecha. The two have a very similar feel. The few diffences that I can find in them are that Eureka Seven has romance, Eureka Seven is on Earth while Macross Frontier is in space, and with Eureka Seven, the characters are facing other humans. If you liked one, you should definately try the other.

DragoonAdept DragoonAdept says...

Both Eureka Seven and Macross Frontier deal with romance. Both deal with multiple relationships on a more subtle level, for example: Talho and Holland, Moondoggie and Gidget in E7 and Klan and Michel and the ship Captain and a crew member in Macross F. Both are Mecha but Macross F is more heavy in the mecha than E7.

Then the main characters are of course afraid to admit their feelings in both series' until later on. Though the roles are switched in Macross F where Ranka and Sheryl realise their love for Alto before he does and in E7 Renton longs for Eureka from the very beginning.

Both series' deal with an alien species that are unable to understand the actions of humanity and attempt to communicate in the only way they know how, often resulting in harm on both sides.

Szwagier Szwagier says...

The connection is hard to explain without spoiling much... For starters obviously both have some unique mechas, and both focus not only on fights but also on romance. But the most important similarity is the mystery behind Scub Coral in Euereka 7 and behind Vajra in Macross Frontier. I can't really say more than they are really similar ideas, cuz I would spoil all the fun you'd have from watching them. Either way defienietly if you like one of them you'll like both.

Two very different anime styles but still alike in so many ways. The largest similarity for these two anime is there near-perfect production.  From the visuals to the soundtracks, both were masterfully excuted at the times they were aired.  People's taste for the story may vary from person to person(I loved both), but anybody arguing that the look and sound of these works of art are dead inside.  Also, both center a love story at the center of some very serious socio-economic crises - mainly the few remaining humans left alive in the universe facing impending doom from alien threats.

Look, as a picky critic, I give very, VERY few "10/10" ratings to anime, but both of these earned them.  Like all anime, these may not be for everyone, but if you liked one, it's safe to say you might like the other.

Dragonaut: The Resonance

Dragonaut: The Resonance

Several years ago, Jin Kamishina's family was killed in what appeared to have been a space shuttle accident. A few years later he is suddenly attacked by a strange monster, but is saved by a strange girl named Toa who possesses superhuman strength and can transform into a dragon. Jin finds out that the accident was not due to an error by his father, the pilot, but rather as a result of a collision with an object from outer space – the asteroid Thanatos, the source of destructive dragons appearing on Earth. As they make new friends and enemies, Jin and Toa now find themselves becoming increasingly entangled in the mysteries of the ISDA – a shadowy organization working to protect humanity – and the dragons themselves...

In both Eureka Seven and Dragonaut, the main male and female character are a little akward when it comes to relationships. In Eureka Seven, Eureka is a little shy and therefore does not "know" how to express her feelings for Renton. Renton is just, well, a klutz and just can't say what he wants to say. In Dragonaut, Toa is more concerned about not getting Jin involved rather than expressing her true feelings. Jin is so worried about being lonely that he realizes he likes Toa after she has left him.

Wander Wander says...

Both series have vibrant colors and a compelling relationship held by the two main protagonists.  Jin and Renton are almost identical in the personality department.  The female leads in each series have mysterious pasts which unravel as the series progresses as well.  Both series involve plenty of space flight and delve into serious tones, especially on the idea of alienation and the pitfalls of humanity.

The son of a famous father has to step out of the shadows to deal with an extraterrestrial threat. At his side is a beautiful, but mysterious girl whom he grows to love. With secret, shady organizations, massive battles, and some interesting forms of transportation, these two anime are very similar. Not to mention, Renton and Jin share the same haircut.

It took me a while to realise how much these 2 animes have in common. Without any spoilers, the animes both have mankind fighting a war that the populace is unaware of. The hero's father was involved with the heroine in some way. The heroines are both strange individuals with some secrets of thier own.
